UPDATE: After we wrapped up the shoot (~10 more minutes) we did one more test and they key bent and almost snapped! The heat had decreased the resin's bending modulus (stiffness) 😲 Thank goodness we did the test fast and got Katelyn out 😅

Just a small recommendation in the future if you have a project that requires a smaller needle: when I worked in a veterinary clinic and we needed to syringe-feed thicker foods, we loaded the syringes from the back instead of trying to draw them up. If you take the plunger out completely and hold something on the tip to keep it from leaking (take the needle off first of course) then you may be able to pour the resin into the larger end. Air might be an issue but if you fill right up to the top of the syringe before you put the plunger back on it should be minimized. Regardless, thanks as always for letting me vicariously live out my resin dreams, and keep up the great work you two!! :D
Alternatively take the needle off, draw the resin, then put the needle back on.
I was also going to suggest to remove the needle from the syringe when drawing up solutions.

I thought of switching needles between filling the syringe then filling the mold with it. Like they could use thick needle to fill the syringe then switch to thin needle to fill in the mold
@@a7xmaNga or just fill one syringe with another, no need to pour, draw it into the one that works, squeeze it into the smaller one, used to do this if resin was too thick for a fixed needle syringe..

Hey Evan and Katelyn!! Pro tip for needles and syringes from an RN. The syringe is a luer lock, so you should be able to take off the needle, fill the syringe with material (resin) and then put the needle back on. It helps decrease air bubbles as well and its easier to push out stuff from the needle than it is to suck it up. As long as the particles in the liquid are smaller than the needle they should go through (albeit slowly).

Cool video, as always! Pro Tip: if you heat up your buckets of resin and hardener before you pour, it will thin it down to almost like water. When I made epoxy river tables, we'd aim a small space heater at the jugs for a couple of hours before we poured.
This will speed up the cure time, and cut down on your working time before it starts to set up, but makes pouring into small spaces a breeze!

Most syringes have removable needles, you could've filled the syringe with a bigger needle and then switch the needles. And then squish the resin out of the full syringe with a small needle :D

I use this stuff quite a lot for making impressions and stuff, because it’s so much easier, and I will tell you that the clamps were unnecessary. This stuff works like playdoh, and as long as you fill the thing you’re using as a container (if you have one), it would be completely fine.
Also there’s a way to make it not stick without mould release: curing the halves in two stages. So step one is putting the key in one half, but leaving the other half open and blank, letting it cure completely, and then putting the other half over the top to fully cover what you’re trying to mould. Once this stuff is cured, it doesn’t even bond with itself, and you can just take the two halves away from each other without stress. To make it easier you can also make cuts or imprints to keep the mould pieces aligned when using together.
A great practice for doing this is a penny. It has enough detail, is small so doesn’t take too much of the product, and won’t get stuck in the mould, due to it being metal. Another fun one to try with extra stuff you don’t use is a thumbprint or fingerprint (make sure the silicone putty you’re using is skin safe if you do that).
