Fun fact: the forget-me-nots (or don’t forget mes, if you’re evan) changed color not because of the heat, but because of the pH of the soap! the pigment is a natural pH indicator :)
Oh cool! Often purple pigment does change to green under heat so I assumed it was that at first, but that’s cool to know!!

Very, For context stainless steal melts at 1400-1450 degrees f, an egg frys at 158 degrees f.

That’s why I started watching their videos. But after a while they inspired me to start making things I never knew I could. I’ve even impressed myself. You should give it a try some time. You just never know what you are capable of with just a little time, effort and the right materials.
Don't forget you can likely do most everything they try and do by joining your local maker space.
To be fair to Katelyn in regards to the popsicle bath thing, it's currently a heat wave where I am and I totally have eaten a popsicle while sitting in the shower with cold water raining down on me like.... and if the popsicle drips on you it's not a sticky problem, you just... wash it off 😂

19:45 I beleive the reason for the flowers turning "green" was because they contain a compound that changes to blue under basic conditions. Under acidic conditions it would become pink.
Ahhh that's super interesting!
Yes! They're called anthocyanins and they're also present in a variety of fruits and vegetables, especially the purple ones. You can actually use red cabbage juice as a pH indicator because of the anthocyanins. They're also pretty healthy. ^_^ I still wouldn't recommend eating (or drinking) soap, though. Perhaps just stick with blueberries.

What you could do with the soap is chop them up and put them in a gemstone mold with clear soap so you'll be able to make multi colored gems 😍

One of the labs for my organic chemistry class was making soap but we synthesized it from lye and oil. It was pretty cool and it isn't as hard or dangerous as it sounds with ingredients like acids and bases.

@@EvanAndKatelyn It would probably melt if there was enough of the resin. I think what might be more interesting is "Treasure" Soap, where you could hide a little resin charm or something inside the soap and you have to use it up in order to get to the surprise.
That's also the thing about making soap. You don't really have to clean the equipment afterwards, everything is already soapy, you just have to rinse it :P

The forget-me-nots might have also reacted to the alkaline nature of the soap, not only the heat. There's so many plants and vegetables that do that, like hydrangeas or red cabbage :)
And the reason that tea looks like part dried flowers and part coffee might well be because there's aromas in it, I know that that's often granulated and added to stuff like fruit tea (at least here in Germany) :)

If you ever do venture into Cold process soaping... I think you would love it. It's addictive! I got a kick out of watching you two play with colors, scents and textures. It reminded me of when I made my first few batches of cold process soap. With soaping, the sky is the limit. It's artistry meets science. I always say that it's baking without the calories, since I love to bake as well. I'm glad you enjoyed the experience! The melt and pour soap is soap that is already saponified, and that is why your olive oil did not absorb into the liquid of your "pizza" soap. People use melt and pour to skip that saponification process, [the danger of mixing lye and liquid], so they can just add color, scent, and mix-ins and get instant gratification. Cold process soap takes a minimum of 4 weeks to cure after you make it, but it is SO worth the wait! If you ever want to try cold process, and have any questions, please feel free. You need to be very safe if you attempt it, and you want to start with a simple recipe first, [no fancy colors, swirls, additives]. Thanks for sharing your experience. 👌👍😊 PS...love the supervisor's approval!

Mostly Oregano tbh, probably some garlic powder
Maybe somerosemary if you feeling fancy

Oregano, basil, rosemary are the three most common pizza seasoning ingredients, plus some mix of fennel seed, ground pepper, garlic, onion, paprika, red pepper flakes, lemon zest, and I've seen small amounts of brown sugar or sea salt in some recipes/premade blends as well
19:44 it’s not actually a temperature reaction, but a pH one! Forget me nots are a pH indicator, & they turn that bluey-green color in more basic environments! This extends to the type of flowers they grow depending on the soil pH!!!

So I found your channel a couple of days ago and I’ve been watching random videos, I’m loving them all!
Don’t think you’ll ever see this comment BUT, the moisture drops you guys showed at the end are (from what I’ve heard from my aunt who makes melt-and-pour soaps) basically the soap “drying” up, getting rid of all the moisture in them, to prevent this sweat you have to individually wrap each soap with something like plastic saran wrap, making sure the wrap is in contact and covers all the surfaces of the soap 🤷🏼♀️
Is no one going to address the fact that the rose changed color as well through the video? Just a observation.

I had a job making soap (with lye), bath bombs, body butters and scrubs, shower oils, laundry soap, shampoo bars and sooo much more for a small Lush-type store for a year and I looooved to. It was so much fun. But yeah, Lye is scary 😂

Well, maybe they did. Most people put their failed attempts behind the camera! You can imagine how many videos they couldn’t post because something went wrong. It’s amazing how they keep up their schedule anyways! But of course, nobody is perfect!

Most people put botanicals on top because they wash away quickly and won't be likely to mold that way, and can also be easily removed if you don't want soggy flowers on your hands.

PLEASE DON'T USE CATNIP OILS PLEASE PEOPLE YOUR CATS IF YOU HAVE THEM THEY WILL LICK AND MAYBE EAT THE SOAP AND FLUFFY WILL TAKE A VERY VERY VERY LONG NAP
Also be careful with tea tree and other essential oils near cats and other pets, they can be toxic to them

Most quality soap is entirely edible apart from a bad taste so even if a cat or dog or human licked it, they would be fine
