- Worlds of Wonder had a few good hits. They were a toy company ahead of their time. With awesome toys like Laser Tag, and this one, the Teddy Ruxpin. A very cleverly made animatronic toy from 1984.

#TeddyRuxpin
Im 42 and miss him dearly thank you for posting it. Nice memories i still had my mom threw it away when i turn 18 and married
I look so forward to my Saturday morning Randi Rain just like I was a kid watching Saturday morning cartoons. Thank you for making me smile.
Thanks for the kind words. Glad you like them.
I can imagine a reality where "sick" toys search for help. "You must find the one called Randi, she is your only hope."
Van Halen 1984 would have been the ultimate test tape! 😆 great video!
Great video. I got a Teddy Ruxpin for Christmas and still have it. The battery compartment is messed up and sometimes he works and sometimes he doesn't. I use to play Van Halen and other cassettes in him. If you turn the volume up enough it will make his eyes and mouth move. Not to the words or music. But still move.
The music must hit the tones that operate it every once in awhile.
Now this brings me back! I had one when I was 7. Always wondered how it worked on the inside. Great video Ms. Rain. Thank you!
Teddy Ruxpin had the best facial expressions throughout this whole ordeal!
He's a trooper.
Who say what now
O
His blank stare as I try to make him care again...
The credit footage is quite interesting. Really neat video, will be using as a blueprint for a restoration project
The airplane reference 🤣🤣🤣 and don’t call me Shirley !!!
I can quote the entire movie.
You did however miss the reference to The Man With Two Brains... and the "cranial screw top method".
@@RandiRain just hope you don't have to take the drunk test.
Great job on the Teddy Rux restoration! I had always wanted to see what one of these looked like inside. As for the tape, I kind of figured that they were using one channel for the audio and the other to control the face movements. BTW, looking up the wiki it says the toy was released in 1985, but it is likely that they had the copyrights earlier, or manufacturer if your Teddy Rux was labeled otherwise. That being said, it would have been one of the earliest production models. So you were 15 when it came out? You and I are VERY close in age. Nice to know you are a Gen-X'er as well! Great stuff! Keep up with the great work. I always enjoy what you do...bringing back these toys of the past back to life.
From what I hear, the later ones only had one motor in the head, so this is surely an early one. Thanks for the kind words.
0:08 check the date again, copyright says "1984, 1985" meaning it came out in 1985. From what I researched, the prototype was first copyrighted in 1984, then pitched around to toy companies (hence why it was copyrighted before that so no company could easily copy it), then in 1985 an agreement was made to be manufactured by Worlds of Wonder. That's why it has two copyright years on it. They didn't release them in 1984, because no company had made them yet, late-1985 was his release not long before Christmas, which is why he was so hot that year, which carried over into 1986 again making him the best selling toy that holiday.
I already got my theorized answer where the term getting 86ed comes from and this is just another reason. It was a crazy year.
Thanks, I wanted to repair mine but had no idea how to get into the head.
Randi, I’ve not seen any of your other videos but this one makes it very evident that your great with your hands and smart to figure stuff out. I’m wondering if you could tell me what use were using in the video to connect those little power clips to the servo motor to test them? Also, how much did the repaired Teddy sell for on eBay. I have one and might try and fix it. Thanks again!
Honestly, I don't even remember and I would have to watch my own video again. If it was clips from a power supply, I can tell you those were junk and have already broke and I chunked them. If it was something else, I don't know remember. As for the sell price. I don't remember that either, but you should. I get people asking me to fix theirs all the time. If it's an easy fix, go for it, it would be worth it to sell.
Excellent work with the servos, by the way.
Thanks 👍
I hope you'll fix a Dancing Magogo in the future. I got one recently but it won't dance. if you ever get one to fix, I hope you'll record it to show how to fix it since I can't find any videos how to repair it online.
Nice job! I thought it was interesting the data stuff they have on the tape to control the movement. Very cool.
I figured it was more of tones. I've done it with DTMF tones.
Love love love your video! I was born in ‘86 and got one of these growing up! It stopped working many years ago but still have it in storage.
There is definitly no corrosion damage. So I am wondering if the belts need replacement. Where would I find these little belts 14:50 ? And also, what’s the devise 18:12 you use to test the mechanics?
Again! Thank you so much for your post!
