    Our DJI Phantom 4 Pro just malfunctioned and did a fancy loopty loop at 50 feet from the pilot and nose-dived at the ground. Thankfully it didn't damage the cars at the dealership it was supposed to shoot. We can't go a few days without doing some aerial shots and this Nano fit the budget. Our fingers are crossed hoping it will fit our needs as we wait for it to arrive. Toes are crossed too.

    Great video. I have a Nano+ but concerned with the Nano+ and Remote ID requirements when flying under Part 107. With the extra weight it will decrease flight time and put additional FAA requirements like registering the drone.

    Great review Chris. I agree on several things you mentioned and disagree on others but that’s just me. Other than that, solid review. Btw, you mentioned that you can decrease the sharpness in the Autel Sky app. Where do you find that setting? I didn’t even know that it had a sharpness setting in there.

    Great review - I purchased just before a cruise and used to take some fantastic video's and photos. Loved the way you downloaded the videos direct during flight, but have to download photo's taken after the return home. However, I had same issue as you and lost connection around 600m out - Autel said as I was behind rocks. The drone never returned and It took me a while to get to where it last was, and never found it - I traced back along the path it might have taken but could not find. When I got home Autel took the downloads I had and said it might have crashed into some trees - but as I said I did check and height for return should have taken it back - Autel has however provided a replacement at a discount - so happy overall - but a bit of a nightmare.

    Great video again, yes I love the Autel Evo Nano Plus Drone, the images and video quality are awesome, and bought my first one (white) last July, and then a space gray one and then a standard orange one much later (why a man needs 3 is beyond me!). - but the offers (all in) for the latter two, were a must 'not to avoid'. The remote control also feels solid, and the recent update in May 2023 has great active tracking. The actual bag supplied with the wonderful drone, is too tight overall, but not too much of a problem. The other reason I fell in love with this drone was, having owned, what was meant to be the flagship DJI phantom 4 pro (in 2018), I found the definition from the images and videos for the autel evo nano plus were genuinely far superior in every way to the DJI P4 Pro, for example, when wearing a t-shirt with logos or wording on, it was impossible to make out the logo or wording from just 200 feet up with the DJI, and yet clear as could be with the Autel Evo Nano Plus. There are quite a few videos on you tube which show side by side video comparison between the Autel Evo Nano Plus and its' obvious competitors, and the comparisons clearly show Autel to be the winner here. Greetings! My Nano+ just arrived & is charging. If you’re interested, I’d be happy to share my experience with it

    • @user-vu8nf2zm2p
      @user-vu8nf2zm2p Год назад +1

      So here’s an update on my Nano+ experience so far. First off, this is my first “real” drone. I was given an ‘el-cheapo’ $10 micro fold quad drone that I’ve used to learn & crash. That sparked my interest in developing a new hobby in drones. I searched for USA hobby drones. I found several but they are out of my budget & I’d be stupid to spend that much loot on a first drone. After days of searching & watching hours of RUclips reviews I decided on the Autel Nano+. I bought the Nano+ on eBay for $500 it was new, in the box & original shrink wrap. It arrived within several days & was (as far as I could tell) in perfect condition when I unboxed it. I went through all the preflight calibration & setup. Everything went well until I started the (critical) firmware update. That failed miserably. I contacted the remarkably friendly & helpful Autel CS & they determined the unit I bought was assembled so early in the production of the model, it would have to be sent to their repair facility for them to do the firmware update. 😢😢😢
      BUT I just had to fly it. I think the controller felt good & solid I didn’t have the problem screwing the sticks in that others have mentioned, although I do think that’s a pretty stupid design. The batteries charged quickly & the calibrations were easy & worked well. I flew it in slightly breezy conditions in my small, wooded back yard at dusk. It was very stable, hovered dead on despite the variable wind speed & direction. It was very responsive to commands and it avoided the bushes, fence & other obstacles as I blundered my way around. The low light video was impressive too. It returned to home & landed within 2 feet of the actual home point. It may have done better but I had to override its automatic return or it would have flown through a giant oak tree in the yard.
      I’m still waiting it’s return from the repair facility. But I have to say that the Autel customer service people have been remarkable. Their response to my questions was immediate. They were helpful & friendly but warned me that I may incur a repair charge. I was emailed when the repair facility received it. A day later got a really nice email saying that they would repair it under warranty (otherwise, it would have cost $679)
      I’m assuming they just replaced the drone itself. I’m expecting its arrival in a couple of days…
      So, the take-away from this is Autel’s Customer Support is awesome!! Something, I think is very unusual to experience these days.
      Once I get it back & have time to play with it (and crash it multiple times, I’m sure) I’ll post another update if y’all think this was helpful.
      FWIW, in the interim, I found a deal on a VTI Vivitar Phoenix at Walmart for $130 (normally $270). It’s been a pretty good learner drone which I’ve crashed multiple times, gotten stuck in 2 different trees, & paid a tree climber more than I paid for the drone to get out of the first tree it got stuck in about 60’ off the ground. It has been good to learn on as it has no obstacle avoidance, isn’t terribly stable & the camera is unacceptable for anything outer than seeing where you’re going. Its RTH function is good but the second crash happened when it got low on battery & smacked into a pine tree while it was heading to its home point. That one broke 2 of its feet & dinged the props. But a little glue & it’s still flying

    After the update 1.8. the colors are better. The RC/Video range is good. 5G signal ispenetrates objects badly.You can't change that and large metal objects are best avoided with any drone!.
    I hope autel makes the nano even better with the new updates:
    More Speed, quicker descent, quicker descend/acend during forward flight. Wind resistance could also be improved: The Nano plus is unnecessarily slowed down by the wind/side wind. Find the drone could be also better: the gps singnal from RC is not always displayed accurately.

