Another great video. Every time you dropped that pistol I flinched lol. And then when you hit it with the mallet😳LoL.Any issues with rust? I’ve seen a lot of videos where guys are having rust problems. I like Ruger and own several, but I’ll stick with my FN when it comes to the 5.7. Keep up the great work 👍
Buffman - R.A.N.G.E. I’ve been in a few chat rooms where guys have had rusting of frame and slides. Something about the finish Ruger used? I don’t own one so I don’t know for sure. I’m an FN guy. And that’s why I subscribe to your channel which is the best out there for FN👍
I've talked to a few people that had rust issues with their Ruger 57s. All of them had sent it into Ruger to address it and all of them came back with the rusted parts replaced and refinished with a new coating that the gun didnt have before. I dont know if it's a cerakote or a nitride finish tho. It should have come from the factory with it, but at least Ruger is doing the right thing by addressing it, no questions asked and providing a fix, that hopefully, keeps it from happening again.
I live on the gulf coast at 9' elevation. Carry is nearly every day in a leather holster. Even the leather trapping moisture hasn't caused my Ruger 57 to remotely try to start rusting.
You missed the drop on the back. That should be protected by the trigger dingus (nothing to do with the firing pin), but for modern pistols, I assume muzzle and butt are the most dangerous drops. Also, just like you don't trust a gun to feed, extract, or eject after seeing it cycle once, I wouldn't test drop safety after one drop (or 2 or 10). If I thought there might be an issue (I haven't researched the design so I have no opinion), I'd want more like 100 drops. I'm not asking you to do this, and a small number of drops is still interesting, but if I thought there was an issue, I would want a lot more drops to pass before trusting it.
Total safe i had a live round in the chamber of my ruger 57 i freakin dropped it on concrete by accident from about waist high. Didnt go off. A little pissed i got a little knick on my slide.
And here we are- one year later with it's first Safety Bulletin from Ruger. I have two Five-7's myself- but am unimpressed overall- with the design and implementation of this weapon's internal safety system. Wartime safety is statistically 'good enough' though I wouldn't carry Condition 2 with this firearm during peacetime.
You bought two Ruger 57's that you are not impressed with? What so far has not been impressive through proformance? You did just watch the video right? How is that not impressive for safety? Should there be like a tornado test? Store in a nuclear reactor for a while? Oh how about an incinerator? Hahahaha!
I love mine only knock is too big to conceal carry atleast for me it is. But thats not what I bought it for. A dream to shoot. Ammo is kinda pricey but well worth it to me.
I believe the second test you should be doing without a vice actually. You're trying to introduce rapid accelleration on the gun with the mallet and clamping it means your stressing the material quality of ... the slide? Interesting tests though!
Thanks for this video, cant lie though i was waiting for that drop on the back of the gun where you would think the sweet spot would be for it to go off.
You have to manipulate it with a pick. The company would have tested along with its trials. Just like leaving it in water for a few days or not oiling it for months/ever. I like the fn and its extremely expensive in comparison. The hard core fn guys seem to want to down it instead of saying more aftermarket parts and gear to sell. Popularize the round. Great for all people and ages. Try to get better round selection.
Yeah I seen that video and I was semi-concerned but thought how come 1911 fans especially Colt Series 70 never had similar concerns. Most of this Cooties20 year I wanted the R57 but couldn’t find one. Strolled in local Sportsman’s Warehouse one afternoon looking for something else (few R57 showed online but seemed everyone was scalping them at $750-800) and one just happened to be in the gun case for $649. Needles to say I snagged the bitch and was mighty proud to have lucked onto one. Now it sits in my safe because haven’t found a single box of any 5.7 anywhere! Talk about scalping online am I for it is really being scalped. Still don’t care cause possession is truly 9/10th possession and I got it!
@@2fargonedaytona128 5.7 ammo is definitely being scalped at the moment. Lucky gunner has some 50 round boxes of FN SS198LF 27gr for $100 LE and Military only? That the reason for the price? Why? Cause the round is aluminum core instead of lead? Shit is getting ridiculous. Found some Federal American eagle 5.7 40gr range ammo for $92 also 🙄
@@kalebbarant1990 that’s crazy and borderline criminal. My wife drove back 2 hours to local store purportedly to have a bunch in stock limited to 2 boxes. She let the owner and his working wife know she made the trip back from work 2 hours to get 2 they said how many do you want she said only /, right? He again said how many do you want? He said I own the store. She said okay, cool how about 10. Needless to say he was charging about $34 box of 50 for the Federal and about $37 for the FN branded self defense rounds. He actually threw 10th box in for free! She scored so now I went from zero rounds to 500 rounds!

