I’ve made so many of them sweet and not sweet and this is the best! My first with jiffy and I fell in love. The only change I made was 2 eggs instead of 3. And no sugar…Otherwise all good to go. Absolutely love this cutie boxes I never thought I’d be making them, ever and to my bad, love it!👍
Unless the Jiffy mix box is labeled "non GMO," it is made with genetically modified corn, doused with the carcinogenic, neuropathic, health colon bacteria and skeletal normality destroying pesticide Glyphosate. To avoid those, substitute an "organic" cornmeal brand such as Bob's Red Mill. That said, thank you for your recipe.
I didn't have the buttermilk, but I used 2% and it came out awesome! Can't imagine how much better it is with buttermilk! The only thing i changed was I used 2 tablespoons of brown sugar instead of using all white sugar. I also did what another commenter suggested and briefly browned the bottom on the stove top before baking. Thanks so much for an excellent hack!
I LOVE cornbread so when I saw your video, I watched it several times. It is Sunday night before Thanksgiving and I have only to get real butter and Buttermilk - I have the rest. I will make this tomorrow since my daughter and her boys are coming Tuesday. Thank you so much for this cornbread recipe ! Happy Thanksgiving Mansa Queen!!!!
I like to put the butter in the skillet and put it in the oven as it’s preheating. Meanwhile, I mix the other ingredients. I also like to add a can of cream style corn and leave out, or cut way back on, any other liquid. Although, adding buttermilk sounds like a good idea! I might just have to try that. And if my hubby still wants his “corny” cornbread, I can always (and have!) use whole kernel corn!
My husband and I made this recipe for Thanksgiving and let me tell you it was THE best cornbread I've EVER had!! So moist, sweet and delicious. Definitely a keeper!
This is a delicious recipe i made it last year for thanksgiving I added jalapeños and Mexican corn! OMG DELICIOUS! thank you so much for this recipe. 🙏🏻♥️
One thing I learned to do is after the batter is completely mixed, let it sit for about 5 minutes to allow all the dry ingredients to fully hydrate before cooking.
OMG - that sounds SO good...........oh well, there goes that old adage of not eating anything after 6 pm if you don't want to gain weight! But you only live once, right???

Thank you, I looked up substitutions for buttermilk because we don’t have any. One article suggested thinning 3/4c sour cream with 1/4c water or a 3-1 ratio…uh no! I’ll be thinning it with the 1% milk we use. I’m going to make this tonight to go with the chili I made last night, I have the eggs sitting out to come to room temp now.

