RC has come so far in 4 years. I just picked up the Traxxas BEC kit for my TRX4. Glad I watched this video. I still enjoy your videos to this day. Cheers
I should've seen this before I stuck in a new servo. I blew up the xl5-hv ESC and had a runaway with the TRX6. Good news is that the TRX6 now has a QR pro 2300 kv and it transforms this rig entirely.
So I installed a 20kg steering servo on my trx4 sport without the bec and had no issues. Then I installed the traxxas bec and now I’m having glitching issues where throttle and steering independently and or simultaneously cut out. It was like there was transmitter interference, I got up to retrieve the truck and each time it would carry on like no big deal. From 5ft away I’d turn the wheels one direction, let off, and the wheels would stay pointing that direction then correct themselves 5 seconds later and go back to normal. When it’s working correctly, it doesn’t seem that much better than the factory steering servo. It’s better but idk if it’s worth the inconsistent headache. BEC to channel 2, plugged that to BEC, then the 2 prong over to the ESC. Seems pretty cut and dry, idk how I could mess it up if I did 🤷🏼♂️
So I’m kinda confused as to weather i should get a bec. I have a hobby wing 1080 esc and last week i got a new servo cause mine crapped the bed and the new servo is acting kinda weird. Sometimes when i drive it and im doing something at full turn the servo won’t always go back to center it’s almost like it’s getting stuck but as soon as i go forward or backward it goes back to normal and starts working again. When it’s locked up if i just try to turn it on the controller it won’t till i drive forward or backward alittle. It’s a brushless power hobby servo i believe the model is the 345 model. I’m also wondering if the servo itself might be faulty.
Voltage is only a small part of the game. If you cannot provide the proper current, then it doesn't matter if you can supply 6.2V or 16V from your ESC.
Just got into the hobby and I was pleasantly surprised with how detailed everything is. Thanks for making these videos (and staying honest) because it is a lot to learn but these help a ton! Just a question, do I need to get a BEC if I upgraded all of my servos in my Traxxs4 Defender? I have the 2255 steering servo and getting the Injora 25T shift servos and was thinking I might only need the esc but not sure. Thanks again!
Fifty bucks is not unfortunate when you don’t want a pc in your life anymore. I’m 65, retired and I have no reason to use a pc. An iPad maybe. But the Castle Link app works beautifully with my Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster BR Mini XL in my 10+ pound first gen SCX10 Trail Honcho with 3 servos (2 steering & 1 shifter). But then it’s powered by my Reedy Zappers 8200 mah 115C silicone graphene LiPo HV drag pack. That might be the reason and not the bec which is the badass waterproof one with an aluminum case. Still prehistoric with the pc crap. And people have been complaining about the Axial SCX6’s weak servo. Get the esc programmer and bump up the voltage. I haven’t done it yet but I accept the servo’s power. And I actually accept the foams. Most of you haven’t given them a chance. And I will not remove my spare tire. I feel it’ll upset the balance. And one video shows the Trail Honcho without the spare and Proline tires and foams and it was struggling on the rocks. Mine doesn’t. I’ll leave it alone for now. Wear out the tires first…
So is the castle BEC capable of having a voltage for the receiver and different voltage for the servo? Or does the voltage for both need to be the same? So if my receiver takes 7.4v and my servo takes 6, I need an additional BEC to just power one.
Awesomely useful and informative channel you've created. Congrats and thank you. Videos like yours really help with expanding ones comfort zone by reducing the fear and uncertainty of learning while doing. 😁👍
HELLO Francis … I need a BEC with multiple different voltage outputs because I need to power 6v, 8v and 11v at the same time and still have a clean setup. I’m looking at the HOBBYWING 10A BEC with 6v/7.4v/8v “Adjustable” but it’s with a jumper… I’m waiting for replies on if you MUST use the jumper and choose only one voltage or if I can use the terminals individually to power 2 or 3 different accessories with different voltage values at the same time. Do you know more about that BEC? Can you recommend me a BEC that will do what I need? Thanks plz reply😎

