- I finally got my ballistics gel block and wanted to test the ammo I use in my rifle! I took this shot from about 7 yards. After watching the 62 gr. Frontier ammo test from another channel I was worried about penetration but the 68 gr. ammo did a great job in not only penetration but in expansion and fragmentation!
Great video! Straight to the point.
Nice,,i load up a bunch of these and i always wanted to know what they did in gel.keep testing as many 556 match projectiles as you can,im sure we'd all love to know how they do. Good work and thank you..
@@william16845 that was why I did it too! Lol, you are very welcome!
Id love to see sierra 69s and 77s with cannalure..I also got a bunch of 70 grain copper monolithics I've loaded up,they were midway factory seconds and they didn't come from barnes.i also bought a box of 70 gr tsx and they had obvious differences..I got nosler 64 gr bonded also from midway(factory 2nds) there's a huge world of 224 projectiles id love to see shot in some gel.. keep up the good work.
I bet the 75 grain offering would get slightly better penetration. But a little less fragmentation.
Sounds logical.
The 75gr bthp and 73gr eld match both have a very similar looking permanent wound channel as in this video.
This ammo is extremely accurate out of my 16 inch. 223 Wylde. But I had no idea about how effective it is. This is an excellent demonstration. How far away were you? Anyway. Thanks, this ammo will get the job done for sure!
About 7 yards away.
Good video dude! Straight to the point nasty wound channel for sure try to pick this stuff up when I can find it hard to come by in my area sometimes I picked up 5 boxes today in my humble opinion very good defense round gonna give the shitbag on the receiving end a very bad day
Seriously! I bought it in bulk and when I went back to buy more, it was all out!
@@Hobbes0331 like I said I buy it up when I can find it because it is hard to find around me why I'm not sure seems to be a very good round and that wound channel was nasty which is exactly what you😎
I would like to see this test done at 100, 200 and 300 yards.
Just use a shorter barrel for testing.
Go buy a gel block and get er done
Nice test! Excellent penetration, although it might actually be more if shot from further due to the ‘hollow point.’ This 68-bthp is extremely accurate in my 20” A4 at 50-400 yards (1:9 twist), so it was good to see it performed well in gel.
Glad you liked the video!
Wouldn’t it be a little better out of 1:8 twist? Reason I ask is I’m about to buy a 16” 1:8 barrel and muzzle brake
Well, couldn’t hurt. I like the idea of 1:8, plus the 77’s might do Ok.@@kylespirk306
First, nice KP15 lower. Second, this 68 grain Frontier is ridiculously accurate from my barrel. I zeroed it at only 50 yards but every shot was touching one another with just a red dot and 3x magnifier. I've never had ammo that accurate without more magnification. I use a Faxon 16 inch pencil barrel.
Sounds like you have a nice light weight set up! You are also the second person who has commented on the accuracy and I have to say, I agree 100%.
My mid-profile free float FN CHF 1:7 barrel w/8X LPVO consistently shoots 1.25" groups at 100yds, while 75gr shoots 1"
(with the 5.56 version)
@@Nathan-jh1ho neither are bad results to me! Thanks for that info too. It really does seem to depend on the rifle :)
Pretty cool
Thanks! I'm glad it went so well :)
Subbed ! Nice video
Thanks! I think I'll be doing a 45 Auto HST next :)
Similar performance to the old Winchester 64gr Power Point. Fifteen inches of penetration with expansion to .5 inch
That sounds very effective!
Lol take 3! Nice video!
Thanks brohiem!
Has anybody had deer hunting experience with this hornady ammo? And what grain performed best? 55, 62, 68 HP?
Thats looks lethal. I dont like mono's. I dont like them in my .308 or my .223. Ive shot 5 deer at abt 100 yards off of my porch table with 223. I shot 2 with gmx. One was behind the shoulder and she ran 100 yards down hill with no blood and a pencil exit wound. I like the lead tips.👍
Soft points are reliable, that is for sure!
So is this Hornady's match 68gr bullet? Nice video.
I always thought it was but I haven't contacted the manufacturer about it.
IDK but Hornady makes a dandy 75gr Match bullet that hunters use for whitetails, pigs & coyotes including me. The 68 would make a little flatter shooting coyote round.@@Hobbes0331
I don’t think anyone else makes a 68grain. Sierra makes a 69grain.
👍👌
👍🏾
What is the rifling twist of your barrel
1:8
What was velocity?
I don't have a chronograph yet :( the website says 2960 out of a 24 inch barrel though. This was a 16 inch barrel so it's bound to be a bit less.
What distance from?
About 21 feet or 7 yards
They have the same bullet loaded to 5.56 NATO pressure and it is nasty.
I'm sure!
