    This park is really great. Lots of great coasters and some rides available for non-coaster people. Only issue I have with this park is the locker system and the layout of the park. There are a lot of rides that are just hard to find. I had a friend who went and told me that he literally didn't know Bizarro was there and I don't blame him.

      I think not knowing a ride is there can actually improve the experience, because next time you go, it's as if they've just built a new coaster, although in reality, you just didn't know it was there before.

    As a worker there, there have been incidents that lead to the park not wanting any loose articles on certain rides. The biggest issue being phones, even if in a zippered/buttoned pocket, the person can still remove said item, and if they don't have a good grip, item will go flying either into a zone we can't access during operations, or potentially hit someone. Jersey devil is in constant motion, which is why they want everything in a locker and not off to the side, as for El Toro, well it goes along the small lake and pathways, if something comes flying off the ride, it's either landing in the water, or potentially hitting another visitor or employee. So we ask to put stuff in the locker, or leave it with a non-rider. We try to maintain a quick and smooth load/unload but when people don't do as we ask, it holds everything up.

    • @SilverAuthority
      @SilverAuthority 2 года назад +20

      I completely agree with you. I work on Nitro and when we are running three trains we make it a goal to dispatch a train every 60 seconds. This is very possible if all the guests move quickly but since we are not strict about loose articles at Nitro sometimes people take their time putting things away and I will be waiting for them to return to their seat which slows down operations. Usually we have at least a few people each day who report losing their phone on the ride and if we do find the phone days later it is highly likely that it is smashed and this goes for any ride so the lockers make sense in terms of improving dispatch times (moves people through queue faster) and also enhancing safety. I think if the park found a system where the lockers could be free but also couldn't be hogged by multiple people in one group it would make the policy less burdensome. I also work on Jersey Devil Coaster and it is odd for me when I enforce the strict no loose article policy on JDC one day and then next week I'm at Nitro telling people they can put their stuff to the side. As a guest this would confuse the hell out of me even if there are signs because it's not consistent.

      @@SilverAuthority I work Lantern, Superman, and the boardwalk. Lantern and super, there are lockers nearby, but they can leave stuff to the side of the station (which usually means they leave their stuff right next to the trains -.-) I do feel there's a much better way to do the lockers. I'm just drawing a blank in my mind on what could work lol

    • @jeffc1347
      @jeffc1347 2 года назад +9

      He made it very clear he had no issue with the fact that there were mandatory lockers, it was with the fact that they charge for it. Its an obvious scam and makes the major coasters upcharges. Universal has the same policy and you have to go through metal detectors before going on certain rides, but they allow you to use the lockers for free.

    As a New Yorker, this is my home park and it feels good to see you donate review on it 🤗. If Six Flags could somehow manage to bring some parts of the park into the 21 century, I think it could really add to the experience. Like you said, some places could really use some theming as well as renovating places that seem untouched since the park opened (the Boardwalk) as well as to make the park feel more connected (the dead ends). I do agree though that the park has amazing operations especially Nitro.

      Yeah I’ve been going to great adventure for years, and I find the bathroom placement to be kind of sporadic. From the main food court in front of the Joker, if you really have to go to the bathroom you have to sprint to near Swashbuckler, and then the next bathroom after that (at least to my knowledge) is either inside Granny’s or by Batman

Where else can you go that has a hyper, flyer, stand up, floorless, inverted, Strata, RMC raptor, and the best wooden coaster on the planet? Plus two pretty fun indoor family coasters. And that’s just the coasters. Zumanjaro, justice league, Wonder Woman, sky ride, parachute tower, Houdini, skyscreamer…this park has it ALL. But agree about a smaller multi-launch coaster. As for the strictness on loose articles, I definitely agree with you, however, when in line for Joker roughly a year ago, a riders phone fell out of their pocket at the middle of the very top section and landed on the bottom roof of the ride which resulted in it absolutely exploding into a million pieces. I believe that they have since added a net in that location, but it still could've ended very poorly had the trajectory of the phone been different. There was an audible gasp from the entire line because of the sheer amount of pieces that went flying after the phone crash-landed.

They have also gotten A LOT more strict with restricting MJ into the park with sniffing dogs, which I like. But this causes for the parking lot to be very smelly on the way out. Your point on the Dead ends is really correct, and makes me appreciate Canada's Wonderland's layout even more, there is only like 1 dead end in the park, and they recently made it not so bad after they removed their Enterprise and put in a path between Yukon Striker and Behemoth. Canada's Wonderland is all loops which makes it super easy to do Coaster to Coaster to Coaster to Coaster without having to turn around at all. Also, Great Adventure has THE BEST skyride in the world, it's actually useful! Cedar Point's only cuts out part of the walk and Hersheypark's isn't even A to B, this one actually helps you get from one side of the park to the other, while being faster than walking!

