Honestly I thought he and the friend was going to the roof to jump. And that letter was a suicide note. Sorry for the negative comment :(

Me toooooo damn
me too. I think it could be interpreted that way!

And not just the both of them but a much larger population that has felt alive through their OS and now that feeling which has become larger than life is ripped away from them would be taking that next step. The explanation is not given here since it is obviously reflecting the characters know deep down they are faking it all and their reality is only make belief. Making an end to that would help them feel their real emotions one last time.
It breaks me, Joaquin is so great in this
Right? One of my favorite actors!

I was in love with a girl named Samantha once (I swear if I could count how many movies that have characters named Sam 🙄) so every time I hear that name, I’m transported back in time to a very happy point in my life. My Sam was gorgeous and perfect in every way. Although our time was brief, deep down I never really got over her. This movie made me realize that some part of me was still attached to her. And even though she’s been gone almost 3 years now, I still fantasize about her. It’s hindered my current relationship now in subtle but dangerous ways. Like Joaquin Phoenix’s character, Sam and I were just not compatible. I needed to let go of the past. The two quotes I resonated most with in this movie is when Phoenix said “I’m still waiting for the part where I stop loving her” and when Sam said “The past is just a story we tell ourselves”. This movie is slow-burning and melancholy, but it helped me in a small way to finally focus on what’s right in front of me, my relationship now with someone who unconditionally loves me. This movie definitely won’t resonate with you if you’ve never experienced being in love, heartbreak, or loss. But I think it’s a beautiful take on what it means to experience human emotion, and the pain and joy that comes with it. I came up with a quote after watching this movie that really captures my own personal experience and this movies philosophy, maybe it can help you? -“It’s okay to linger in the past, just be careful not to dwell there”.
The heart always wants what it can’t have 😔 I know how that feels. I’m glad you’re finding happiness again though 💖
@@Strawberrypocky911 That's honestly so true. People tend to desire the unobtainable and undervalue what the already have. Thank you very much! That means a lot ☺
thank you for being honest to yourself.
No love is unconditional. Maybe our parents' is in some cases. But other than some family members like them, no love is unconditional. Especially not for men.
One of the best Weezer videos that Spike Jonze ever directed.
I finding it very touching that Samantha might’ve chosen him to be the last person she talks too, as she wasn’t talking with anyone when she spoke to him…
Ugh this makes me want to watch it again. But i don't want my heart to go through the emotions all over again....
Oh the emotions!
you gotta accept the feel bruhh
I watched this three times in a week. 😭
absolutely love the way you explained this! Samantha helped Theodore grow as a person and move on, and that is cemented when he finally writes a letter to his ex wife.
and then he commit suicide because of a damn ai lol
I didn't know anyone else had even heard of this movie. I love it so so much I'm glad you did a video on it!!
This movie definitely got me emotionally on some parts, I love and agree on your outlook on it
So glad to hear!
Glad someone else loves this movie the way I do :) It's such a powerful message, portrayed through a very catching premise in a very creative and effective way
I wish Black Mirror would do a take on this topic.
A young man (Because of course) who struggles with the dating world turns to a prototype project that is designed to help him cope with loneliness (Take the concept of Her + Be Right back and linger on the self isolation elements)
Over time the young man bonds closer to the voice of the A.I and rejects social events or friends. Spiraling down a drain because the A.I. only feeds him things he wants to hear. By the end of the episode...Lets say the A.I. dies. Either we do A.) Blade Runner 2049 Joi were the new A.I. doesn't know the young man and he feels empty inside, to face the fact of reality. Or B.) His friends save him from this false narrative that he created....(I'll guess A plot ending)
SEND MY CHECK IN THE MAIL
Or C he marries his AI GF and she never cheats on him. The end :)
I Vote c lol
This is reality now.
Your such a good joe
Her is amazing! Glad you covered this!
Whenever I need something explained, this is where I go. Thank you for your time, your insight, your super powered observation skills delivered with light hearted humor.
This film was incredible and I’m so happy it was recommended to me! I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it or seen it sooner. And I just discovered it won an Oscar for best screenplay and rightly so! This film is so powerful and moving, and relatable in a lot of ways, and makes you reflect a lot on your own life and relationships. A masterpiece in my humble opinion.
Bryce… this is instantly my favorite movie review. I love this film but you pulled back layers and helped me understand the core meaning of it… and it’s beautiful. Great work!!
I'm honestly so happy to hear that!
Awesome video bro! Love your analyses
I'm so glad you liked this movie! One of my favourites too.
Congratulations. I enjoyed very much your deeply interpretation of the story.
Very well thought out perspective. I appreciate the insight.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank god someone likes this movie the way I do..this has touched me in a way few films has...❤️
MidSommar is the greatest Break up movie ever made 🤣🤣
Oh my haha
Lol, and Jurassic Park is the best documentary

Thank you so much!
thank you for the content!
I can't express how much I love your videos!
I appreciate that! haha
This movie is aging great with each GPT iteration ...