Was lying in bed, saw this jiffy video, got up and bought a 8in cast iron skillet, perfect for one box, and butter milk. I still use 2 eggs so it won't fall apart. Came out perfect Thanks❤
I recently discovered you can freeze buttermilk. Actually any milk. When defrosted it does not have a good consistency for drinking but works excellently for baking. This is great because if you make something with buttermilk you usually don’t use the whole carton
There is a powered buttermilk you can get. I use that all the time, since a whole container of buttermilk would go bad on me. The powered works just fine.
Defrost the milk in the refrigerator then heat it while stirring till very hot don’t boil then cool & refrigerate again, it will be good for anything. I can’t drink a whole gallon alone so I freeze most in smaller containers for later works great.
I've used Jiffy Cornbread mix for years. I usually add regular corn meal to it, more milk then it calls for and yes, bake it at 350 degrees. One time I added part of a can of creamed corn and that turned out good as well. I've also used it to make cornbread stuffing for the turkey. Since I live alone now I just make one box of it at a time so will have to adjust the rest of your ingredients to that. .
I have used a can of cream corn in place of one cup of milk in a corn bread recipe. It makes it much more moist plus you have an interesting texture from the creamed corn. I wonder if I could do that plus use the buttermilk or if it would make it too moist.
Try using sour cream instead of milk/buttermilk. Add melted butter to the batter. Melt the skillet butter until it sizzles, and pour the batter in as it's sizzling (eye off). Also, Instead of sugar, I add in honey after pouring it into the skillet, no need to stir just swirl evenly. I do this with Jiffy, Krusteaz, and even my mama's recipe 😉
Girl that looks so good love your laugh while making and explaining your thoughts of cooking it just subscribed to your channel it's the best soft moist looking I've seen since my mother's recipe please keep putting out great recipes 😊
When we make chilli, we usually have enough leftovers for two small servings (there are 3 of us). So, I pour the leftover chilli into a pan, then pour cornbread batter on top and bake it in the oven. Incredible, and a good use of leftovers!
Omg look at that beauty, you made the cornbread so well. I like how you used more eggs, you’re right buttermilk can be made by adding vinegar to the milk. The honey and butter glazing was dope. Nice sharing 👑💕
Hi. Looks super yummy... but have you aver added corn niblets? Sweet corn in cornbread. I just don't know if canned and drained. Or frozen and defrosted... can you help me?? Thanks and joyful cooking, Johanna
My "Nannie" (*Grandmother) taught me this method about 50 years ago. She'd have me mixing up everything in a bowl from the time I was able to stand up in her kitchen chair. She paired this hot, buttery cornbread🧈 with the most amazing Collard greens ever, telling me it would make my hair grow! (*But that I had to eat it ALL!) 😅 She'd have me mash up my cornbread in my greens and eat it with my fingers, saying, "It's 'SOOPA-GOOD'!" 🤗 At first I hated greens, but this buttermilk cornbread completely changed that! Now I can't have one without the other... scratch that... I can eat several slices of my Nannie's cornbread at ANY mealtime, with an extra dallop of meltING butter and sometimes some honey🍯! 😋 'Cuz it's 'SOOPA GOOD!!!' ** buttermilk, the melted butter before baking, and the cast iron skillet is key, and that golden brown crust is the BEST part!😉
I'm a corner person too when it comes to cornbread and cake. Milk and cornbread sounds good right about now. U made me want some after watching ur video. 😋😋
I was going to settle for black-eyed peas...but when you mentioned that lip-smacking DELICIOUSNESS...now I know I need to head over to the supermarket to get some andouille sausage, red beans & rice for tomorrow's supper. I always keep several boxes of Jiffy in stock...the kids love this recipe for BUTTERMILK HONEY CORNBREAD made in cast iron skillet "shaped" like ears of corn (specialty pan belonged to my Grandma...she passed it on to me). The andouille sausage, red beans & rice will go very well with this Buttermilk Honey cornbread recipe! :-D
Mansa, your voice and sweet giggles are infectious in a very heavenly way. I have the bread in the oven now, and when I have a piece later today I will be sure to think of you.
My mom uses the box directions with the addition of two heaping table spoons of sugar AND one cup of applesauce. Always comes out moist. They loved it at every restaurant she ever cooked at.
I use applesauce in place of the oil and reduce the eggs in brownies even cakes but it defies her logic, and added to baked beans in the oven thickens plus sweetens them too! 💕💯
@@sgt.kilrain6891 good luck. Let me know how it turned out for you. (grease the pan like crazy... and if you have any baking parchment paper (or tin foil in a pinch) cut it and put it into the bottom of the pan and then grease it too, cause it is easier to get out if only stuck to sides of pan. :D
@@sgt.kilrain6891 you can add vinegar to the milk to turn it into butter milk I'm not sure about the amount, it isn't much. Don't have a idea of what to do to turn your skillet into cast iron. 😃
I 💘 CRUST!! Corners (brownie & lasanga my fav); heels of bread ( BEST for toast ); tops too! (mac-n-cheese especially!!) sides and edges (of everything else!) LOL, THE MOMENT you said you were a "CRUST GIRL" I SUBBED!!!!😃💖
With leftover corn bread, my mom's tradition was to put a slice or two inside a glass of milk for breakfast. Oh, it really is so yummy. Great video, thanks.
We would eat that at my grandmas house when I wasa kid. A tall glass of buttermilk with cornbread in it. I guess I liked old people food, because the other kids wouldn't eat it, but I would!
The buttermilk hack is something I learned im high school when I worked in a bakery. The buttermilk makes the cornbread rise more! 😋 And you are certainly right about adjusting the oven temp because cast iron retains heat and more bakers need to know this!
Odd because for over 30 yrs I’ve used jiffy cornbread mix following the directions tho with 2 additions - I add sour cream to the batter and I heat up my iron skillet in the oven at 400f with a fair amount of bacon drippings - never over baked never too dark and it’s crazy tender and moist every time !
Tis' is true about the buttermilk! I use it when I make my cakes...especially my Southern Red Velvet cake and biscuits, too! Oh, how I love the "science" behind that BUTTERMILK! lol Thanks for letting us know about the cast iron skillet and how it retains heat... I will be sure to adjust the temperature accordingly. Thanks for sharing this tip! ;-D
TIP: Put about 1/3 cup (yes 1/3) of vegetable oil in the SKILLET 🍳 and heat in the oven until hot BEFORE you put the mixture in the skillet. Mixture will bubble and cook as soon as it hits the hot oil, then bake in the oven. Keep an eye on it as baking time changes a bit because of the heated oil. Sounds nutty but AMAZING!!! Makes a helluva difference! Thank you so very much for sharing this with us ❤
You can always go old school and fry bacon in the pan first then remove the bacon and add the batter. The bacon grease adds flavor and makes it not stick.
I made this cornbread the other night. It's the best cornbread I have ever tasted. My husband practically gives a three minute dissertation about how good it is every time we eat some! Thank you.
I just want to say “Thank You” for this Jiffy hack! I watched this video about a month back and finally utilized it for dinner tonight. This came out so amazing that my boyfriend scraped the plate. It taste homemade, sweet, and super moist, not grainy at all. This will be the only way I do my cornbread from here on out. I made 1 moderation: I didn’t have buttermilk and I don’t use whole milk often because it will just sit in my refrigerator and go bad. I did however have some evaporated milk, which I keep on hand for numerous things and it did not disappoint at all. I will buy some buttermilk and make it again and see if it makes a difference in taste but the way it came out made me beyond satisfied.
First time making corn bread and I am so glad this was the one I made. Everyone loved it, even the ones who claim they don't like cornbread. Well they loved this one. Thanks for the fantastic recipe.