You should have pulled the bullet out of the gun after you hit it with the rubber mallet and shown the primer. I would have been interested but I’ll take your word.
I think he was standing behind the ladder so you could see the gun drop. I'm pretty sure to he showed that there's no bullets in the cases just primers.
That's all fine and good but you didn't use Jay's special hammer from EA to do the dirty deed. Jay is talking about a theoretical possibility. In theory, I can outshoot Jerry Miculek.
Idk if someone said this or not but after the first test when you ejected the shell that would have reset the trigger. So when you pulled the trigger and said the hammer hadn’t fallen wasn’t that irrelevant? Not saying the hammer fell cause we would have heard the primer go off just saying.
Buffman - R.A.N.G.E. Lol 🤷♂️ still a good test and it passed. I wasn’t even aware people were saying it could happen. Probably just salty p320 owners 😂😂
I ordered mine from Scottsdale Gun Club in June. They said it was gonna take two months to get. I had it two weeks later.... However, Ruger is based in Prescott, AZ so maybe that had something to do with it?
It has a 1911 style manual safety, makes it a great every day carry gun. If we weren't under a wannabe communist regime up here in canada, the ruger 57 or American 45 would be my edc.
Considering Ruger also states in their manual NOT to carry the Ruger 57 with one in the chamber, that tells me that Jay and Tim’s observations were correct. You were also dropping the gun on a padded area that absorbs much of the energy. I have owned an FN 5.7 for a while now and absolutely love it! I was excited for the Ruger 57 too but until they fix that issue, I will not buy one. I keep all of my firearms loaded with one in the chamber and even if the chance of the safety or hammer striking the primer is small, that is still a no go for me. If Ruger ever fixes the issue then I will buy one. But if they don’t, then I won’t!
The drop test protocols I think state to drop it on rubber floor. That's a very high density floor. Ruger also tells you their Precision and all of their firearms can go off when dropped. It's CYA more than anything. But I'm just here to show my results, and I'd gladly re-test when someone proves it can go off when being dropped..
Buffman - R.A.N.G.E., if Ruger only put the warning in there as a CYA, then why don’t other companies do the same? I also get you not wanting to damage your gun. I don’t intentionally drop any of mine either. On concrete, mats or whatever? But I have to believe that warning was placed in there because Ruger knows the potential. I have spoken with Jay several times before and buy his ammo for my 5.7 (T6B and Devestator) and I don’t think he made the video just to make it. He and Tim both noticed the issue and have enough firearms knowledge that it concerned both of them. I think what they said was valid.
I'm certainly not disagreeing that it's "not a concern", but the action mech isn't like most others this is being compared to. I know Paul H was interested in testing it, so time will tell.
Even the 2020 FN America manual says not to carry with one in the chamber and also states that ANY firearm may fire if the firearm is dropped. It also states that it is the pistol owners responsibility to keep up to date with this information. Looks like you've failed to do so.
I've had mine for a couple months now. And yeah was disappointed when reading the manual and saw the disclaimer. No I wont be pounding it or throwing it lol. But also simply won't carry it loaded just for the reason of if it did for some crazy reason fire my kids would have to pay to bury me not Ruger just cause they had the forethought to make mention of this. During all the sig hype of drop fires it may have been to their advantage to list that for a just in case scenario perhaps to cover their asses.. at the very least. But. Its not a carry gun no way. Its a range toy. Nothing about the gun is for defensive use. Or else it wouldn't have the slide cutouts n whatnot that will only catch lint n debris anyways. So only time its loaded is when I'm about to have fun with it. Just my observation
Man!! that’s to much. just dropping your firearm like that is a negligence. So if you are that stupid don’t purchase any firearm to find out if will discharge when dropped. You will get killed by your own vehicle before you get shoot by your own firearm discharge when dropped. Better yet don’t carry one in the chamber if you scare about dropping your handgun. 🤦🏻By the way this is not for Buffman R.A.N.G.E, good video, it’s being proof this gun is stupid safe🤣
ALL firearms should not be dropped unless they're unloaded... ❗️❗️❗️ Could you give us documented cases where a Ruger 57 discharged when dropped ❓❓❓ I did drop a hammer and it broke my big toe...
