    Anybody else notice the whole engine bouncing up an down when cranking/running? Possibly missing engine mounts allowing the oil pan to support the engine? The crank hitting the oil pan could be the cause of the metal in the oil and the noise... Neat revival!

    It was just Yesterday I got a call from a long time friend I haven't hung out with the guy since before I left 4 Iraq. I did call him a few times told him I am into rescuing and restoring old trucks. He used to joke about finding his old 69 Chevy PU that had the 4spd transmission. We called it Elvis because when he got Elvis circa 1980 is when guys like us started to get our drivers license and this thing was sitting on a gas station parking lot at the corner of an intersection a better part of year 4 sale everyday after school Jimmy would try to cut a deal with the gas station owner to buy the truck. For one the economy thing was happening back then everyone was stepping down to smaller trucks and cars. This thing had a bad motor so Ole Jimmy got a 283 someplace back then and stuck that in the thing painted the truck white on top black on the bottom and it had one of them old camper caps. It had two Elvis is King bumperstickers on it. That is how it got it's name Elvis.
    Sure enough down the back of Emmaus Pa. Jimmy had certainly seemed to have found Elvis. After closer examination going 45 feet down an embankment in someones back yard which turned out to be a guy by the name of Scott Higgins came up to us yesterday because he was out cutting grass. We asked if the truck was his. He said no it's been there since he bought the house in 1999. We asked if we could buy the truck. He said buy it hell everyone wanted to charge him to get back up the embankment. Ya see there is small narrow but friggin really deep creek between Scotts nice level yard and the street out front so the truck would have to go back up the embankment. I called my old friend Roger Rabbit the tow guy from that area and he sent us his newest recovery truck and for $200 pesos he hauled the Elvis clone back up to the upper hiway from where it had been pushed or driven into that little ravine then straight to Jimmys house. Elvis II needs a grill and bumper which Jimmy totally shocked the hell out of me he had already ordered a bumper grill left front fender and hood from Brothers Trucks.. The thing had some sort of critters living in it so I served em eviction notices when we got the Elvis clone to Jimmys house I pulled the doors off it with his help of course. It's gonna be a nice resto. It does appear both the trans and the rear is bad the motor seemed to have some work done to it as well so we might be able to save the motor in it once we find out what it is... . It had fresh shocks and front bushings in it too back when. The shocks still looked pretty good so did the A arm bushings. Its not a 4x4 truck it was 2x4 hot rod back in the day and this truck has no traces of the side pipes the original Elvis had side pipes. I helped put them on the original Elvis when I got home from boot camp in 1982. Its gonna be a nice build the 30 some years it may have been off the road saved the frame is in super shape. The cab mounts and cab floor not. He ordered that stuff from brothers trucks and it should be here on Friday along with my shit for Holley Anne (1988 Ford High Boy) from LMC.... I just located a rebuilt 4spd trans for Elvis at a salvage yard near by here where I live. Its dicey whether or not its the original Elvis. It does have hooker headers which Jimmys original Elvis did have hooker headers. When he gets the crap and mold off the dash board that will tell us if it is in deed the real Elvis. Jimmy had carved Karens name in the dash above the ash tray with one of then engraving tools. Jimmy is mechanic for a living so this should turn out to be interesting to see if this is the real 1969 Elvis C10 PU that belonged to him. Jimmy sold Elvis when Karen got pregnant with Jr. the summer of 1991 Elvis no longer ran it had a bad fuel tank as well as other worn out stuff. This is gonna be interesting.as hell...By this mornings conversation Elvis will be getting a pressure washer bath today and the seat fuel tank and dash will come out of him...

    Was that a rod knock or was it the flywheel? The engine was jumping up and down as you was cranking it, so I am thinking that was something other than rod knock. Also the ignition timing needed to be advanced as it was firing too late.

    • @97delkron
      @97delkron 2 года назад +2

      i was thinking same thing. i would try addressing clutch and flywheel before writing off that engine. i have seen folks write off an engine due to loose flywheel bolts more than once.

(it had been stood for years)..and gathered at the lowest point of the combustion chamber..so..as I turned the motor over..it effectively stopped the pistons from getting to TDC...thought the engine was fubar..till I lifted the heads...phew...relief!
