I bought a box of that about 10 years ago (two in fact because they are so bloody small) to make a topping for a home made chili. Full of bloody weevils. Scratch for the win. I made a cheesy home made mashed spud topping instead.
@@thaisstone5192That’s not normal. It’s probably the store that you bought it from. I’ve never made homemade cornbread from scratch. I was brought up in southern New England but willing to give it a try. I’m not a food snob
For well over a year now I've been making cornbread to go with my morning coffee using a large six-slot muffin tin with the standard Jiffy Cornbread mix. I began adding one to two tablespoons of melted butter to the regular recipe and they come out wonderfully delicious! I recommend this addition strongly.
Was hoping Jiffy brand would be in this line up . BUT #1 is great. Grew up on this brand. Learned to love corn bread on this brand and so glad my parents used this brand all the time.
The northern cornbreads, like those in Maine, are sweet with an almost a pound cake consistency. While southern cornbread in has a stronger corn taste with a courser texture.
As a baker, my go-to is Jiffy. And has been, for 42 years. For cornbread, muffins, blueberry muffins, whatever. $12.00 for a box mix?!? And an inferior one?!? That offends my practical sense of food costs. I can make it from scratch, for 1/4th of that. I am not lazy. But Americans with money are, with more money than brains
Best cornbread ever……..box of famous Dave’s add no liquid but just a can of creamed corn and mix up batter …….take cast iron fry pan, melt one stick of butter follow cooking temps and time on the package….this unbelievable
Actually, this is exactly why I will ONLY use Bob's Red Mill mix. It is ONLY the basics my great grandmother used to measure, in the same proportions (I consulted with them on line)! And it lends itself to impromptu variations that I love to do with what I have on hand that day, like chopping leftover (rare!) breakfast sausage, diced jalapeños, whatever my whim. It is as good as self-measured homemade in my book.
What's the secret ingredient to your cornbread?
Using Lard in your food is delicious, & perhaps surprisingly for some, it's particularly healthy. One of the best fats.
Love Jiffy’s cornbread mix. My favorite is the honey cornbread mix😊

Sounds like worth a try!

Not everyone grew up with the knowledge of southern cooking.
I use jiffy 2 boxes 1 can of cream corn 1/2 cup sugar delicious cornbread
Nothing beats my grandmother's homemade cornbread but Krusteaz's Honey Cornbread is a great 2nd best!

Jiffy is my go too... we also keep it on hand for corn casserole.
Love jiffy
I learned how to make good cornbread from my Granny. I follow her recipe to this day and it always delights. BTW I'm 65
I think jiffy cornbread is very substandard, so I don’t know what to think if it’s supposedly the best
"Like most foods, modern day cornbread comes from decades of trial and error." - Crystal Wilkinson.
With any cornbread mix that’s too dry and crumbles apart, just add one extra egg. That’s what I have done for years when using Jiffy Cornbread mix.
Why use a mix when every bag or box of yellow corn meal has a basic cornbread recipe on the back?
Lazy.
I use them on vacation. Mixes make more sense than buying everything needed to make the real thing.
You guys missed the best one. Duncan Hines Dolly Parton's Sweet Cornbread & Muffin Mix, 16 oz it’s 2.69 on Amazon.
I had it- it's decent, my favorite is Famous Dave's.....
Jiffy cornbread is the best. I use one cornbread and one white cake mix. And a can of creamed corn.. and its less them a buck a box..duh
WOW My favorite is #1.

If anyone tries this way they will never do it any other way again period
Do you add an egg?
Where do you put the butter after melting it? Or just leave it in the pan?
if you get your cornbread from a box .............Somewhere your life took a wrong turn ..............
Or your Grandmother never taught your Mom to cook/bake and your Mother never taught you to cook/bake. Everything we ate was boxed or canned.
😂

Jiffy is GMO. I don’t know which of the others stated are or not.
Jiffy is THE best all the way!
It's always homemade for this family
I never liked Jiffy, I like a sweeter cornbread, so I use Marie Calendars
Jiffy Cornbread mix tastes more like cake than cornbread.
Don't get the fat free cornbread mixes they suck. The bread doesn't rise. Better off making it from scratch or sticking with jiffy.
A true southern, or would never use a box cornbread mix.. they taste terrible