I like 5.7 concept but at almost $1 a round no thanks I'll drop some 9mm Underwood or liberty ammo in my glock and have a 5.7,now if you could actually get the good 5.7 ammo maybe I'd change my mind
I think the price of 5.7 ammo may go down after enough Ruger 57's get purchased, and the ammo manufacturers start seeing the 'need' for the ammo go up. As it stands, 5.7 ammo is expensive because only 2 firearms use it. P90's and the FN FiveSeven. Both of which are expensive as !@#!$. So there's been a lack of 'need' for mass production. Hopefully more ammo manufacturers will start producing more less expensive 5.7 rounds now that Ruger has stepped onto the field with a more affordable firearm.
Not sure if I can post photos here to illustrate my biggest concern that I've seen un-mentioned involving the ruger 57.. but ill try after I type this. Sorry I super ever weigh in on youtube lol. Bear wimme please lol. But if youre like me and when u do carry this concealed and under a large t-shirt. When u put the gun in safety mode, its overly large 1911 style ambi safety tabs instantly turn into giant diaper pins basically and almost instantly ensnare large swaths of fabric of the shirt you're wearing as you do the standard sweeping action anyone does as they sweep the t-shirt out of the way to expose the gun. And this myself i find to actually be its biggest fatal flaw when discussing this as a tactical type conceal carry primary firearm. Theyll need to address this with some aftermarket shorter style safties that have less room between the safety and the slide.. and be far less pointy at the ends and more rounded over.
@@BuffRANGE I've noticed there's a tiny pin that should release the right side of the safety that causes all the snags. Just havent read into the exploded view on how it all ties in together yet. For all i know it will cause the left one thats most important to come loose also. Doubt it tho. So that may be a quick fix is to just remove the outer safety switch. Or better yet remove them all and just rely on your finger and the dingus as your safeties. Then yeah id say its good for carry. But yeah would need some tritiums imo if anyone plans to do so. And on another note. Many compare the ruger to the striker based 320 when doing this test. To my best of my knowledge the ruger is concealed hammer single action pistol. And is kind of an apples n oranges thing when being compared. Not sure if many people knew that little fact. I do enjoy watching your videos. Keep it up bud
@@hughgrection3052 yes the Ruger is a concealed hammer, but it is not a single action. you pressing the trigger to the rear, still continues to pull the hammer back the final amount, then releasing it. :D
@@hughgrection3052 in theory :D If you look through the open port on the back as you're pulling the trigger, you'll see towards the end of travel that it finishes pulling the hammer down before releasing.

I was beyond excited when this gun came out. Then people began posting information about the ballistics on available ammunition to civilians, and now I am not excited about what I learned. Great video, but since I will never buy one I won’t be able to drop one.
Buffman - R.A.N.G.E. Well?!?...(said in an interesting eye brow raised tone of voice as though I understand I have much to learn). Everyone was saying that the STOPPING power of the round out of this pistol made it anemic (I gathered they were referring to it being able to absolutely punch holes but not performing as other pistol rounds would by having the bullet transfer the blunt stopping energy to the target; hollow point 9mm etc). I could be wrong in what I understood they were saying. Then others were talking about availability of good ammo (as if referring to several years ago there was an Ammo available that made it a better performing weapon, but since has become unavailable). I wished it came with a threaded barrel - would love to have used the Dead Air Mask on it. I am always open minded and ready to learn. Thanks for whatever you can pass on. Great video - ty for your time.
@@russream3732 When it comes to 'stopping power', people are not necessarily referring to 'killing power'. What their referring to is that a round such as a 45 will 'knock down' the target they hit because it hits with so much force do to the mass of the round, it literally will knock over the object it hits. Just because the 5.7x28 round does not have 3x the mass, does not mean its any less lethal to a target. It just means that your not going to literally see the target you hit fly backwards 5ft. The way the 5.7x28 round is designed, its Center of gravity is actually at the 'rear' of the round. This causes it to 'instantly' start to tumble the moment it hits a surface, which also makes it deliver a lot of its 'energy' within that first impact as well (unlike a higher powered rifle round that 'zips' right though and continues on). There is a PDF i stumbled onto that is the results of a Joint Agency Ballistics trial done back in 2016/2017, were they tested 9mm, 357mag, 40S&W, 10mm, 45ACP and the 5.7x28. img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/b2161a32-695e-4a4e-baa2-209a9a981c67/downloads/1cm0bjp2p_175650.pdf?ver=1590424969636 Page 41 specifically is their results from the 5.7x28 test. When it comes to tests in 'ballistics gell', they had trouble determining just how much damage the 5.7 was doing 'because' its designed to tumble on impact. It wasnt till they started shooting actual 'meat' with it, that they started being able to see results. And those results suprized them enough that they did extra rounds of testing to confirm what they were seeing : "Measurements taken on over 100 shots verified that wound channels through tissue with or without barriers equaled or exceeded that of hollow points in all calibers! " The instant tumbling of the round also helps to prevent over-penetration.