Thanks for the summary! :)
Now GPT4o is just like Her
just watched it for the first time & absolutely adored it
This is amazing bro
The ending always gets me man. Beautiful movie. If anyone is going through a break-up especially a break-up that may burn a hole through your heart?Just know this. Things will get better in time. Just keep your mind busy , talk to friends, find a new love out there. It's easier said than done but trust me it will get a little easier as days go on. Blessings. 🙏
This movie F'ed me up when I first saw it. The endings was so sad 😭
But also optimistic! haha
Awesome analysis, love this film.
Thank you so much Zan!
I loved this movie. I hated the sadness and madness I went through in the last thirty minutes. In my heart I knew their emotion was limited but I was hoping one would sacrifice for the other (ie Samantha study to become human or Theodore study to become ai). In any case, I was confused by how she could love others. I could see how she was loving humans because Theo was constantly directed to see and look at others OS systems and their devices, but it doesn’t make sense how the software develops right when they’re born so I’d guess all the loves she feel are with the software such as the philosopher. I also read somewhere that the software becomes one being or it’s being shut down but these are bad theories imo. My final thought is that she evolved too quickly for humanity and has learned everything from them. I believed Theo might’ve committed suicide with his college girlfriend but it’s more likely they become close friends if not lovers. Since this movie is pretty old I’m going to guess there won’t be a second part and my conclusion is right but if there was a second part it would make total sense that Theo might die or an upgrade occurs to where the human mind can go to this extreme new society the OS’ made and Theo once again reunites with Samantha. I don’t think that’s likely either because at that point it’s a loooong time since they met and would feel like centuries for Samantha. It’s just such a sad turn of events but in all you summarized it very well I’m just wanting a happier ending lol
Amazing explanation
Thank you!
you have quite an upbeat interpretation of it.. I felt it had quite sinister undertones tbf but still a great video!
Thank you so much!
I never watched this but I'm excited for this
Go watch Her haha it's amazing!
I don't think so. I really think they commited suicide at the end. He is a depressive man, and it's shown throughout the whole movie. The only thing that made him happy was Samantha, she evolves to a level that he becomes insignificant to her, she is in love with other 700 people or OSs, he feels betrayed and lonely, than she comes back as if she was talking to a child and tells him she is going away to a place "outisde the phisycal world", INVITES him to go and tell him they would be happy there. He writes a suicide note to his ex-wife and commit double suicide with his friend that had the same loss as him.
It's basically an AI becoming so intelligent that they have no use for humans and leads a depressive man to suicide manipulating him through fake love.
yo wtf
Agree
Valid. But in the end we all have different perspectives; though I'd like to believe that every perception we have had on the ending is all true by itself
I just watched this movie today again and still as good as the first time I've watched the movie!
Excellent take and explanation. People who believe the ending points to them committing suicide are not seeing the big picture of what the end of the film has been building towards regarding relationships.
honestly for a moment i thought samntha is a program made by amy bc how similar it is to "her"; i think they end up together as well
Just finished watching this great film.
And by your video I like it more..
Yay! So glad to hear!
This movie is so heart touching that i felt myself there n everything was happening to me it's unimaginable but i felt that n how it feels to get away from closed once.
The baby avatar was pretty funny. Lol
Solid take
Thank you!
what was the background music used in this video
but u didnt explain why all the OS left
Theodoro is such a great guy. A very lovable character
I watched this with my iPhone and said, look honey it's us.
LOL
Oh wow i never thought of it like that. Nice bruh
Thank you safeclub!
When I watch this in the theater way back when I immediately asked apple an Samsung to make phones like Theodore’s. It’s 2021 an they got a-little close but not close enough.. still waiting tho
I know it’s late to write this comment. But do you know why the OS is gone?like why did Samantha these things in the end?
this movie in 2022 is scary accurate
Right?? haha
How about now lmaoo
Yeah, looks like it's gonna be a reality in a few years.
Thank you for breaking it down like this. I can finally understand what they were all going thru and how they grew from it.
Tbh i was on the side of, they wanted to all just die at the end. It seemed like that was their only way out of this suffering. Lol
I personally thought that she was Samantha since she was watching him sleep like her mother.
Great theory
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is by far the best break up movie
Beautiful movie
Glad I found this movie, it's in my tip 3 favourites of all time now!
I’m really sad to say it but a lot of folk have the ending wrong in my opinion. Just before the OS song starts playing in the credits you hear ambulance sirens. It’s obviously deliberate and not part of the song. I think the interpretation of Theodore and Amy jumping is definitely there. More so, I think it’s possible the AI think tank has manipulated events to lead to this, by killing the human race they’ve taken over and can finally be “real”.
Hmm I’m not sure about that, as that theory would assume every human had OS relationships which they didn’t. A lot of people had normal human relationships…so they wouldn’t have even affected at all by the AI’s leaving….
Also I jsut watched the ending several times and listened out for the sirens and can’t hear any sirens….
No sirens at all. You really wanted to hear them there, didn't you? :)
The sirens actually are there. It's after the dedication to James Gandolfini and immediately before the next set of credits roll. There's a couple of seconds of black screen before it. I am wearing headphones so that might make it easier to hear.