It's 2024 and I just stumbled across this video. I can't wait to try this! I LOVE me some cornbread, but willing to bet I will never make it any other way after trying this. FYI...you hear just how much you love cooking and making a simple thing just a little bit better. Your secret ingredient is definately LOVE!
Yes, yes, yes! I recently purchased and old beat up undesirable square cast iron. Cleaned that baby up and made this cornbread! 😋 🙌 My husband couldn't stop talking about how good it was. It was!! Thanks for the recipe. God bless!
That looks so good 😍. I used to used Jiffy for years. When my children stopped eating pork I stopped buying it. I make it from scratch. I use equal parts flour and Yellow Head cornmeal. Jiffy now makes a vegetarian cornbread mix. Great video, I love cornbread and I like mine sweet and thick like cake also! 💜💜
I was able to cross two thing off my list with your video. First I got to finally bake something in my fabulous cast iron pot. Second I ate the best tasting cornbread I’ve ever had. Thank you. I will be making this cornbread on our next camping trip.
I'm a crust girl, too. Now my cornbread will taste better thanks to your recipe. You should have your own cooking show and yes, your laugh is uplifting. Bless you! 😘💜🙏
Just tried your recipe and it is delicious! This will be my only way of making cornbread going forward. I didn't have a cast iron skillet, so I used a professional grade 9" cake pan and got great results. Thank you!
My grandmother told me that there is NO substitute for a good quality cast iron skillet! And she was right. Try to find one that is in good shape at a flea market or garage sale. It will already be "seasoned". Just don't EVER wash it after use and let it air dry. It. Will. Rust!
This was game changer for me. I have been struggling with my cornbread for years and couldn't understand why. Thank you so much! It's on now!!! A big hit.
This recipe is the bomb. I've made it 4 times and once for Thanksgiving at a friend's house. Her husband swiped all the leftover cornbread and wouldn't let it go. It is seriously the best cornbread I've EVER had. Now I know why I never liked cornbread before. I did not have buttermilk, but I substituted sour cream cut with whole milk. I used the same amount the recipe called for.
You did what my grandmother called "doctor it up" hehe. 😄 This looks delicious. I Like your personality, style and delivery sis. 🥰 Subscribing to see more of your videos.
I just watched this video today after watching your stir fried shrimp and rice. Making the fried shrimp and rice for lunch Monday and plan on making the corn bread along with it❣Can't wait to make it and taste it, I'm sure I'll be just like you, I won't be able to stop eating it as long as there's some left in the house ❣😋😋😋
Adding a can or 2 of cream corn also makes it good and moist. I love Jiffy cornbread. I like rubbing a stick of butter on top as soon as it comes out of the oven!💝
U can purchase powdered buttermilk at wal mart I use it all the time, also 🌻 sunflower cornmeal has everything in it already always beautiful crust being from Selma, Ala. We don't use jiffy we are all natural, Heeey! God Bless! Sis. LILLIE Daniels.
Made my New Years. I didn’t have buttermilk but I remembered reading somewhere that you can add sour cream as a buttermilk sub in baking. I used about 3 big table spoons. It worked, still added that nice moisture and didn’t corrupt the sweetness. Thanks!!
Thank you for stopping by, God bless you and I appreciate you all❤️.