:D I can't say it would never happen, but only that the manual "don't carry with a loaded chamber because it could go off" is more CYA than an actual lack of internal safety issue :D
Ok hearing it now. Not sure what was happening but the first time I played it I could barely hear it with the volume cranked all the way up here. Maybe a glitch on my end. Seems good now. Sorry.

I felt every single inch of fall damage in my soul 😭‼️
It still keeps ticking :D
2:55 that freaked me out. Like how did he grow another finger!? Lol
Haha camera helper to the rescue!
"you missed the drop on the back"
If you mean the 'back' of the firearm were the hammer is. That's pretty much what the mallet was doing was it not?
So basically take a sledgehammer to a gun until the gun is destroyed and then you know the gun is safe to carry and drop.......😅
Huge thanks for this!
But the recall is only with the lever itself not the actual safety system?
You bought two Ruger 57's that you are not impressed with? What so far has not been impressive through proformance? You did just watch the video right? How is that not impressive for safety? Should there be like a tornado test? Store in a nuclear reactor for a while? Oh how about an incinerator? Hahahaha!
Truly hurts me to watch this Ruger dropped and banged up, but very thankful for your time.
Hehe, the rubber helped him a little. Still going strong!
Haters hate. Instead of being happen about interest and popularity of the round it's all about the fan boy factor.
I've tried it without the vice off camera weeks ago, :D
Just watching him bash the shit out of that poor hun hurts me
It's ok he can take it.
Thanks for this video, cant lie though i was waiting for that drop on the back of the gun where you would think the sweet spot would be for it to go off.
The way you get it to go off on safety is to pop off the slide and hook the sear with an allen wrench. I'm sure that's how it happens.
heheheh
You have to manipulate it with a pick. The company would have tested along with its trials. Just like leaving it in water for a few days or not oiling it for months/ever. I like the fn and its extremely expensive in comparison. The hard core fn guys seem to want to down it instead of saying more aftermarket parts and gear to sell. Popularize the round. Great for all people and ages. Try to get better round selection.
Thank you!!!! Keeping my Ruger 57 now haha
Good choice!
Lucky gunner has some 50 round boxes of FN SS198LF 27gr for $100
LE and Military only?
@@2fargonedaytona128 out of desperation, I ordered two 50rd boxes of FN 40gr V-max from Ammo Supply Warehouse, and it's been quite a while and they have yet to process the order.
They've already charged my card, and the money's come out of my bank account, but they haven't even started the process of processing or shipping it yet.
I'm willing to bet I never will receive my ammo OR a refund.
You should have pulled the bullet out of the gun after you hit it with the rubber mallet and shown the primer. I would have been interested but I’ll take your word.
Hurts my heart to see you drop the gun that many times
For science. :)
Remind me not to let you borrow any of my guns 😉
I typically treat things that aren't mine very well :D
So far 15 FN owners watched this
That hammer check at the end doeent really count since you racked the slide but good video
Safe enough for me!
I too trust the bulletproof protection of a step ladder.
In theory... I still can't outshoot Jerry lol
I lost it when he used a whole hammer to beat the gun to death 🤯😳🤣
Great stuff man!
I wonder how they accomplished this. Is the firing pin spring loaded? Or does it have an abnormally low mass?
not sure. I'll have to weigh the firing pin
Impressive. Now try that with the P320. 😉
Hahah No :D - Well maybe one that's been fixed..
Thank you
They were probably creating the hype cuz Ruger wasn't giving too many kickbacks.
I would like to an impact to the rear of the slide. Why not drop it at this angle?
Honestly I forgot to. I did off video and result is the same, no fire.
