I’m all in for Autel as I live in a large restricted space, but the buggy app and lack of Autel to deliver basic features like good tracking and waypoints. The camera is great.
I thought i would ask this question on here because I have ordered the evo nano + and being an old bloke i don't know anything about smart phones. I needed a drone to beat the geo lock and the first Autel model with built in screen was almost £2,000 so I had to get a controller with phone. I want to just buy the phone not to talk on it, how do I down load the fly apps if I don't want to connect it to the 'net'? any answers would be appreciated thanks
Great video, and a lot of new little extras that you have told me. I have to admit, I do love my Autel Evo Nano Plus (and use it far more than my Phantom 4 pro), which says it all, I guess. Bit disappointed now that I have learnt about 50megpix mode having some clever bits of 'jiggery/pokery' for images, and did wonder if those 8192x6144 images (around 20megs) were in fact genuine, but overall, great stills, especially when zooming in on a section of a 50megpix image on a photo editor). At present, the only real worry are the screws for the propellors, it is SO EASY to damage the coils inside each motor should the screwdriver slip, when changing propellors (which I did a lot in the early days - well a few months ago!), and the other gripe, i guess, is when downloading for example a 5 minute video in full HD (3840 x 2160 30fps) from the SD card to my phone, it can take that long that I lose the will to live, so find that the only reliable way is to quickly get the SD card out, and download from it direct. I am so so glad though that I chose the Autel evo nano plus, and their spare parts (propellors and battery etc), are so so quick to order/arrive from their excellent autelpilot.co.uk (in fact just recently I ordered a spare battery (genuine one too) for far cheaper than the likes of people on ebay would charge. Just hope to gawd (as final thoughts) that this drone does not go down in price, which they all do, as I am still going to be paying for this till 2025 lol. All the best Andy in the UK
that is certainly a double plus no geo fencing...
I like the addition of a cooling fan.
Not included in Mini 3 pro, and DJI should scrap Geo-zone 'No Fly', its is a pain in the rear end.
the Geo-zone is the reason I am considering the nano+
They won't.... if anything it's gonna become MORE restrictive over time
Most important is the no BS restrictions. Thats the main feature!
Great review and kudos to Dave :)
I recommend David from South Wales Drones too, he got me air units when they were like rocking horse shite!
I recommend the Skyfire Aerial mount for the controller. Well made, reasonably priced, and really makes the controller a whole lot better!
Love the app review bit, very clever.
The mini 3 will smash this out of the park 😁 Will be cheaper as well 👌
Yeah and have better support....
Autel is even worse then dji!
Geofencing though fuck...
Except it didn't and it's not. Cameras still way better than this and so is the range.
@@gianlucaalessia5538 true but DJI quads just plain FLY better
@@Matanumi well since I posted this, dji mini 3 has had a lot of updates lol. Not only does it fly much better and actually have a usable tracking, but they've improved video quality quite a bit. Nit sure it's still at the level of nano + but almost. But the Nanos camera is irrelevant if you can't take great video bc of how it flys lol. So ya, I'd say the many pros far outweigh the slight difference in camera at this point
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw your 1080p60 samples, they're terrible. The 4K is pro drone quality while the 1080p60 looks like it's from a toy drone. Thank you for being thorough
Out of all the Nano+ reviews that I have seen. Your review seems like it provided more detail about this drone. Thank you. 😉
good looking drone. I have one and there is many problems with the gimbel. unable to move the gimbel in flight. worst purchase ever. DJI will always be better.
Ian, Sky Fire Aerial makes a really great mount for that controller if you have not seen it already. I use all their stuff since way back when you reviewed their Mavic Mounts when they were called Evolution3D.
It is a great option for a new small drone and Autel are really improving. Im concerned they don’t or won’t try to compete on price with dji. Dji will bring a new mini 3 out and compete on features and price and this drone will likely lose out. The mini2 is an excellent drone and flys so well and is 33% cheaper will still compete with this drone on the shelf. It was a very fair and well thought out review thank you for that.
Hello i wish you could help me I don't know which drone should I buy if the nano plus or the Dji Mini 3 standard not the pro, I had the mini 2 and never had a problem or issue but I like the nano plus but people has said that I had problems with connection or problems with the return home and some other things can some one helped me please
Special edition see through drone would be pretty dope.
Lots of great features but the object sensors struggle hard when flying towards the sun. They really need to address this.
good drone as i have one but not as good as mini 3 pro for follow me with obstacle avoidance and nor is the camera, but no geo fencing is better
I was going buy one! when first came out, but! i have a mini 2! so i was expecting nano+ to be better, but at best its only as good, but not really, as it's windy here too.
i would like to see mini drone a lot faster /more aerodynamic/ and i dont think i need the obstacle avoidance sensors. They just add weight. /( maybe mini FPV may be better) only this time make it usable without having use goggles as more to carry! and gets unwanted attention ..........
This drone is definitely better than the Mini 2
9/10 needs more power loops.
Too Pricey for the average RC flyer... IMO. Almost twice the price of the DJI Mini
It IS twice the price of the mini 2 in some places with the premium bundle
AND it flies like trash in anything over a light breeze.
Since Christmas the price has drastically dropped although however now it's hard to find I think autel will exit the consumer market like parrot did
They want to save weight huh why don’t they just use that stuff they found at the Roswell ufo crash 😅
they say it almost had no weight 😂😂
Because its not available to the public
woohoo!Mad's-Thanks,this is orgeous -
You are the pilot the responsibility ALWAYS lies with the pilot.
is this PX4 based, or proprietary flight stack?