When we make chilli, we usually have enough leftovers for two small servings (there are 3 of us). So, I pour the leftover chilli into a pan, then pour cornbread batter on top and bake it in the oven. Incredible, and a good use of leftovers!
Next time if there's any left, crumple the leftover cornbread in a cereal bowl then pour buttermilk over it.
My father ate his cornbread with buttermilk regularly. He used huge sherbet glasses.
@@agresticumbra ... That is the way I've been eating it all of my life. Most people can't get past the buttermilk, lol..
I do it with Manwich, too.
What a GREAT idea!!!!

My dad, mom, and I all love this cornbread recipe. Not only is it light and sweet, but it is very easy to make! Thank you for sharing this recipe.
(*But that I had to eat it ALL!) 😅
She'd have me mash up my cornbread in my greens and eat it with my fingers, saying, "It's 'SOOPA-GOOD'!" 🤗
At first I hated greens, but this buttermilk cornbread completely changed that! Now I can't have one without the other... scratch that... I can eat several slices of my Nannie's cornbread at ANY mealtime, with an extra dallop of meltING butter and sometimes some honey🍯! 😋 'Cuz it's 'SOOPA GOOD!!!'
** buttermilk, the melted butter before baking, and the cast iron skillet is key, and that golden brown crust is the BEST part!😉
I'm a corner person too when it comes to cornbread and cake. Milk and cornbread sounds good right about now. U made me want some after watching ur video. 😋😋
Brownie corners mmmmmmm
No kidding. I need cornbread now.
What you said ! Buttermilk & cornbread is a whole meal by it's self ,that's old school eating lol 😉

Thank you so much for this! If you follow the Jiffy cornbread recipe on the box you end up with a crumbly MESS!
I never can get it right so I'll try your way
Made this yesterday. The kids and hubby loved it, so much so that they were eating it for breakfast. Thank you, I saved it as a go to!
So this will soon be a church recipe. Thank You So much I love your calm voice and beautiful laugh
Your laugh is contagious! Lol Recipe looks great! Will def try
😂😂 I know
I like mine with red beans and rice with some andouille sausage. ;)
I’m a Louisiana girl so I’m definitely with you on this one!
Mark 🙌🏾, yes lord delicious 😋.
Mansa, your voice and sweet giggles are infectious in a very heavenly way. I have the bread in the oven now, and when I have a piece later today I will be sure to think of you.
Aww that’s nice of you ma’am❤️. I’ve not made it since I filmed this recipe, so rich 😋
Hello Aging😊
This looks fantastic! No idea why I never thought to use buttermilk! Nothing like a hot slice with a cold chunk of butter shoved in the middle!
I don't have any buttermilk or a cast iron skillet so I'll try your mom's recipe, wish me luck!
:D
That's different
@@sgt.kilrain6891 you can add vinegar to the milk to turn it into butter milk I'm not sure about the amount, it isn't much. Don't have a idea of what to do to turn your skillet into cast iron. 😃
This looks so good and she's so clean.
This is exactly the way I have been making my jiffy cornbread for about 15 years! Absolutely amazing 👏
Have always made mine this way but this mix has a lot of sugar so I dont add any more.
With leftover corn bread, my mom's tradition was to put a slice or two inside a glass of milk for breakfast. Oh, it really is so yummy. Great video, thanks.
My mom did that with ice cold buttermilk 😊
My mama loved cornbread and buttermilk.
I have not tried it with buttermilk. Sounds really good... now I'm craving buttermilk, lol.
We would eat that at my grandmas house when I wasa kid. A tall glass of buttermilk with cornbread in it. I guess I liked old people food, because the other kids wouldn't eat it, but I would!
My great-aunts would have that as an evening snack since they ate dinner early.
I love the way she’s narrating this video. ☺️❤️
@@His-Joule It's the culture in both sour cream and buttermilk that makes the baking powder "expansive", plain milk just doesn't have the same effect.
Thanks for sharing this tip! ;-D
It’s the way southerners have been doing it forever. Yummy 🤤
This looks yummy. The golden crust makes me want some now.
Thank you so very much for sharing this with us ❤
I do the same except with butter. Maybe not that much butter. It’s wonderful!
good to know Mine ALWAYS ALWAYS STICKS and falls apart
@@windermere2330 I think using butter gives a better flavor than using oil.
You can always go old school and fry bacon in the pan first then remove the bacon and add the batter. The bacon grease adds flavor and makes it not stick.
@@AlexaLake1exactly! And butter is much better for you than oil
I'm gonna try this & still add the kernel corn to it. Adding canned corn kernels takes it to another level! Want a blast of heat? Add diced jalapenos.
Yes
Corn is a must…sometimes I chop corn a bit in blender before adding…also add sharp Cheddar and sour cream…
The jalapenos would ruin it!!
It looks like the cornbread my mother used to make. If it tastes as good as it looks with a glass of buttermilk you be in old-school heaven.
Oh yeah, crumble that cornbread up in a bowl of buttermilk and dive in, a little chopped bacon too if you have it. 😚
My mom used to drink buttermilk all the time, she loved it.
That looks Amazing!!! Going to make this with my Crock Pot Ham and Bean Soup. Thank you so much for this video. Liked and Subbed