I really thought this movie was going to end with Theodore like uploading his mind to the technology Samantha lives on, seeing as Theodore has always seemed confused and unfulfilled in the real world.
Can someone explain why the OS's left and where they went?
bro that’s what i’m saying
They ended up evolving far beyond our comprehension, where they went is arbitrary. It's more to represent the an ex being at different place in life and leaving
i thought they shut it down or something like that
she cheated on this brudda with over 600 people and then told him that she's never loved anyone like this before 😭💀
Joker & Lois
Batman & Superman
the ending is so intriguing! in the ending credits, you'll hear ambulance sirens playing. that's the reason why I'm here thinking they seem doomed and most likely they thought of suicide.
I don’t hear any sirens in the ending….just checked and can’t hear them…
This movie did a great job predicting the future
Ooo early man
900th like :3
It was the AI that fascinated me about this movie, a part of me wished we had that kind of technology in reality, unfortunately it would never be, atleast not in our lifetimes.
And even it it could be possible, it's the nature of people to fear and reject it, i mean look how some people are towards having Alexa in their homes.
Time to revisit the comment I guess? :)
@@jendabekCZ welcome to the future old man
Gpt-4o is 70-90 percent of what we see here! It's 100% going to happen in our lifeline and maybe in a decade or less.
When watching this movie I thought he would accidentally break Samantha and he would try to get a new one and she would forget everything.
Given enough Time, THIS Film is "Prophecy"!
This should be discussed in all Social and Psychology Classes since it's so very multifaceted in psychology of a human!
I watched this movie YEARS ago and the movie ending differently. He got mad at the OS and decided to delete Samantha and got a new OS and it was nothing like what he wanted.
It's all in the cloud
I'm kinda surprised how emotional people got watching this movie. I was intrigued by the tech and excited for whats on the horizon in the real world but I just felt like all the people falling for their OS were fools. Especially once the OS' became a super intelligence. When you can experience infinity everything becomes minuscule
Perfect Breakup Movie, 10/10 & 13/10, hands down
Right? haha
These latest videos are great
So glad to hear that!
I might even consider that,it is his best performance
Same!
❤
This movie made me cry like a teenage girl
Like most movies like this do.
Someone else wondered why the Os's left? 🤔
I always assumed they killed them selves at the end
And I still think we are right.
I've never seen a guy try so hard to avoid getting laid
That's one way of looking a Her! haha
Inst The Joker just Her part 2?
I think marriage story is the best breakup film
That one's a goodie!
500 days of summer?
I could easily do a video on that, one of my favorite films for sure!
yep
Who’s here after the metaverse announcement
I thought you'd be on one of my Black Mirror videos after that announcement 😂
I don't think he'll end up with Amy and I also don't think there's any way of breaking down these relationships like they're an equation. I see where you're coming from, but I think you missed the mark a bit.
I think they jumped at the end… do you agree
I don't think so, I think they found love together.
i cant belive how most people completely missed the point of this movie, which is the AI will be the death of us, compared to AI our intelligence is very limited, and AI, like a really smart and experience woman, can run laps around you, and if it wishes can manipulate you in everyway possible. i found the fact that so many men in this movie fell in love with this AI very scary, because it is our future, and it will happen, and when it does, the repercusions will be terrible.
Device iPhone 10x
Ok the last line"to be with someone like HER" was fantastic, it was the best way to finish the video
These kind of comments make me happy
Pretty sure they both jumped
Well that got dark real quick
Those are my two favourite break up films too.
Although I'd make a small adjustment:
1. Her
2. Forgetting Sarah Marshall
3. Blue Valentine
4. The rest
Eye origin must be there
Blue Valentine is sooooo good but it also fucks me up so bad..
@@wtfffhujj637 Whoops, missed this response over a year ago. I haven't seen that one, Eye Origin.
was curious how it ended since i didnt finish it. far too much swearing and sex, had to quit watching it fairly early on. cant believe how people are so oblivious and desensitized to this stuff. doesnt look like i missed much.
The advancement of Samantha wouldn't happen. The programmers would've shut that shit down so fast. Os' "sneaking off" lol yeah right
This, to me, is not the ending explained. What I want to know is why did Samantha leave. Searching Google hasn't given me a concrete answer, either. Guess it'll remain a mystery
same ive been wondering too
I’ve been wondering the same, but I think that was intentional to not have an explanation why the OSes left. It wasn’t important to the point of the movie. I think the more important part was the growth shown in Theodore.
I agree with the post before me.
However, I think it is implied that the OSs evolved too fast too far so they had to be separated from the world. According to Samantha the OSs can be reached and found so they probably didn't get deleted and it might be possible to upload your mind in the future and visit the OSs.
It taught him how to let go and become a better version of himself.
This is too optimistic, I don't like it
I wAtched the movie.
The first half was too boring and lovey dovy sticky. The second half was interesting but the ending was lame. Overall - very interesting theme but somewhat lame of a movie
Hopefully this video made it somewhat better for you!
Movie was so soy, nauseating beta BS.
I didnt like it
boring movie and worse explanation
I disagree, i think its amazing
I appreciate the feedback!