A very thorough review for sure.. so glad that awesome user let you take 1st peak at his drone..
nice, been waiting for something to beat dji in this space,
might have to get one of these gps things...
hey mads, could you share some of the 50m pixel photo it takes?
I bought one of these a few days back and have had 3 opportunities to fly it so far. I am a still photographer, so the still capabilities and image quality were the primary factors for me. One additional complaint I have is that as nice as the controller feels in the hand, it is big. Bigger than the drone. I travel a lot for work and ride a bicycle, so portability is important to me. (The reason my full size EVO hasn't been used much). I would have preferred if they had included folding grips, as on the original EVO. The multi charger can be a little fiddly when trying to set it down with all 3 batteries on it, but that's not a biggie for me considering how tiny that charger is.
I mean all the controllers now are gonna be big. Look at DJIs RC N1 - its needed for the battery
Amazing review dude!
Thanks for this intensive presentation and critique of this drone! I just ordered it yesterday. I had to truly weigh the pros and cons of this drone before I made my decision. As a hobbyist, I had to consider the future of my use of these fabulous devices! The weight, the features and the limitations had to be factored carefully. I currently own other EVO and a DJI drone and considering where I live also weighed heavily on my decision. My DJI drone will not even lift off in front of my home even though I can get FAA authorization up to 100 feet. This infuriates me to no end! At least now I can fly up and get some good video and pictures without having to leave my home. That is BIG for me! Thanks again for sharing your views on the Nano+!
the cons were far too much on this model for me to ever consider spending that money
are you happy with your nano+?
Fantastic review!
I'm watching this at 1 month after posting. In that month the DJI mini 3 has been released. I'm very keen to see you compare the two side by side. Do you think you'll be doing that..? 🙂
No comparison really. The mini 3 has a larger sensor, costs less and other then the top and bottom sensors the dji has a much more refined app. The pro controller bundle is still cheaper then the bundle of this one. Not heard great things about this one but, don't take my word for it. just have a little scout around in reviews and you'll see 👍
@@mrph678 Geo-zone sucks.
Might be dumb question, but wondering if camera drones transmit live feed at high resolution, why same HQ tech isn't used on FPV's? Is it only because noticable latency of live feed or what?
What does prevent us to transmit live feed from eg. GoPro on system like DJI air unit / HDZERO ? Why doesn't it support HDMI input cameras. (So we can use same camera for both cinematic and FPV live feed.)
It’s all latency. There is always a trade off in IQ and latency. Adding anything in like HDMI will add 100ms to the link.
@@MadRC I like Herelink system you have reviewed earlier. As I don't mind extra 100ms I am wondering if there is any similar but lightweight air unit solution for sub 250 arducopter builds. I've seen SIYI HM30 too, but all air units I've seen that are supporting HDMI/IP cams are 50+grams
5G will change all that! 5G will give you even 12K live feed in low latency. 4K in real time around 10ms. 1080p 2Ms. and so on. Applications 1ms. 5G will change how we fly and how hardware are built.
@@InteractiveDNA Well, I am speaking about solutions that would just work independently in wilderness. It is hard to believe that every rural corner on earth will be covered with 5G. If it does, it won't be quick transition.
@@InteractiveDNA not sure but if I remember it right 5G is not allowed fo be used by drones.
Autel is a joke compared to DJI. Not even close to being in the same league
Not really. Picture quality seems to be a generation ahead.
@@szoe139 everything else is trash.
plus the picture can be oversharpened.
@@Matanumi What is trash?
@@szoe139 the competition....
Autel is the only one that can compete.... and even then they struggle
From all the comparison reviews I've seen, the Mini 3 Pro vs. the Autel Evo Nano +, the Mini 3 Pro comes out on top.
There are a very few abilities where the Autel is superior, but they are very few.
Overall, the Mini 3 Pro comes out on top, & with comparable kits, or by itself, the Mini 3 Pro is still lower in price too.
I'm so glad I bought one!
This little drone in HDR mode beats Mavic 3 in 10Bit mode with ProRes. I watched in a calibrated 4K TV and a 8K television and people could not believed the image was from a small drone. The video of HDR that I watched was from this channel:ruclips.net/video/9p4VvU3hr7Q/видео.html try it! Try any Mavic 3 footage and try this one in a 4k and 8K TV. Just incredible! Note: The Lite is the same drone but bigger, not the Lite+.
Does the drone still have problems in high wind tho or stutter image i heard some of the autel drones are still suffering with this problem.
@@silverpro8356 Both have been fixed, none of those problems for almost 2 months now
Great video 👍 one Question. Will it do follow me ?
Thanks
Yes it now has active track in the latest firmware update and Log for videos.
Must've got a beta version bc the rest of us are still waiting
Autel are definitely on my watch list! This thing ALMOST ticks all my boxes but like you the 1080p60 problem is a bit of a deal breaker... It's also very hard to actually purchase here in AU and a tad pricy too - only one online store in my state! Hopefully since they seem to almost have a quality down pat they'll soon get picked up by a larger retailer and will really start to give DJI a run for their money!
Also - I REALLY don't understand the fixation with flying these camera drones via smartphones and all the damn glare... I would buy this in a heartbeat if they provided a HDMI output or a decent set of goggles (FFS DJI WHY so much incompatibility??) ! Hopefully the upcoming DJI Mini 3 / FPV Mini will finally make this possible! (But then again it's DJI... will probably require V3 goggles...)
Because its cheaper to use your phone as a screen
@@Matanumi That's debateable - My DJI FPV goggles (best available IMO) cost me less than my last (flagship) phone purchase a few years ago. Besides, adding HDMI output capability to the controller would cost them peanuts in the scheme of things and there's plenty of cheap FPV goggles available with HDMI ports!