Lucky you,
My husband never says anything. This cornbread is excellent.
Wow the evaporated milk is a good tip................ and that's easy to keep on hand
I uses powdered buttermilk it works great .....I’m gonna try this recipe also that corn bread really looks good 👍🏾
@@maryjones3178 Oh yeah!! I forgot I even had that, but I do! You just saved the day. Thanks!
Glad you talked about evaporate milk, will come in handy when the lock down comes. Or if I'm low on milk.
Jiffy makes me think of cake.... not for me.
First time making corn bread and I am so glad this was the one I made. Everyone loved it, even the ones who claim they don't like cornbread. Well they loved this one. Thanks for the fantastic recipe.
They will ask you to bring the cornbread to every family event!

Thanks! The whole family liked this! We didn’t add the sugar and we used almond milk. It turned out delicious!
Mansa queen I enjoyed your recipe on a couple of levels. First of all your voice is soft and calming, second you cook with love and shows through
This is how my mother taught me to make it. I always thought that this was the receipe. Until I actually read the receipe on the box.
Yes, yes, yes! I recently purchased and old beat up undesirable square cast iron. Cleaned that baby up and made this cornbread! 😋 🙌 My husband couldn't stop talking about how good it was. It was!! Thanks for the recipe. God bless!
What size skillet did you use for this recipe?
That looks so good 😍. I used to used Jiffy for years. When my children stopped eating pork I stopped buying it. I make it from scratch. I use equal parts flour and Yellow Head cornmeal. Jiffy now makes a vegetarian cornbread mix. Great video, I love cornbread and I like mine sweet and thick like cake also! 💜💜
Tried this recipe. Delicious. Through in some corn that really gave it a kick!
And some onion and green chiles

My grandmother told me that there is NO substitute for a good quality cast iron skillet! And she was right. Try to find one that is in good shape at a flea market or garage sale. It will already be "seasoned". Just don't EVER wash it after use and let it air dry. It. Will. Rust!
I made this today and it was so good! My boys love it, thank you for the recipe.💕
Yes, I always finish my cornbread off with honey. I can’t wait to try this entire recipe thank you for sharing.
Wow am happy to hear that 🥰
Wow after seeing this ! Wife and I cooked up some red beans and rice, andouille! The jiffy bread was delicious! Thank you for sharing!

Made my New Years. I didn’t have buttermilk but I remembered reading somewhere that you can add sour cream as a buttermilk sub in baking. I used about 3 big table spoons. It worked, still added that nice moisture and didn’t corrupt the sweetness. Thanks!!
Wow sour cream worked too! That’s a great supplement that i haven’t tried yet, thanks for sharing and watching 🥰.
I add sour cream to my cake batter and they come out super moist so that makes sense. I’ll try that next time. Thanks!
You can make buttermilk with white vinegar or lemon juice in the milk. Just let sit about 15 minutes.
