I had one of these as a kid. I also had a Big Bird that did the exact same thing. I used to swap the tapes so that Ruxpin sounded like Big Bird and Big Bird sounded like Teddy.
Yes he is but hes actually not from 1986 hes actually from 1985 you can tell because he has a metal cassette player 1986 Teddy has a plastic cassette player
I remember this. I was around 5 or 6 in 1985/1986, when T.R. was brand new. There were other animatronic toys that came out around this time. A Fievel mouse version was released when the movie "An American Tail" was in theaters. I knew about the mechanisms needing repair, but I was more concerned of the tape needing to be baked. Just sitting there in an unopened box for 30+ years has that affect.
I've been repairing these off and on for a little over 18 years (just for fun). I got tired of them never working properly, so I took up refurbishing them. I've found that most that are barely used in the box or brand new in the box always need a new pinch roller and drive belt(s). The G1 models (with the metal plated tape deck 85-86) have 2 drive belts and then the G2 and G3 models (with the molded white plastic tape deck compartment 86-90) only have one belt to replace.
Are you by any chance related to Betty Jones who used to referbish 1980s toys? Her business seem to have stopped and I've been looking for years for someone to fix my 1986 talking Mother Goose by Worlds of Wonders because I'd liek to share her with my 20mth old cousin River. The tapes work in a regular tape machine but not in her.
I’ve got my original teddy Ruxpin from the 80’s. I’m looking for someone that does repairs on him and Mother Goose. Do you still do repairs on Teddy Ruxpin?
_"Hi, my name is Teddy Ruxpin. Back in 1985, I cost $85 dollars and very few parents could afford to buy me. The cassette tape & storybook that I required was sold separately, for an additional $20 dollars. You're all grown up now, but don't feel bad because your parents couldn't afford me. top mouth servo is seized. those servo motors are a PITA to work with. some have luck just gently massaging the mouth to get it to work, other cases require you to disassemble and remove the motor to apply more force to the rollers to get the motors turning. i think it has to do with carbon build up and loss of connection, which is why rotating the rollers clears the carbon and allows electrical flow to get working again. also no other cassette tapes will animate the bear. music tapes will play in the player but the Teddy Ruxpin tapes have a special pulse track the servos need to work. if you put a Teddy Ruxpin tape in a stereo player one speaker will play the audio track, other side will play the pulse track. that GRRRRRR noise is what the servos need
The 'grrrrr' sound goes away when panning the audio completely to one side (can't remember off the top of my head if it's left or right)...and I agree with what you said about it being the data controlling the servos...I wonder if I'll be able to use an audio cassette tape adapter and convert these to digital...an electronic signal is an electronic signal, right? (tbh, I really don't know the answer to that...we'll see)
I love Teddy Ruxpin, and I owns a 2nd generation one that only has the Lullabies cassette tape. I do not have the Airship tape, so don't ask me if I have it.
@@LoganTheGemmyCollectorare you joking bro just a non working teddy is like 30 dollars and I'd know because I collect teddy ruxpin, so a unopened teddy in such good condition Is worth way over 300 dollars maybe more!
It's so cool seeing Teddy Ruxpin again! I had one as a kid (mine had long red sleeves) and I loved him dearly, before he just vanished one day. Hasbro tried rebooting the toys back in... 2017 I believe? But the LCD eyes just don't have the same effect, it'd be awesome if they released Ruxpin as an animatronic, since the modern ones really lack that same charm the old ones have :(
He just needed a replacement pinch roller that's what the skipping nose was and the nose gently moved up and down anyways awesome you were able to sell him I would of brought him straight away he's gorgeous 😊
The buyer sent me a message and was able to get it working very well. He has a nice collection for his kids. It was tough to sell but I’m not as good at working with these older toys.
@@LoneStarRocker that's great he was able to get him working I have many of these Teddy ruxpins and yes they are difficult to repair I get all my help off RUclips vids being even by watching them sometimes I can't get the teddies up and running good job you got some money for him hope he sold at a good price for you 😊
He was just reseating the cassette and the back cassette door needed to fit just right to make it move properly. Eventually the cassette got seated and closed properly and it started to work. I’ll see if I can get the buyer to comment on the post. He was much better at fixing it then me.
5:59 DJ Teddy Ruxpin!!!! 😂

This is super cool!! Glad to see him moving- I wonder how he would’ve worked if he was opened in 86!
This is one of the coolest toys from the 80’s and It’s been packed away for many years. If would enjoy more videos, please subscribe. Thx!
pro tip: you can watch series at Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.

I would like to Hear all of that through an AI voice replication of Teddy himself

The reason why It was also Skippy was because your roller that goes on the tape was dented very common issue

The second variation doesn't move his top jaw like the first
😐👍
You're Right!
I would love to wake up on Christmas morning and see a 1985 teddy ruxpin under the tree I have the one that came out in 2017 and I love him so so much
0:23 Terry Austin????
They Made things to Last I Remember I wanted a Teddy Ruxpin...They we're so Popular then and then there was a Grandma Teddy Ruxpin also.
Where was a teddy ruxpin and his best friend grubby, your talking about teddy ruxpin’s mom
I remember reading these books when I was a child.
If you want to fix his upper jaw do you want to move it up and down because it’s frozen and you need to unstuck it
He was able to fix him once he got home. Super fun toy! 🧸
Awesome
I'm have a hope that I'll get a Teddy Ruxin on hoilday Christmas!
I has got
Very cool and creepy. I should get one of those for Christmas.
Batteries no good?
Damn! You realize how much that was worth by keeping it in its original box???
It’s not worth anything if it don’t work

Awwww!!! I'm glad he finally started working. :)
The skipping in it is because of a dented pinch roller
That tape deck door shut off mechanism is a chromic failure point eventually in all of them. Surprised to see it in a new old stock one though.
Wow i love teddy ruxpin!
Did this doll end up getting haunted ??
No, just bugged
When sold back in 1986 the tape would not be in the tape deck, it would be with the Airship book inside the box, not inside teddy.
True......
exactly, This is the 1985 version , They must have read the date wrong
@@MrShawnmead unless someone opened it and put the tape inside, claiming it was unopened.

Well at least it's better than smashing it like those stupid people in whats inside
Stuff dry rots. I was expecting the belt in the player went south.
Brilliant !!!
I always wanted one n never got it
To anyone who had a Teddy Ruxpin, have you ever hugged or slept with yours?
The 7 people who disliked was, Quellor, Tweeg, and the rest of the Ruxpin villains.
It's 1985 not 1986
Trying to get the eyes to work on the one I have. Always wanted one as a kid, bought one on eBay for my son. He is terrified of it. 🤷♀️
This made me laugh so hard🤣
I think the top jaw is broken
This servile motor is just seized, Is cutting the head open and massaging the motor for the upper jaw Should get it working
it’s old get the 2017 version
That one sucks
Buddy can you not? That is an ORIGINAL! And originals are usually better! A good example is the Furby.
