I wish I'd seen this video before I bought a Magic Mike II, I didn't realise they didn't have the voice box. I'm DYING to relive my childhood blasting "I AM THE ATOMIC POWERED ROBOT! PLEASE GIVE MY BEST WISHES TO EVERYBODY!"
" It's... It's aliv.. 'Cough' - 'Cough'... " (Mary Shelley's style) Ever... astonishing, this 'electro-mechanical' sound reproducing system ; and bravo for this refurbishing :)
Hi Randi. AMAZING job getting that smoke machine fixed. I have the exact same problem. My Magic Mike stopped smoking. So I got on ebay the exact same wire you have there: Master of Clouds 36g Nichrome 80 wire, 100 ft. But I cannot get it to glow at 3v like you did. I can get it to work great at 5v, but we know that the robot operates on 2 batteries. I've tried making all kinds of filaments: longer, shorter, more tightly wound, less tightly wound, etc. And at 3 volts it just barely emits some little smoke, with no glowing whatsoever. Any suggestions?
@@RandiRain It worked GREAT!! I used a one-inch long section of nichrome wire to make the filament, and then soldered 2 pieces of wrapping wire to its ends and then connected those to the cables from the power source. It glows really nice and produces quite a bit of smoke, even with used batteries. When I opened the smoke box I didn't get a clean split like you did, it was quite a mess actually. Putting it back together, the two halves were so uneven that they didn't line up and it had lots and lots of gaps at the edges where smoke leaked through. So I sealed all the edges with acrylic plastic putty (used for building plastic model kits). I hope that the wicks don't burn out, because it would be a real pain to open and close that thing again. Long before I discovered your channel last year, I used to repair and restore (and upgrade with new features!!) my old toys from my childhood. Robots, remote control cars, and other battery operated toys. So I truly appreciate what you do. All the time and effort it takes, and the frustrations too!! Great job you do. I truly enjoy your videos.
i remember when i was a kid i wanted to know what made my sister's ride-on jumper horse make sounds. it had a little saddle pack on it and inside was that record player making horse noises! neat!!
Hi Randi. Hope things are getting better over there with the power and water and what not. Thank god 2020 is over right? Q. What should I look for to find these electronic versions of these playback devices? Might be fun for in a music box or some other project.
@@RandiRain Think I already found it; soundchip-module. Holds 4 min of audio. Comes with buttons or switches, speaker and batteries so even I should be able to make it work.
You are amazing. I found the gold robot and it is in good working order, no broken parts but is missing sticker on waist. Do you know where I can get the atomic one?
We loved seeing all of your talents on display. I just bought the gold version of this Atomic Robot. It’s complete and works great, just missing the atomic sticker on the waist. Do you have a sticker to sell?
Randy, thought you might enjoy seeing the first electronic programable robot toy from 1956. Called Z-Man the Brain. you can find it on youtube or my channel if you like.
Impressive, you just changed an annoying baby crying machine into a cool smoking-hot (literally) destroyer Robot! It's like turning the Penelope Pitstop car into K.I.T.T.'s
I have the old original silver one, I think 1979 or 1980ish. It doesn't turn on , I have it listed on market place for 100 dollars. Mine hasn't been opened yet, I've been watching your videos and I don't want to try and repair it. Looks difficult
Where can I get a set of these wheels really fast before Christmas? I have a little boy (3 years old), expecting a toy robot on Christmas morning. I got the robot working but the wheels are all chewed up 😞
I had the Tomy atomic black and gold 2002 robot in 82 or so, haven't seen one in decades, still a cool toy, shocked it actually had a mini record inside, had no idea until right now. Gonna try and hunt one down now that I know the name, awesome videos btw.
No way, i had a laughing bag when i was a kid, had forgot all about that. I bet you could use some vape juice on the smoke generator, nicotine free of course.
Amazing!!! Hahah actually the record of the baby doll is if I remember correctly double sided or it had an equally disturbing laugh along with the creepy cry hahahahha, story time now!! Do you happen to know the "magnatron" or "Toby" robots? My actual all time favourite style of robot, they are the exact thing as magic Mike 2s with the addition of an swinging arm that goes up and fires a weapon they have a record player playing the exact sayings of magic Mike!! They were really popular here the same time magic Mike was out and I saved really hard to get one! When I finally did me and my dad were super excited with the smoking feature... Long story short we ended up frying the little guy with putting in so much oil to make him smoke a lot.. Hahahh he still has oil spots from back then! I will send you a picture 🤣😂🤣😂
Saw One like these for cheap and it's complete for sale but if it's works i don't know - want to buy a few more Laserbot / Saturn / Powerbot there are a few very Nice crazy colors that i want.
@@RandiRain me too i want the same ones i have checked eBay most of them doesn't work or parts missing but there are a few nicer but expensive because shipping got way high now One of these GOES for 100€ in good condition, Dixie? I don't know these i think, i have a few battery operated japanese made robots from Metal House and some Horikawas and others

I guess nowadays there would probably an outcry of safety concerns if you tried putting a smoke generator into a toy for childresn. Oh well, different times...
@@RandiRain Yes, I remember my grandfather had one in one of his model locomotives, I found it fascinating at the time. But that is more of a toy for adults than a robot that would be running around in a kid's bedroom, possibly without supervision. Since the recent rise of vaping devices people have also used those as smoke generators for props / models, but they are less subtle than the small oil ones.
Hi, i dont know how excactly i arrived here, but, you're really amazing, i has that toy when i was 6 years, it was the best toy i had ever, a few times i could put the oil to generate the smoke, thats incredible. i rembenber when i put new batteries the robot voice was different, when i put low batteris the voice was frigtened hehe, i love u.
I do sometimes, but I don't always have time. I can tell you next Saturday's video will be about a couple of Tommy Atomics, which is the same robot, and they will be on ebay.
Thankyou for this. Really interesting to see how the robot worked. I am amazed that there was a tiny record player in there, I would have never believed until I saw it!

Thank you very much.
I had one of those as a kid in the 80s with the smoking mouth.. I loved the smell of that smoke, like the smell of model train smoke..
great video as usual but that crying baby sound was so disturbing lol
Imagine hearing it while walking in the woods.

Shorter section of wire. Your filament is too long.

Atomic Robots should not "send best wishes to everybody!". Atomic Robots should rain fiery death on their enemies!
But these are Tommy Atomic... Shouldn't they be deaf, dumb, and blind?

How funny.
Me and my brother had two of the black Magic Mike's when we were kids! I don't remember if they were a 1 or 2 but I definitely remember the smoke!
Now I want to see a baby doll with a robot record :D
Oh, I thought about it.
I wish you could make your own records with custom sounds, like new robot sounds or one that can say “Randi’s Robot Garage!!”
Not sure how.
Next step: transform a baby and make it play laser noises and create smoke
What kind of oil do you use for the smoke and where is it put in the Robot?
3 in 1 Oil, and it goes in the top of the head.
Some of these records have 2 sides of tracks. You can flip them over to play another song/dialogues.
I'll check to see.
Should have your use Voice
Instead for the little Record
Thanks for the vid. Just fixed one up!🎉

Hi, very nice channel! I bought an Tommy in the Netherlands and want to make a nice project of it. Can you tell me where I can get new stickers ?
Nice repair job.iam trying to fix the one I have is think iam missing something on the motor that turns the record
There's no pulley on the motor. It goes straight to the shaft.
