As a drummer learning bass, I appreciate the advice to not play all those killer fills on a gig or fear getting fired. That transfers well with drum overplaying for sure.
I’ve been building tube amps for years! Worked with all the well known amp builders around. I don’t build solid state stuff but have made some killer simple preamps. No matter what, I’m done carrying around an old Crown Macrotech or old QSC MX series. I’ve always been a huge fan of 12’s for Bass even way back when. I’m done with too. This exact rig has me sold!!! I do like some mid growl, the older I get. Not honky just some grit which I can get with a pedal? Motown with James has that really beautiful smiley face EQ sound and then on a bigger scale John Paul Jones had it with his Acoustic 360 rig. Jaco has the 360 but with the fretless Jazz Bass and cranked mid control got more of that “Honk.”
You are a gifted player and at 65 I still watch your lessons. If I were a youngster I'd jump on that set up.So I use a Double Four at home and for coffee house gigs.I just took advantage of the sale and grabbed a long wanted PJB PB-100 powered speaker to give the D-4 a boost.I'm looking forward to it.
I used to have a flightcase and the powered cab under it. First I had the v1 briefcase. I’ve been running cab-less for a while now and I’m thinking it’s time for a suitcase compact stack or similar
My old bass player brought two of those anemic looking C-8s and a 1000w amp to a gig and proceeded to blow the entire band away. Next time he brought only half of that rig.The scalable nature of the PJB amps is a huge asset.
I used to lug an SWR Henry the 8×8 around. That thing was the loud as hell and cut through the drums really well. Before that I had a Mesa 2×15 and I couldn't hear myself.
Great demo! Where did you get that T-shirt? I'm looking forward to receiving my C4 this week!!! Your signature 5 string bass sounds great and the low B sounds AMAZING! The BP 800 manual says that the amp is rated for AT LEAST 800 W RMS at 4 ohms and AT LEAST 500 W RMS at 8 ohms. That tells me that the C4 can handle some power and most likely more than 400 W RMS at 8 ohms!!!
Can I ask ... what did you think of the cabinets? I'm personally thinking of picking up one up(maybe 2) to use with mesa D800..love the idea of the light weight cabs
No dude, it’s designed so each knob controls the sound of each of the separate strings from low low, low, low mid, mid mid and mid from B-E-A-D-G (unless you’re playing a four string bass where obviously you would not use the low low knob) just like the highly trained rep for PJB eloquently explained it. Besides like frequencies and stuff are like pretty overrated anyway 🙄
Great playing Jayme. I’m trying to lighten my load. I know you don’t generally use amps on stage , but in your opinion, would a pair of C4 cabs be full & loud enough to handle playing in an average cover band. I work in blues, oldies, classic rock, classic country bands as well as jazz units. I need the power to be there in a lot of these situations. My "go to" head is a GK Legacy 1200. Please let me know what you think?
I sort of consider the c4 to be on par with a high efficiency 12” with a little earlier low extension roll off. It’s kinda hard to describe how they’re different from other cabs in general because the PJB stuff just reacts different. The simplest way is to look at the size of the cab, imagine the sound of a typical cab that size. Then imagine that all those reference cabs in your mind have blankets over them, and you’ve just pulled the blanket off. That’s the PJB sound.
Hey there... Greetings from Germany. I like the Song "Try to sleep" a lot. But I can't find it. Who is the Artist? Bye the Way. Cool Review. Thanks for the Stream.
Sequence the drums first, THEN bass. It sounds like the drums are chasing the bass line…which in practice they are because that’s how you approached it. Once you loop that sequence, especially with the three open hats at the end….it kills the swing🤷🏻♂️
Yes, he’s playing through both speaker cabinets in this video. Those are 8ohm cabs so you would need to run two of them together for a 4ohm load to get the full 800 watts from the amp. Otherwise it’s around 400 watts when paired with a single 8ohm cabinet.
You have the Phil PB800 and two C4 Cabs?? If so how are you connecting them if there’s only one speakon on BP800 head help!!! Thanks can I plug two 8 ohms @800watts into this head or one 4 ohm @800watts into the head
I brought the 800 Phil Jones amp, not to happy with the amp to me has no bottom lows not to mention 800 they it is sound very weak power come paired to others amp heads I have
Love the Kellyanne Keough play along section. Absolutely monster sound and immaculate playing, made me chuckle. Brilliant!

🔥 🔥 If playing those riffs on a gig will get you fired, I don’t want to get hired!! 😂

amazing playing
I'm sure it also has something to do with your fingers but that amp sounds so good!

Here I am, 10 months later, making a dance coreography to your song

Did you get the 800? If so that's sweet. But all PJB stuff is great.

In that case, you should read page 7 of the manual.

What flats were on the P bass? Lovely sound!
Hey there... Greetings from Germany. I like the Song "Try to sleep" a lot. But I can't find it. Who is the Artist?
Bye the Way. Cool Review. Thanks for the Stream.
I need more lessons on that funk style, ghost note playing. Where can I go??? She you start playing the jazz with flats. I can listen to that all day

Killer playing. What was the second "old school" song? "Well behaved women never make history."
Can you plug in the other cab along with the first one as well.

where do I get a shirt like that?
I envy your bass playing so good. How to play like that.
Where do I find the "take me back to Memphis" song? Awesome
Does anyone know, Who is singing this song? I love it...
Bump. I cannot find it on RUclips

The same way you do with every single cab , run them in a chain
Have u ever played philjones roadcase combo?
this was my first time playing pjb anything, actually
I just ordered one yesterday. I'm so excited.
what brand is your headphones over-ears??
These Amps are known for being really hi fi. Do they sound good with distortion pedals at all?
They absolutely do. I regularly use fuzz and distortion and they both sound great.
Something's wrong if you dont know the actual frequencies of the knobs.
Kermit is pretty good at bass.
How are the 2 cabs connected?
daisy chained via speakon cable
Santos from friendswood Texas

How do you run a bp800 to 2 cabinets
The c8’s have a link speakon the you chain to the other cab
What Bass are you on?

I just wish you would stop butting in and let him answer the question. So many questions were not answered properly because you didn’t listen!
Dude you are rude as hell. You constantly cut the guy from PJB off.
You are an amazing player but Jesus, you seem to love the sound of your own voice.
you are talking too much!!!