The camera on this Nano+ is best in class IMHO. I have its direct competition (Mini 3 Pro) too. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I'd love to put the Nano+ camera on the Mini 3p to have a near perfect sub 250g drone.

    The premier kit easily fits in the bag with the sticks attached on the controller. Try turning the controller around. Make sure you remove the cable. I even fit my filter kit in the bag and extra props and screwdriver. It all fits. Why do people keep futzing around removing their sticks? They should stay installed.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Год назад

      I don’t leave anything to chance that I don’t have to with this stuff because, as you know, this equipment is expensive. Unless I have a case that has a space dedicated to fitting the sticks (i.e. cut outs for the sticks to breathe while in storage), I’m taking them out. Last thing I want is something getting broken because the stick was catching against something in the case and the controller moved in the opposite direction too far.
      You could probably fit the controller in the bag without removing the sticks, but the case simply is not rigid enough for me to see that being safe for the long-term health of the controller.
      Thanks for the comment and for watching!

      Good question - in my opinion it depends on what you use them for. If you’re mostly posting to social platforms like Instagram or TikTok, the Mini 3’s portrait mode is absolutely suited to that type of content creation.
      However, I’d say the EVO Nano is on par with the Mini 3 Pro and Standard in every other way. Autel’s camera systems are fantastic and the maneuverability, battery life, and extra features make it a front runner in my mind.

      It’s scary as hell. In the end I’m glad that the drone did what it was programmed to do - RTH. Peace of mind that it didn’t just fly away to who knows where over who knows what. That said, it’s definitely something to be aware of when using Autel. Great vid, like your style. I’m thinking about moving on from my original Mavic Air to this. I know the Nano would give me better flight time, quieter props and better camera. I’m just concerned that I would miss the power and sturdiness of the Air. 40kmh winds are a frequent occurrence where I live, and the Air handles it no problem. BTW how fast is the Autel? TIA.

    • @TheDroneGeek
      @TheDroneGeek  Год назад +1

      I understand your concern! I don’t have enough sample data to tell you for sure if you’d miss any power when switching over from a Mavic Air to the Autel Nano+, but just looking at their spec sheets, you may feel a difference.
      That said, the top speed I reached with the Nano+ was around 32mph with a tail wind and 29mph with no significant wind resistance. Both speeds were achieved in “Ludicrous” mode which is akin to DJI’s sport mode. The Nano+ held its own in the air, even on windier days. It is still a sub-250g drone, so it is going to get blown around a bit in higher winds, but I didn’t notice anything so egregiously bad that I thought less of the Nano+. It’s a really great little drone, so if you did switch from the OG Mavic Air to the Nano+, I have no doubt you’d still be very happy when flying!

    Regarding your comment re: "colour bleed". This isn't a fault specific to your Nano+, from what I can gather, the colour science Autel developed to correct the RYYB sensors terrible yellow colour cast in RAW has not been engineered particularly well, causing a green/magenta bias as a result. If you concentrate, you will find that the Nano+ camera also produces some really distressing magenta/yellow moire artefacts as well (RAW as well as JPG). I had the Nano+ by choice and even though the camera is the bare-bones of something that could have been genuinely ground-breaking: Autel have dropped the ball by not properly polishing the jewel that they produced.

    Thank you so much for asking & it just shows just how kind I’m certain that you are for asking, “what’s up?”, because it’s been a long hard week already and it’s only Tuesday can you imagine that but since you asked, “what’s up?” I will certainly tell you that things could be better but then they could be worse also and isn’t that always the case with life ha ha no matter what’s happening it could always be worse and no matter what is happening it could always be better, although there was one time, in fact actually there’s been a few times in my life where when somebody ask me “what’s up?” I could actually tell him that things couldn’t be better, “what’s up?” is that things are going so well but then I stop and think you know I suppose something else great could happen and things could even be better so to answer your question “what’s up?”, I’ll begin by saying things are actually looking up kind of like Paul McCartney wrote that “everything is looking better” and then the severely negative John Lennon wrote, “couldn’t get much worse“, which means obviously that Paul McCartney was an optimist and John Lennon was a pessimist and we all certainly all know that therefore if you were to ask them “what’s up?” considering they are two people which certainly fills out the definition of guys plural, they would say what they said in that song which they wrote many songs in their career but can you believe they only wrote Beatle songs or actually all the Beatles songs they wrote were before they were 30 years old which really is astonishing therefore if you were to ask them “what’s up?” they would have been all over the road from the beginning to the end of the Beatles career yet you ask me “what’s up?” and I can tell you that things are looking pretty good, I’ll come back later to finish answering your question but thank you so much for asking that question.