So are there any esc that I can buy these days that will give the servo a lot more power? When I get a new esc will I have to change anything else out so it will work right? Sorry for all the questions but I am new to the crawler rc world and I just got a redcat gen 8 and the servo is trash on it lol but I really don’t want to have to try and wire up a bec cuz I don’t know how to. I have also heard that when people put stronger servos on the gen 8 it breaks something on the suspension so if any of you rc guys see this can you please help me out by answering these questions it would be much appreciated
Hey. I am thinking of getting the trx4 kit, the 1 thing that I don't understand I'd the Bec, the castle your reviewing in this video seems to complicated (needing IBM laptop ,or £50 dongle!!), the part at the end of this video is quite vague ,about the traxxas 2260 Bec, you said you were going to do a video on it but i can't find it ,hmm. Anyway can the 2260 replace the castle and is it less complicated?. Love your vids btw. I've learnt a lot ( apart from Bec lol)
Why do they call them battery eliminate circuit... It doesn't really eliminate the battery, it eliminates the esc. They should be called EEC. Esc eliminater circuit.
It replaces the ESC's built-in BEC but doesn't eliminate the ESC. You are essentially upgrading your BEC when you use an external BEC. Back in the day, you would need a seperate battery pack to power your electronics. just about all ESCs now have a BEC built-in, but are usually limited in their voltage.
Hi i have some problem with my trx4 blazer. May esc keeps on blinking green. I can control the servo but no throttle at all, what can i do? Thank you for answer
I had same problem do what I did search for that issue on RUclips watch a few videos try everything till u get it took me a week of trial and error and cursing till I finally got it to work and it’s fine now I was ready to give up and buy a new esc
Ok, this is confusing. So I have the trx sport and I have a v plow on it which has 2 20kg Amazon servos on it. And I want to swap the 2075x for a 20kg servo. I have the stock esc. I don’t know if I need a bec. Can you help? I’m basically powering 3 20kg servos. How should I hook up a bec?
It is not required. Your system will work but when the three servos are working and drawing power, they will stall and act like weaker servos. To get full output out of all your servos, you want to get that 10 amp BEC from Castle Hobbies. And run it at 7.4 volts. The stock traxxas bec is 1 amp.
RC Review ok, thank you for responding so fast. And how would you wire it in? I’m thinking of plugging the power end into the red cable that comes off the esc. Where do the rest go?
I purchased a 20kg steering servo like the one you installed in the Bronco in a previous video. I can't find any current draw info for this servo, Will I need a external BEC ? It says in the specs that it produces 20kg of torque at 6 volts.
Can you answer this question about my setup. My ESC is a spektrum 160Amp and has a default BEC set at 6.0v and can be programmed at 8.4v My servo is a Protek 370tbl. Does the 6v from the esc's bec get shared by my receiver? If so my servo would be getting less than 6v?
I have my wires crossed, your just on about this for the stock esc with the trx4. I have found esc's with built in 6,7.4v power. So this video is just for the stock esc yes?. If I am building the kit I could add a more powerful esc (like the hobbywing ,mamba) and completely do away with an external?. Sorry 20 questions
Yes, under 200 oz-in servos, stock ESC is ok. 200-400 oz/in servos, need up to 3amp BEC over 400 oz/in servos, 3- 10 amp BECs are best. An aftermarket ESC like a Hobbywing or Mamba has a 3amp BEC so those work well. If a BEC does not have enough power for a servo, the system is fine, and the servo just doesn't operate in its maximum power capacity.
It's not required but when you try to improve your steering with a more powerful servo, the servo needs a power source more than the ESC can provide. In this case, a BEC will feed the servo the power it needs. On some vehicles, if the servo is not getting enough power for a prolonged period, the whole ESC will shut down to protect itself. It can be turned back on.
Yes, it will be fine since the 400 oz is brushless and quite efficient with power. At the extreme limits, it will get hung up but will not brown out. Ideally you want a 5-10amp external BEC. but try it out first and see if you see any limitation with the 3amp BEC of the 1080
@@RCReviewChannel Thanks Francis. I will run it w/o a BEC and set hobbywing 1080 to 6v just to be safe. The traxxas servo already has 400oz so it's good as it. Only extra accessory I have is the traxxas light kit.
Hello, I enjoy and learn from your videos. My question is do you think you have to take into account amp draw from various servos? Say you put this tra2262 into various Traxxas vehicles and put various high torque servos like a Savox in. Do you just focus on correct voltage or do you think theres servos that can draw too much amperage for it. I'm trying to upgrade my E Revo and Summit trucks steering and wondering if I can use the 2262. Can you run 2 servos on 6v? Thanks
Yes, definitely. If different servos are drawing high loads, at the same time, that is an issue. The most common case is using a winch while steering. Otherwise, it's mostly a non-issue.
What model ESC's have adjustable BEC's, and why can't I find info on how to adjust it? I'm pretty sure my ESC is not adjustable. I have the stock ESC that comes in the 2019 V4 Kraton 6s (which is the BLX185). I've learned, that since I have an upgraded servo, i can send more power to it with the right ESC, or by purchasing and installing a BEC. My steering servo can handle 7.4v... and would like to take advantage of it, but the stock ESC only outputs 6v. Ideally I would just adjust the internal BEC in my ESC and away we go... but, I can find no where on how to do this... which leads me to think that my ESC just doesn't have an Adjustable internal BEC. Does anyone know which ESC's out there have adjustable internal BEC's? Im not oppose to buying a better ESC that has this adjustable BEC, but surprisingly I've yet find info how how exactly you adjust this, even if you have one. I looked up the specs on the Max6 and it says it can output both 6v and 7.4v... but how do you adjust it. Any help would be appreciated. Anyone know how much amperage the 4 double a batteries can put out? Asking for a friend with old nitro car....

They're all good since NIMH has ample power for a servo. The Castle $20 BEC will work well.
In the world of nitro the most use 1,5V x 4 = 6V.

Thank you. Yes, this info on BEC's is hard to find.
Why not just isolate the BEC and use dedicated battery?
No advantage to that as the existing lipo battery for the motor is an incredible power source available with any mah level.
A dedicated battery needs its own spot and has to be monitored and charged separately.