I can understand everyone's gripe with the locker system. My only issue with them is I get the multiuse locker, which I can transfer over to each coaster so I can stuff my bag and loose articles in, but on really really busy days, or for the coasters that are really busy at that moment (ie Kingda Ka, Jersey Devil, El Toro), they don't have ENOUGH lockers so I'm stuck having to go to another ride or wait until a locker opens up

    While outdated in places is kind of fun for those of us over a certain age to go in and see things we remember from the 1980s. The locker policy is bad though. Only Jersey Devil was really enforcing it when we went, crazy strict enforcement. King Da Ka did light enforcement and the other coasters did none. Also, time to put some love in Green Lantern. That thing shakes and shuffles all the way through the course.

    This park used to be an great destination spot back in 2006. I remember they had Chiller and Rolling Thunder and a bunch of other flat rides but thats what this park is lacking now. Plaza de Carnival and Golden Kingdom feel empty without the animals and playground. At least they finally revived the Movie Town section. Plus they should really consider making a resort near the park because these hotels are far from the park. It’s still good but not as it used to be.

    This used to be my home park, but I moved, so now it's SFNE. I still come back from time to time, mainly to ride Kingda Ka, since we don't have a launch coaster at SFNE.
    As for the layout, I think it's a lot like Kings Island where all the coasters go outside of the park. I think this just happened with the way the park expanded over the years. It does make for some long walks. I wish the Skyride had better capacity since it seems to always have a big line and it ends up being quicker to walk.
    I really dislike the lose article policy, though it is mandated by the State of New Jersey. They should look into installing free lockers within the queue like Cedar Fair does.
    Operations have usually been good. Some ride crews are faster than others, but they almost always run multiple trains on everything. I've seen El Toro run one train a few times, I think due to cold temperatures and needing the trains to be full. If it's busy, they've always run both trains on days I've been there.
    They have definitely paid more attention to detail in recent years. All the flat rides they got during the Jim Reid Anderson years really helped to make up for earlier removals and fill in dead spaces in the park. The Wild Walkway was closed for many years, but brought back when they added Zumanjaro.
    The single rider line works really well at El Toro. They either assign you a row in the station towards the back of the train or fill empty seats after the gates close. It fills empty seats and doesn't really slow down dispatches. On Nitro it's sort of a free for all, but I think they'd organize it better on crowded days. I've yet to see the single rider lines open at Medusa or Jersey Devil.
    I agree with what their next coaster should be. It should be placed in the old Rolling Thunder plot, and add a new attraction to either the Golden Kingdom or Plaza Del Carnival, depending on where the entrance is.

    I have a rather unique issue with the lockers. I wear reading glasses but I can't take them on the ride, so I end up putting them in the locker. Which then makes it much more difficult for me to see the locker and keypad numbers to retrieve my belongings. As for the rides, there really is a great variety. Unfortunately, you have to be lucky to have them all running the day you visit. Great Adventure definitely needs a little love put into it. Many of the rides need to be repainted and it just needs some general sprucing up. But overall, those of us in the area are extremely lucky to call it our home park.

My school is having a trip to Six Flags for the day next week, the park doesn’t allow food into the park so we will be forced to buy food there. This isn’t a big deal to me, but what is crazy is that they only accept credit cards and the only way to use cash would be to buy a Six Flags debit card in the park. But if you buy that you are now locked into using that money or losing it. Overall it’s something that may not seem like a big deal to most people, but for me being in early high school it’s something that frustrates me most.

    it’s my home park so i have a soft spot, though even without being biased i can say it’s a great park. amazing ride collection (even with clones), pretty good operations usually, a good vibe, etc but i have to agree with you on a couple things, such as the locker system (which i don’t usually have a problem with but it can get annoying), the layout (went last summer for the first time in a couple years and ran into a couple dead ends and whatnot and i always get lots on my way to bizarro), and i guess the theming, though idc about that too much considering that this is a six flags park. my first visit to great adventure when i was younger was what sparked my interest in coasters and i love this park, even with its flaws. also el toro is either my #1 or #2, it’s close between that and velocicoaster. rode velocicoaster in december on my birthday and haven’t ridden it toro in around 3 years so i gotta see how they stack up to each other

    It's nice that if you already have a membership you get to keep it even though they're getting rid of them but it's probably my last year of this home park anyway since I'm moving next year and gonna have an even better park as my home park! (cedarpointcoughcough)

Going back in June with a gold pass so we'll see how it is in June!) You have the amazing woodie&hybrid (el toro & twisted timbers), big intamin (kingda ka & i305), a b&m floorless (medusa/bizarro & dominator), good supporting rides (sfgadv does it slightly better) And now with Tumbili we have the S&S 4D (like Joker!)

To me, it would make sense for them to move Green Lantern to a Six Flags park that needs more love (e.g. Darien Lake, St. Louis, Frontier City) to make room for a new coaster that better suits SFGAdv’s needs. My main con of this park is that no matter when I go, it’s always super crowded, the lines for every coaster are always really long. The only major coaster that will have short lines is Medusa, the line is routinely 15 minutes long. The next shortest line is El Toro with 30 minutes, this has remained consistent in my many visits to the park.
