Love this and the other Scharwenka piano concertos. Thanks for posting! IMO, Ms.Tanyel is more careful with the pedal than in the other recording of this piece.

This is a Viola Audition standard. Wolfram had a fair amount to do with Australia. I remember he was working at a National Music Camp in Australia I think it was about 1987. He was a viola hero of mine when I was studying Viola at the Victorian College of the Arts. I went to hear his concerts with the MSO and later with a group of soloists from the Berlin Philharmonic playing at the Melbourne Concert Hall. He married an Australian woman I believe. I also studied Viola with one of his students Jane Hazelwood.

All of Ries' concertos (and also the symphonies and al the other works of him) are well worth listening to. It is a great pity that they are almost never heard in concert and that most pianists of our time ignore these marvellous concertos. They would be a huge enrichment to concerto programmes. Thank you so much for posting this.

Sterkl lacks the vicissitude of a Concerto say of the make of Boulogne. It is in the baroque tradition of course. Does not impress much.

A 13 ans, on n'a pas beaucoup de soucis (en principe). Ce concerto, c'est la joie de vivre. Surtout ce fantastique troisième mouvement, que je ne me lasse pas d'écouter!

Extraordinary. Excellently performed. Pleyel was able to write such a - brilliant symphony- at the age of 21 because he first learned the craft from Jana Křtitele Vaňhala. J.Hayd himself owes a lot to Vanhal (it keeps getting obscured). The influence of Christoph Willibald Gluck is also heard.

I heard the third movement of this for the first time today, on WETA, my local classical music station. I was surprised by the high notes throughout the movement, especially the A7s.

Strange, why it's titled like 'C Minor'? Only introduction in C minor, rest of mov 1, mov 3, mov 4 in C major

Ries ist als Komponist völlig zu unrecht in Vergessenheit geraten. Seine Sinfonien und Konzerte aber auch seine Kammermusik müssten wieder viel häufiger auf den Programmen zu finden sein. Wie schade, dass z.B. gerade dieses Konzert von den namenhaften Pianisten ignoriert wird. Was für ein grossartiges Konzert mit so vielen wunderbaren und lichten Passagen.

Non c'è dubbio e neanche inganno sul fatto che questa musica tenga lontano ogni affanno.Evviva la gaiezza e la meraviglia che ci danno gioia vera senza invidia,fu così no di certo la corte fu figlia di mille correnti, guerre,lutti,insidie . Ora finalmente si può godere di questa senza le diatribe di cortigiani e cortegiane ,le ossessioni strane di duchi marchesi re e imperatori figlie di vizi bassezze ed altre tristi negligenze
