Man the crowd was so dead lol. Even i was singing along and laughing my ass off at what he had to say or sing. Gosh i wanna hear him and em battle. I think thats been one of the most wanted rap battles in hip hop history.
Jin had a great stage presence, but he seemed really nervous perhaps bc of being in an academic space. Jin, if you're reading this, you're great no fret about that-- really loved seeing you grow and mature into the person that you are. :)
Jin is underrated. All that confidence when people wasn’t reacting and laughing at his jokes took a lot of heart and confidence. Still to this day, I love his Perspective Record. The MySpace Album he put out. He is teaching us literally of EGO vs Selflessness. That’s why he was so big in Hong Kong but people were sleeping on him in America.
I've been following Jin almost when first recall comin across his champion battles on napster in 2004 , guy popped up from nowhere n just tore everyone down, battle after battle ,this guy's a prodigy, sent such a uplift moment for the whole Asian community worldwide. Thought he was gonna b the next Bruce Lee next Jeremy Lin, big thing, hiphop having the global influence at the time . Then I moved to HK to settle, n Jin just showed up again on local tv loll. Boy...was it a long journey! Best Wishes for Jin n his fam.
oh damn napster.....i used to do the same thing ahahaha....man those were the days....yeah Jin was awesome ...what was awesome about those freestyle days was how they could switch up the beat on you and the good ones like Jin could switch up styles real easy on the fly.
MC Jin ... won 7 times on BET 106&Park, named Hall of Fame, released his record & get into the billboard tops. He is such a humble guy ... earned my respect
I met saw Jin at a Sushi Restaurant in NYC in like 2005/2006. I saw him go outside so my friend followed him and asked me to go. He was outside by his Mercedes doing something and my friend asked for a pic. We took one, I got one. Real super nice dude, I am happy to see he is in a good place now.
Not many are blessed with the ability to articulate and be concise, but you have done an incredible job of expressing and summing up your journey in 17 minutes. I just wanna say congratz. we are proud of you @iammcjin
5 years later and I’m just now seeing this. Probably got suggested because I was just watching old Jin battles the other day (Verse never stood a chance 😂). Glad I watched this though. Real humble guy. Jin definitely stamped his spot in hip hop in my book.
I first found Jin back in 2003 when I heard "Learn Chinese" and I followed him since. He's an incredible emcee, but more importantly, an incredible human being.
Never in my life did I imagine seeing Jin go from Freestyle Fridays on 106&Park to TED talk. Good stuff. I wonder why he didn't talk about Crafty Plugz though...
Man I really wish MC Jin would have blown up he would have turned out so much different with way more success but like he said he didn't put it on anyone and instead looks at the future so Jin is honestly such a good guy I really think he was destined for greatness that's too bad.
I love Jin, and I follow his story. But I feel like watching this just wasted time I'll never get back. I say that because I know there is so much depth to his story, his rise and fall, finding The Lord in failures, etc. With what Lecrea did in his TedX talk "Heroes and Villains" was spectacular. Maybe Jin was just nervous, but I feel like people look down on folks like his kind', so they don't expect much like "what can we learn from him?" All in all it was good watching him and Lecrae too on the stage. They're representing a culture and generation of changing perceptions.
I wanted to hear more about his time in Hong Kong. He said he grew the most during that time. I wonder how it was like for him as an American rapper to adapt to the culture and entertainment industry in HK.
myk09 we love him, hes the best rapper who can rap in chinese, no one can beat him and hes funny af. His chinese raps are kids friendly and funny so he got really popular and everyone loves him, he left hk cos his wife got preg so he had to go back to america.
Yougi G The lack of enthusiasm from the crowd is because of their age. Older millennials are more familiar with MC Jin because he made it big as a champion on 106 and Park's Freestyle Friday in the early 2000s. He also had a bit part in one of the Fast and Furious movies around that time. Most of the students in the audience were barely in elementary school when MC Jin was making a name for himself. Unless there's some hip-hop heads in that crowd, a lot of them won't know who MC Jin is. I still remember when I downloaded all of his Freestyle Friday battle vids off Limewire back in the day. Good times!
Back in high school around 2004 and later Jin was definitely one of the guys who I listened to constantly. Like maybe it was an Asian thing I had but I really felt his music back then. Listened to Thai Viet G , Snacky Chan, Smilez and Southstar, and Yung Mac. It was good times in my ears though.
the dude's a freaking legend man, I just don't know how he didn't become like one of the most famous rappers of all time, cuz the first time I've heard about him is on rap China中国有嘻哈....
He was smart, funny, quick thinking and interesting combo of his american and hong kong way so he got really really popular in hk. Especially when his cantonese raps were funny and kids friendly, TV/entertainment loved him! Hong kong entertainment hates profanity and negativity so jin came in as a breath of fresh air and the perfect comedian.
This guy is nothing but humble! Much respect to you MC Jin!
@@Dragon_Gaming2020 How come? I don't know about him :D
@@Dragon_Gaming2020 the heck? you're lucky to be alive, quit being rude
AZ.K tf you talking about ,don’t talk about a person you don’t know
@@Dragon_Gaming2020 why??? Because he’s Chinese and is a talented rapper who won 7 times in a row for freestyle??
Agreed
MC Jin is one of the best person in hip-hop culture inspiring others to believe in their dreams.
This is inspirational. As a Lao-American rapper, you're the reason I started this journey, and it's been quite good for me. Thank you.
He's got such a great personality.

