Ordering A Drink This Way Is A Red Flag For Bartenders

  • Don't take your cues for how to behave at a bar from TV shows and movies. Fictional characters are often too rude, too indecisive, and use antiquated language when they order. And if you behave like them, then you'll be showing that you've seen people order a lot more drinks on TV than you've ever ordered yourself.
    Show your inexperience too clearly, and you could get carded by the bartender. Or even if you don't make the bartender think you're underage, you could still convince them you're a rude customer who shouldn't be their priority. So follow the etiquette rules, and remember that ordering a drink this way is a red flag for bartenders.

      I do... stop giving trash opinions and biased content. The only beneficial knowledge on how to order a drink was "don't be rude". What country of origin were you even speaking of? Most bars where I am from have 2-3 servers at a time. You're telling me an Irish car bomb is difficult? "Oh, I don't know how to pour a shot, and a beer!" While long islands, martinis, even a margarita takes more ingredients. What about moscow/Irish mules? Or even a grean tea?.... my advice is, don't give advice on anything you know nothing about... I gave you your compliment. The rest is constructive criticism. Now start building. Smh....

  • @jerseykaari
    @jerseykaari 2 года назад +9

    As the joke goes in NYC, what's the difference between a Bartender and a Mixologist?
    About $5 per drink.
    Most of the better bartenders I've seen (unless the place is slamming busy) will actually try to impart some friendly knowledge to inexperienced (legal) drinkers rather than get annoyed by them - to a point.

  • @christopherross8358
    @christopherross8358 2 года назад +10

    Crazy, when did people get so emotionally invested in what the bartender thinks?
    Super simple - order your drink. If it only requires a top be taken off $1 tip. If it require three liquids mixed $2 tip. If it requires a magical performance (which I've never seen) then a ten spot for the group, cause why would you need that for yourself. Usually I'll order an old fashion ($ 3 tip if made right) - and then gauge the barkeeps skill based off that drink, then order accordingly. If they can't get that cocktail right - then I'll stick to bottle tops and straight shots for the remanding rounds. If they are amazing at their job, i'll ask them to make something - that gets a ten spot as well.

      Wait a minute, isn't the bartender getting paid? Isn't his job to take a drink order and then make the drink? That's why he's there right?
      So why would you give him a dollar to take the cap off of a beer bottle?
      The last time I was in a bar, a bottle of beer was $5.50, which is outrageous anyway. Plus another dollar for removing the bottle cap?

    • @christopherross8358
      @christopherross8358 2 года назад +1

      @@donmiller2908 It all depends what type of bar you are at, and how crowded it is. If it's a crowded bar that's a popular spot, where the drinks are going to be expensive anyways, tipping well is to ensure fast service. So basically the customer should yield to the ease of the person serving them. What a joke. I was a bartender for over a decade and we had to make the way drinks and the hard drinks. And sometimes people didn't tip well. The customer was always right even if they were wrong and drunk. And cheap. And ignorant. It's a job butter cup. Stuck it up and do the job or go drop french fries in a fast food joint.
    Today bars have a zillion choices in not just liquor but beer and specialties. Sometimes I ask questions. I like to know what's on special. Maybe what the bartender thinks is good. If the bartending is off any quality, he or she should know many drinks to suggest to someone who is new to ordering or my want to try something new.
    If you don't like being a bartender and making difficult drinks, dealing with needs or the casual drinker then go get another job.

    This is ridiculous. Order by shots instead of fingers? Both of which are 1 oz. There may be some inexperience on the bartender side but probably not the customer side. The only person I remember doing this was a Vietnam vet. But isn't it the equivalent of saying "on the rocks" when you mean "on ice" because rocks are different sizes and and different temperatures and you must be young if you order "on the rocks" when you mean "on ice". This is just stupid. If the bartender knows what you mean then you are good to go.
    Reminds me of a hamburger order that was "cut the onions". This means don't put them on the burger please. But it came back with chopped onions.
    My advice is make eye contact, speak clearly, tip generously. And if the bartender is swamped you might order something simple like a bottle of beer. You be the judge.

    ..... the first tip....... were not in the 1800's or prior to prohibition....what country is this from? Who asks for a horoscope sign? You're more than likely to just be refused. A titos tequila is a thing and it's just titos with a splash of Jose quervo. I will agree with not being rude to the bar tender. But an Irish car bomb is not difficult. It's more difficult to make a long Island than a car bomb.... most bars where I'm from won't serve you 20+drinks at a time for a party of five or less. Yet we will easily drink 30 or more.... where is this information coming from? I feel as if I was just read a children's book on how to color. What country does this originate? I can't vouch for other countries but this is ridiculous.... asking me what my states capital or what my horoscope sign is... that is literally assuming all bartenders are fluent in astrology. What's next? Oh, you're a Leo? What cusp and retrograde are associated with that?! This "identification card" looks just like you. But let me give you a pop quiz..... give your balls a tug and pull your finger out of your ass. I asked for a drink. Not an application to nasa....