Thank you... I'm sure the belts need to be replaced. You can find a bag of different sizes on ebay real cheap. The motors might not have turned in a long time and gummed up. You can clean them up, or squirt oil in them, turn manually until it goes. The device was just a power supply to turn it on. You can use batteries or whatever to test it.
lol I liked the "Airplane" reference ya made.... Shirley lol
But you didn't notice The Man With Two Brains reference with the "cranial screw top method".
@@RandiRain no....wow thats an oldie that I haven't seen in a while lol
A Nolan Bushnell project after unloading Atari to WB. Then Nolan done Chuck E. Cheese pizza outlets. Will see resemblance to robotic band members at those pizza shops to T-ruxpin. Thanks for sharing!
It's very smartly made.
I have 3 of these under my desk. 😂 (waiting for repair)
Grubby’s circuit board is made of Swiss cheese, so please do a video on him!
If I can find one affordable.
Now, if you put 1984 in Teddy R, you're in for some fun. That's what I did with my little brother's TR back in the day!
Nice job saving that teddy ruxpin
I wonder what you could make teddy do with a cassette adapter and some experimenting.
teddy and alphie2 were by buddies when i was a toddler, good old days.
teddy rub-skin 😂
pretty sure my sister had a teddy ruck-spin. I'm quite amazed by the complexity of the inner workings, very interesting how they modified the cassette for the carrier signal thing
For the 80s, this was way ahead of it's time. Many smart things about this thing.
I wish i had a teddy ruxpin but i was born in may 3.
9:30 Lol yep there are others that have repaired them, actually do think I recall that tab on the tape deck coming off. Me I go watch all the videos before I tackle stuff like this because I'm so afraid to break anything. Still I think your past toy experience prepared you well to find all the seams. :)
There are a few models, one with two motors and another with one that uses a transmission. I do think the Glo Worm sleeve design where you can pull the electronic guts out for cleaning was better, can't throw Ruxpin in the washer heh.
I'm new to your channel , how much would you charge to fix one of these ? I have one bad it only makes noises once in a while, and nothing is moving
Only if it's something I think I can get a video out of and I have time. I get people asking every day to fix something. I just don't have the time.
@RandiRain thanx for the quick response.
sweet video... 5 star... 8-) ... where did you get the bag of bands?...
ebay.... search "cassette belts".
Terrifying thumbnail for this video!
Better to click on I hope.
Never heard of a teddy ruckspen talking bear lol what a weird 80s toy kinda creepy ngl but cool how they created the inner workings
Hello randi! Where did you buy that rubber in teddy servo? Do you have link?
They're drive belts. You can get an assortment pack dirt cheap on ebay.
@@RandiRainthank you so much😊
You're amazing!!
Is the red and black device a multimeter?
Yes. Nothing special. Just one you can get on Amazon.
Thats s 3rd gen and I have a 3rd gen and I watched your video and you helped me fix it
Have you ever repaired the bigger robots from the 80s there are 4ft or more and box shaped ones and cylinder ones
Check out my channel.. I've don't the Omnibot 2000.
Hi Randi, i got a Scooter 2000 the other day that i intend on restoring, standby for the video
What is that? An electric scooter?
@@RandiRain check out the email i sent you :)
@@HomeRoboticsAustralia - Checked my emails. Didn't get anything.
@@RandiRain just re-sent it
You said you use to.build Hollywood props.
Have you ever have my props
With scale model puppets
That were ised along with the scale model puppets
In the minitures.
For example little space Helmets
Or Back packs or space related Weapons
I just scored a very very clean original for one dollar today. Even the battery compartment is super clean.
Those are always nice.
A classic close up trick hand made from locally sourced black walnut. A small wooded box, roughly two inches square, has a solid brass plate inside, and a slit in the top and bottom. The brass plate clearly blocks the slits, yet an American half dollar passes right through the box.
The Magic Coin Box comes with the brass plate and a real American half dollar.
See the video how they were made…Randi Rain...Will you make one of these pieces of art for me? I admire the amazing wonderful wand you made. What an amazing piece of art.
i just watched Pawn Stars, and a guy brought one in. the cassette player worked but no movement. they bought it for $40 I think.
My older brother put a metallica tape inside of my teddy ruxbin it kept blinking and moving its mouth super fast xD
Someone else said that too. Music must have some controlling tones in it.
@@RandiRain yea. Also a lot of us had mean older siblings xD
Wasn't one of the two tracks on the cassette just a line of data for movement control?