Jin had a great stage presence, but he seemed really nervous perhaps bc of being in an academic space. Jin, if you're reading this, you're great no fret about that-- really loved seeing you grow and mature into the person that you are. :)
Naw man, the crowd was just dead, they couldn't relate unless he had a starbucks cup in his hand
Much love MC Jin. You will always go down in battle rap history as a legend and pioneer in my books.
One of the most likeable persons in the world. Thanks MC Jin!
Jin is underrated. All that confidence when people wasn’t reacting and laughing at his jokes took a lot of heart and confidence.

One of the Best TEDx talks! #
He could have been more famous. I think the audience really have no idea who he is, and what is hip-hop.

Love this dude. he's crazy humble
MC Jin still sick with the lyrics and flow, glad to see him still doing his thing.
I met saw Jin at a Sushi Restaurant in NYC in like 2005/2006. I saw him go outside so my friend followed him and asked me to go. He was outside by his Mercedes doing something and my friend asked for a pic. We took one, I got one. Real super nice dude, I am happy to see he is in a good place now.
if jin came out in the era of youtube fame he woulda killed!! man had bars for days and the best punchlines
I am a Jin fan but I gotta say he can still come out right now with some new stuff so let's just see what will happen.
Not many are blessed with the ability to articulate and be concise, but you have done an incredible job of expressing and summing up your journey in 17 minutes. I just wanna say congratz. we are proud of you @iammcjin
One word for this guy - Talented!

5 years later and I’m just now seeing this. Probably got suggested because I was just watching old Jin battles the other day (Verse never stood a chance 😂). Glad I watched this though. Real humble guy. Jin definitely stamped his spot in hip hop in my book.

Never in my life did I imagine seeing Jin go from Freestyle Fridays on 106&Park to TED talk. Good stuff. I wonder why he didn't talk about Crafty Plugz though...
Kevin Phu I've seen it before. I was 8 years old when all that happened. Even his old song, "Learn Chinese" was a hit.
Dude used to be signed to a label way back.
So much respect for you mcjin.
I loved JIN
Man I really wish MC Jin would have blown up he would have turned out so much different with way more success but like he said he didn't put it on anyone and instead looks at the future so Jin is honestly such a good guy I really think he was destined for greatness that's too bad.

The crowd was dead early in the morning, bunch of squares. He tried mad hard to hype it, I give him credit.
the audience at TEDtalk are bunch of sad people or they just dont know who he is
They definitely don't know who he is
they are uneducated people living in their own bubble
