My Foster Mom would do this in the 70's. She took the small biscuit tube and when opened she took a bottle cap to make the hole. Then deep fry them in oil and the donut holes. Didn't drain the oil but put them in a paper lunch bag and shake them with cinnamon and I. For chocolate frosting she took powdered sugar and chocolate syrup to make frosting.
I used to cut the biscuits into quarters , fry and drain them and put sugar and cinnamon in a brown lunch bag. Gave my children each a bag and had them shake the bag. They love it. " Poor Man's Donuts " , that's what we called. Whenever money was tight, those fried pieces of dough made tough times tolerable for my children and me. Even now my adult children still loves and yearns for them.
Me too! I've been making these since the 1970's when I learned it Home Ec class. But, I never thought of twisting them, even though I buy cinnamon twist donuts at the bakery. So glad I watched!
Oh I learned to fry them up just this way in a Home Economics class and just roll them in dry powdered confectioner sugar afterward and sooo Yum and such Sweet memories too. ❤️
@@quenquen200726oh at this Chinese, I went two years ago gosh I loved those Do you know how they do those I guess it's like this but they're shaped more like a square beignet?
My Mom used to make us fry pies using biscuit dough. She heated chunky applesauce with some cinnamon and nutmeg. She would flatten each biscuit into a large circle. Fill the center with a tbsp of the apple filling and fold in half. Pinch sides together and fry. So yummy!
Oh this brings back so many memories! My mama used to make doughnut biscuits - which I very quickly learned to do for myself - because they were so good! She never got fancy with almond extract or lemon - she just did the basic glaze or usually, just the cinnamon/sugar mixture! But I love them to this day! I am going to try the jelly filled ones next, because I love raspberry-filled jelly donuts! And I will add the powdered sugar glaze!! Thanks so much for this video, as well as the tip for freezing any left-over dough! PS I never measure either LOL
In college in the late 70s, my sorority raised money by making and selling biscuit donuts. This was before Grands were on the market so we would buy any frozen biscuits to use. We used a Fry Daddy then use powdered and regular sugar to coat them or spread chocolate icing on them. Trust me, we made money every time!

I make Apple Cider Donuts this way every fall. Everything is the same except when I make the glaze I use Apple Cider and some Pumpkin Pie Spice...then to put them over the top...once they're glazed I dip the tops in crushed Apple Jack cereal...they are AMAZING !
You were talking about the jelly filled donuts. The cake decorating sets usually have a long tube shaped tip that comes with them. You can also use those to fill the donuts and donut holes. For the ones with cinnamon and sugar, you could also use the ready made Philadelphia Cheesecake filling to fill them. Just insert a wooden spoon handle first to make a cavity for the filling, then insert the decorating tip into the cavities so that you can fill them with the cheesecake filling. Then you can do the cinnamon sugar, chocolate icing or regular glaze. They will be as good as any donut shop. For fillings you are as limited as your imagination. Have fun and enjoy your tasty treats.
Omg when I was like 10-11 my dad on a weekend said it you all pickup the house and yard I will make you a surprise you will never forget ❤ he cut up a pop biscuit and fried them and omg I still make them and he’s right I never forgot ❤so damn good 😌
I love to take each biscuit and fold it over a piece of chocolate 🍫 then mold it into a ball. After frying put the balls in a paper bag and add powdered or regular sugar. SO GOOD 🤤
My family did this all the time..they are the best😊 It's crazy that your channel came across my feed because I wanted to do these with my grandkids so i went to store to get the biscuits and they don't sell the original Pillsbury biscuits we used as kids they were in a tall skinny tube and cost less than a buck lol. I was so disappointed BUT now I see I can use that type of biscuit im heading to the store.❤ they take me way back we called them fried dough. Thanks for your video 😊
I use the cap from my milk jug as a donut hole maker in the biscuit. I'm not a big fan of jelly donuts so that won't interest me. I do like the cream filled like the Hostess Twinkie has in it. I just squirt canned Dream Whip into them and it's wonderful. I also just use straight powder sugar mixed with nothing else and put on donuts. I do the glaze ones also and add Orange juice to the powder sugar and make an Orange glaze. Do the same using Strawberry soda pop. If course you can just by cake icings in various flavors at the store. Hershey's makes a great milk chocolate canned icing on the shelf at the store. I use metal tongs to flip my donut concoctions with in the hot oil. That way you are certain to flip them. If you like nuts add crushed ones to your glaze and dip the donuts in them. I'm 72 and been making canned biscuit donuts since I was a child in the 1950s with my mother.
Yes I have when the children were young and just wanted enough for them. We would do filled one and maple bars. I use to be a dryer in the 70s and know how to make REAL doughnuts but their dad wouldn't allow them in the house so while at work I could make just enough to be gone by the time he got home. We would put jelly in them and cinnamon twists with a simple glaze. Alot of fun for children to do too. They can make the shape they like. They now have their own children and have done the same with them.😊🎄👵from rural Alaska. Happy Holidays to all.
I wanted to be mad when you said cut the doughnut and put he jelly, but I realized I'm dumb for not already doing that! lol These are my go to when I want to give my kids a special weekend treat and I prefer (because I'm lazy) to just make glazed/maple bars. Same prep/cooking/glaze methods just add maple extract, and if you wanna get gamma phi gamma bougie throw some bacon on top. Thanks for this I'm doing twists and jelly filled this weekend and they won't know what hit 'em!
We used the top to a 2 liter bottle to cut our holes. Works like a charm! We also used to shake the donuts in a paper bag with the cinnamon sugar, you can do bigger batches! Thanks for the ideas! Can't wait to try them!

Say it louder for the folk in the back! "A little fried biscuit never hurt NOBODY!" YES! Agreed!
Those are for when you can't have any ferment in the house. A real doughnut gets yeast and fat.
I don't think that's quite true, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.