I want that BEAR!!!!
You really ought to prop it's torso up on a pillow to protect it's delicate snout, when servicing Teddy's electronics.
Wow I never seen a two servo teddy ruxpin I have a three servo teddy ruxpin his circuit board has 10 connectors
Are you in California. ?
Not since 2000.
No white vinegar to clean off rust and corroded battery terminals?
I find the CLR spray is way faster.
@@RandiRain ok I’ll have to try it. Didn’t know that worked as well.
How much to fix mine
I fixed one of these last year. The cassette player is pretty easy to replace the drive belt. But the belt to drive the mouth is nearly impossible to fix without destroying the head.
that cassette plate needs to be gently broken away...Or maybe not.
Not impossible. I did it. The sewing looks just as good as it did.
Mine only had one motor in the head, and the eyes would completely close every once in a while. I think mine was a later revision.
@@RandiRain My sewing skills weren't that good.
@@kewrock Interesting. It could be like the Billy Bass. Later version had fewer motors. So they must get the eye movements only when the mouth isn't going?
Wow! A Teddyectomy!
Good video thanks
Thank you
Nice job.
Thanks!
Ha I think that was the first and only cd you could buy back when the CD player came out. I remember buying it. Speaking of being too old back then, as a teenager, I also remember finagling all the little kids to give me their speak n spells and 2XL’s etc. so I could take ‘em apart and make them into things! 😆 one time a kids mom came over and asked for the speak n spell back. I had already torn it apart but I think I managed to get it mostly back together again 😂
That's funny...
So, pro tip,... Red Cayenne hot pepper sauce,.. such as Texas Pete,.. for example has the ideal acidity to neutralize the alkaline solution from leaky dry-cells, and aids in effectively inhibiting, removing the corrosive substance, subsequently with 99% alcohol solution later.
Oh come on... I have like 200 videos on here showing my abilities. I've handled corrosion many times in my 50 years of life. CLR has the exact same neutralizing power, and it's better than putting hot sauce on everything. Matter of fact, if you go through my videos, you will see where I did try it once because I do know it works. I also know that it stains as well, so don't get it on anything. So pro tip... Ditch the hot sauce and just use CLR, preferably the foam bathroom cleaner with it. It does the exact same thing.
@@RandiRain You’re right, and I rescind the manner in which I put that remark. I was catching up on some of your other projects too, and subscribed. You do really good work.
I wondered what was inside. Lol.
Pretty cool. But dang hard to get in there.
I went a little overboard. You don't have to cut that much.
@@RandiRain You can probably cut out the mechanical parts and make a scary toy. hehe
His top part of his mouth comes out
My Neice haf one thete are reburnishing tutorials on this beard
I won't be bidding on Creeper Rupskin lol
To each their own. I don't want it either. However, it's already gone and I did get three times what I paid for it.
@@RandiRain that's awesome because you certainly put in a good bit of work..
I've just found that toy creepy in a way..
@@RandiRain oh and thank you for the great video
I love teddy ruxpin but i wish i had him but i was not born in the 9d i was born in may 3 which by the way it's also my birthday that is may 3
I love them now... They're pretty impressive.
Thanks for speaking about Eddie Van Halen. Once again, Randi Rain is a wonder woman. She has common sense and knowledge. What a beautiful woman....
He was an awesome guitarist.
Ahh, the Cranial Screw-top method developed by esteemed brain surgeon, Dr. Michael Hfuhruhurr!
Do you fix other peoples Teddy’s ?
I do sometimes when I have the time, but that's rare. Right now there is a line of people wanting me to fix something of theirs.
@@RandiRain I would really appreciate if you would consider repairing our teddy ruxpin . I have an Autistic son who is very adamant we have his eyes and mouth repaired . But I am too afraid to attempt

Hi! I’m glad you were able to fix your bear. Maybe you could help me with mine. His bottom jaw😊 isn’t working. As he gets closer to the end of a tape, he drags and gurgles something terrible. Here is a link to one of my videos of him.

Did you repaur your toys when you were a child
Well some one please buy her a Maynetiv dish

He still jitters, There is still something wrong with the motors.
Nothing wrong with the motors. The footage I used wasn't started at the beginning of the tape, so it didn't go through the calibration settings that are at the front of the tapes. The audio didn't record right so I didn't get to use any of the footage from where it works correctly... But it does.
