    My first 747 flight was in September 1970 from Heathrow to New York in one of Pan Am’s as a five year old that was when the aviation bug really bit me and I fell in love with the Jumbo. Later flew on the famous Qantas QF001 from Heathrow to Singapore via Bahrain in 1978 when my family lived in Singapore. Great memories of Qantas and the 747.

    It’s a shame that the 747-8 program never really thrived. Four engine aircraft are just became too expensive to run compared to the new plastic big twins.

      The majority of the 747-8’s are freighter versions because frieght is much more lucrative than passenger service, and the 747 is still superb in that role.

    Trivia question for the plane buffs. Qantas had 2 747sp’s. Under what other livery did they both fly while part of the Qantas group ?

    • @Johnboydownunder
      @Johnboydownunder 3 года назад

      For a short period of time (1994-96) they had "Australia Asia" livery to try to be appealing to the JapaneseGold Coast customers. It didn't work so it went back to standard livery.

    • @neilc7101
      @neilc7101 3 года назад

      @@Johnboydownunder The name is correct but the reason was to appease the Chinese. Qantas had flights into China and wanted to do Tiawan as well. The Chinese govt wasn’t happy so the set up Australia-Asia airlines. For some reason they sometimes used the aircraft on the New Guinea route as well.