If it was 1500$ gun they wont be saying that but becuse its cheap they saying all that b's i love this gun
Idk if someone said this or not but after the first test when you ejected the shell that would have reset the trigger. So when you pulled the trigger and said the hammer hadn’t fallen wasn’t that irrelevant? Not saying the hammer fell cause we would have heard the primer go off just saying.
Yeah I thought about that after I did it. I'm like that doesn't show people it didn't drop, but the primer didn't go off.
Buffman - R.A.N.G.E. Lol 🤷♂️ still a good test and it passed. I wasn’t even aware people were saying it could happen. Probably just salty p320 owners 😂😂

This caliber with appropriate loads is plenty suitable for carry.

I do. Just cant get hands on one. A Ps90 either smh..
I put my order in for the Ruger 57 back in early January and still waiting, WTF. What do they do manufacturer 1 gun a week.
Who did you order from? Every dealer has different purchasing power and stock allotment priority.
I ordered mine from Scottsdale Gun Club in June. They said it was gonna take two months to get. I had it two weeks later.... However, Ruger is based in Prescott, AZ so maybe that had something to do with it?
Man you don’t have to listen to people that drop their guns.
I wish I saw this video before I smacked mine with a deadblow didn't Mar the gun but shit lol. I was confident it'd be good to go anyway tbh
Thank you great video
Very welcome
It has a 1911 style manual safety, makes it a great every day carry gun. If we weren't under a wannabe communist regime up here in canada, the ruger 57 or American 45 would be my edc.
you cant own guns?
Buffman - R.A.N.G.E., Paul Harrell is another trusted individual. If he also does any testing that will also be good to see.
Could you give us documented cases where a Ruger 57 discharged when dropped ❓❓❓
I did drop a hammer and it broke my big toe...
I don't know if any documented cases regarding the Ruger 57 going off when droppped
A spring loaded firing pin is drop safe.
I like 5.7 concept but at almost $1 a round no thanks I'll drop some 9mm Underwood or liberty ammo in my glock and have a 5.7,now if you could actually get the good 5.7 ammo maybe I'd change my mind
Different strokes for different folks. Both the liberty and underwood load would under perform vs the 5.7 ammo in the armor department :D
I agree the 5.7 would be a little better but not by much! Maybe someone should test that theory........someone who does fantastic tests 😁
Dropped it every way but the right way.
I dropped it on the butt tonight from up to 6' in the air. Same result. No fire.
57 is a Bad ass Pistol.!!!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Time will tell to see how much lint/debri will get into that lightning cut. I agree about the oversized thumb safeties..
@@BuffRANGE ah ok. So in other words its not in fire mode till then?
@@hughgrection3052 in theory :D If you look through the open port on the back as you're pulling the trigger, you'll see towards the end of travel that it finishes pulling the hammer down before releasing.

Just wanted because I don't have a 57 an think the bullet is cool just could not justify the price of the fn

Blue tip ammo was going for $120 for 50 rounds... So I didn't buy 😓 anybody know about the purple tip? 🤣
Man I almost shot myself with this dam gun it's not safe to carry one in the chamber it went off on me
and how did it go off on you? Need some details man.
I was beyond excited when this gun came out. Then people began posting information about the ballistics on available ammunition to civilians, and now I am not excited about what I learned. Great video, but since I will never buy one I won’t be able to drop one.
There’s a lot of ammunition available. What particular info turned you off?
There is a PDF i stumbled onto that is the results of a Joint Agency Ballistics trial done back in 2016/2017, were they tested 9mm, 357mag, 40S&W, 10mm, 45ACP and the 5.7x28.
img1.wsimg.com/blobby/go/b2161a32-695e-4a4e-baa2-209a9a981c67/downloads/1cm0bjp2p_175650.pdf?ver=1590424969636
Page 41 specifically is their results from the 5.7x28 test. When it comes to tests in 'ballistics gell', they had trouble determining just how much damage the 5.7 was doing 'because' its designed to tumble on impact. It wasnt till they started shooting actual 'meat' with it, that they started being able to see results. And those results suprized them enough that they did extra rounds of testing to confirm what they were seeing :
"Measurements taken on over 100 shots
verified that wound channels through tissue with or without barriers equaled or exceeded that of hollow points in all calibers! "
The instant tumbling of the round also helps to prevent over-penetration.
I'll give you $50 for it now that you may have put a couple stress cracks in it?
