    Really wanted to love my 1st gen Mojito, but no matter what I did I couldn't get it to sit straight on my head, the brow was always cockeyed! It makes for a great winter helmet with a cap underneath, but for summer, drives me mad. Bought a Catlike helmet , and whilst light, it's a real mushroom and very noisy in the wind. Great review and I'm pleased to see the winner is exactly what I've got my eye on!

    +1 for the Protone padding - I've glued mine back on a couple times before I've lost it all (and cannibalised lost pieces from an old one I crashed). It's a bit annoying as it's not exactly comfortable with no padding back there... I've still had 3 of them (one trashed) though! Also, I've got my last 2 -and one for the missus- for under $130 each, which is an absolute bargain. Pays to look out for those (Pushys) sales!

    Nice comparative review, James. Bought a Valegro just recently, mainly from a ventilation perspective. (Coming from a POC Octal). Couldn’t be happier, as far best bang per buck. It’s lighter, well vented, comfortable and reasonably decent looking. As far the other Kask helmets go, I could never wear the Mojito as the fit never suited my noggin. Love the look of Protone, but never been able to get a good price for one (thankfully, as the venting sounds like I would die). And the Utopia is very niche and looks like a Stormtrooper helmet paired with some white framed 100% S3 Sunglasses.

      Cheers Andy! Glad you've jumped on the Valegro bandwagon. And I totally rock the Utopia with a pair of white Oakley Sutros. I'm all-in on looking like a weirdo!

    I have the large Protone, it is amazing helmet, fit well but allow for winter cap under.
    I purchased the Mojito X in the same size and it much tighter, and the strap around the ears are much higher, pinching my earlobes.

    Thanks for all this, very helpful! How about noise levels? I just got utopia and it's fairly quiet, much better than the hurricane winds from bell stratus. But I think louder than the bontrager aero I used to have....didn't fit right though....velegro is loud?

    Been a Mojito fan for years now. Glad you raised the reflectors but I own 3 Mojitos and the reflectors have fallen off all of them. I find them in my bag, on the floor or never again. Great idea but our friends at Kask need to work on their glue. Other than that, a top helmet.

    Hey great video as again I am back in the market, one major flaw on the video there was NO mention of safety which is the main reason for a helmet I mean do they use mips or which is safer or stronger etc

    Very personal review, which is quite normal. Owned and used / tried all 4 helmets. My ranking would be: 1. (by far) Protone 2. Mojito (used the first version, not X), 3. Valegro, 4. Utopia. I personally prefer the comfort of Protone and Mojito versus very strange "padding" in newer models as both Valegro and Utopia create marks of wear on your forehead. I'd say, Protone is one of the oldest helmets in the pro peloton still comparable with much younger helmets.

    Amazing how different the Australian weights are! I've had both the Protone and the Valegro (UK / EU models), both in medium, and they were practically the same weight (215g and 208g after trimming the excess strap length). I was a bit miffed, as one reason for buying the Valegro was to save weight over the Protone! The stated weights on the Kask website are meaningless, no indication of what region they apply to. I wonder though, if the Valegro can meet Australian safety standards by weighing practically the same as the EU model, while the Protone needs to add almost 100g to do so, does that mean that the EU Valegro is safer than the EU Protone? Could the EU Valegro actually be the same as the Australian one, and conform to Australian standards (even if it's not certified?).

    Hi I have 2 Kask helmets, a Vertigo C50 (2015) and a Valegro (2018) love both helmets for different reasons, however I have a 60km road race on in 2 weeks time where my average speed will be approx 32kph, the course had approx 550 meters of elevation with 2 rather larger climbs, top speed on the descents will be approx 65kph. Which helmet do you think would give me the best marginal gains eg aero, weight, ventilation etc, the Valegro is 70gms lighter than the Vertigo but I suspect the Vertigo may be more aero?. Love your vids keep them coming. Cheers.

    • @JustRideAdelaide
      @JustRideAdelaide  5 лет назад +1

      G'day David, to be honest I think weather is more of an important factor for your helmet choice. There will be an aero difference between the Vertigo and Valegro but it'll be minor and only make a material difference if you're on the front or solo for the whole race. I'd say wear the aero helmet if it's cool weather or the Valegro if it's hot. Good luck!

      Can't comment directly because i haven't used one. But agreed, they look badass. I have a friend who has been on multiple sponsored teams and she says the Met is her favourite helmet. All that really matters is that you try it on first to make sure it's comfortable and fits.

  • @shaunogle530

    I find my Utopia is an all rounder. Comfortable and unless you are riding uphill for hours and fast a match for the other helmets. As a specific tool it’s a cycling helmet designed for riders of all abilities. As for front dents in forehead ,so what ,all helmets are want to leave impressions and you can always slacken off a tad. Yes it’s expensive at full cost but mine cost same as protone. In short, differences are subjective and as a previous Mojito owner - 4 years - the Utopia, even given its grandiose and inaccurate name, is a much better product all round.

    Safety? I love my Mojito. It's the mist comfortable helmet I've ever owned. I'm considering buying another one. Kask has MIT safety system while other brands have MIPS. Your thoughts on which is safer. I've done some research. Still unsure

    • @JustRideAdelaide
      @JustRideAdelaide  4 года назад +1

      The independent testing seems to indicate that MIPS/SPIN/WaveCel equipped helmets are safer. It's such a hard thing to really gauge because there's the basic standards set by countries/regions, then what manufacturers choose to do on top of it, THEN further verification and independent testing. In short: these are all probably less effective at protecting your head than a helmet with in-built safety system.

      Australian pricing is bonkers! Helmets especially because we have our own helmet standards that mean manufacturers have to make helmets especially for Australia. So they're more expensive, and heavier.
