I feel like that entire thing needs to be redone. That gravy looked like gelatinous flour water. I gagged a little. First, you should barely be able to see your gravy for pepper. And not that crappy pre-ground pepper. Pepper you grind right into that gravy; black and white if you're up to it. Also, sausage. Spicy-ass sausage. I don't know about syrup anywhere else, but not here in Texas. And I agree with everyone else. Apple butter. Personally, I don't know anyone that does jam. We're all about preserves round here. But that may be a regional thing for me.
That gravy looks suspiciously like that stuff you make with just Crisco, milk, water and pepper because you didn't have any pork drippings around. It's basically vegetable dairy glue for biscuits.

Dude...it’s not a question of brand. It’s a question of recipe. Real mac and cheese does not come in a box. No southern cook is going to use boxed mac and cheese. Ever.
Pro tip: after cutting your biscuit to prepare it for gravy, put it on the plate upside down (inside down???) This is especially helpful with plastic forks because it is much easier to cut through the crispy party first and then the inside fluffy will easily tear apart as the fork goes through
Also, orange marmalade...I don’t know if that’s truly considered a southern thing, but I’ve lived in the south my whole life & have always enjoyed some orange marmalade...& homemade peach marmalade!😋

I am ashamed of them to not have ALABAMA’s own Golden Eagle!! We don’t even have maple trees down here. So why even put that in the running??
Best toppin I’ve ever had was homemade peach preserves. I’ve looked for store bought and can’t find anything. Second is apple blossom honey.
Apricot preserves too
You gotta try pear butter
Oh yeah peach preserves rule!
My Paternal Grandmother used to make Japanese pear preserves from a tree in her backyard, and it was
the only thing I have ever had that would be better than Peach preserves.
Vermont Country Store.
y'all did gravy dirty by doing plain gravy instead of sausage gravy, but y'all also did me dirty when you didn't include apple butter.
Growing up in Melbourne Australia; as an after school snack; my nanny (grandmother) made lemonade scones (that’s what we call biscuits) with jam and fresh whipped cream on top and I still love them
I'm a Southern, and I made biscuits when we were stationed in Las Vegas... everyone went crazy over southern biscuits. We do have the best!!
@2:25
“Bone ape tit!”
-Matt, 2019
I'm depressed now because im realizing I've watched all the bless your ranks. I'm also craving biscuits, and Matt's humor over food...
Am I the only one who thinks it should be fixin’s not toppin’s?
Exactly. You don't top a biscuit, you fix a biscuit. No one says "top me one of them biscuits while you're up." They say "fix me one of them biscuits while you're up." Lol
For me, toppins' is for ice cream.
@Feels Good Man 😂😂😂 You forgot the "Honey,..."
@@autumnlindseyart "I'm a fixin' you a biscuit, what toppin' you want on it.
I think they did that for the non southerners
Love me some chocolate gravy, but I didn't hear no red eye gravy, or tomato gravy, or sausage gravy, BUTTER, is a must with any of the above....
“It’s like eating a chubby waffle” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The list is not complete without either golden eagle or alaga syrup. And you don't put honey, jelly or syrup on a plain biscuit, it has to have butter on it.
Butter+honey
Butter+cane syrup
Butter+butter
And the biscuit has to be warm!
No. Wrong. The butter is put on the plate. Honey (or molasses) is poured over the butter. The two are mixed by mashing with a fork. Then, the mixture, which can only be referred to as ambrosia, is spread over the hot biscuits. And, yes, you will reach for another bicuit to sop up any leftovers.
My favorite fixin's for homemade biscuits is homemade butter and molasses. My grandmother made her's in a wood cookstove in a cast iron skillet.
Love from Arkansas
I would wear a "Gravy's gonna do what gravy's gonna do" t-shirt.
My Great Grandma made home made chocolate gravy for breakfast any time we visited her in WV. Fantastic. Think of warm chocolate pudding over toast or a biscuit.
Sausage gravy and biscuits.
This is my favorite Bless Your Rank I’ve watched. Really made me smile.
Where were the molasses? I thought for sure they would be in there somewhere.
You mean: Where's the Sorgum?
@@therebelgrimm6556 you mean: where's the cane syrup
@@MrBenHart I would even like to see golden eagle or Karo......
It's not even country without molasses.🤦🏻
The Rebel Grim and Ben Hart are having that age old feud already. The Hatfield's and McCoy's are at it again. Can't you hear it? It's Sorghum! Naw it ain't, it's Black Strap! Thems fightn' words around heah.
Do you mean to tell me that a SOUTHERN channel rating biscuit toppings DIDN'T include Sorghum OR Apple Butter?
DISGRACEFUL.
You should complain to the producer. I'm sure she or he has finished that bowl of Cream-of-Wheat by now and would be willing to consider your complaint. :D
Thank you! I was also wondering about sorghum... That was a staple in my house for biscuits. 😊
All media is inherently yankified just a fact of life
Y’all missed blackberry jelly
Blackberry is the best. I was sad when I saw the purple jam was grape.
Omg, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks they should have used blackberry jam!
One of my favorites my Grandpa taught me was sour cream and strawberries. But I agree with the chocolate gravy--it's beyond awesome.
Do what now
And who said biscuits are only for breakfast? I'll eat 'em at any meal
"Open carry" your gravy!!!! I love you. Needs fried chicken on a biscuit, thank you darlin'.
Chocolate gravy is AMAZING my mawmaw used to make it. I think it was a WWII food because of rations. I wish Cracker Barrel sold it. I need a shirt that says "Body by Biscuits"
😍 You Matt!!
Butter those biscuits, ya heathens! And fix that gravy!
No fig preserves? They’re in a category all their own.
Biscuits and gravy are an ART! We demand a rematch with the REAL STUFF!
Karo, Sorghum, Golden Eagle, and the big one CANE SYRUP!
That gravy looks suspiciously like that stuff you make with just Crisco, milk, water and pepper because you didn't have any pork drippings around. It's basically vegetable dairy glue for biscuits.
Me too. I am from the North and I never heard of Maple syrup on a biscuit! AND, That white gravy looked nasty. Looked like paste. Where was the pepper and sausage bits? Even a Northerner was disgusted by that white gravy. Shame Shame Shame.
I preserve the jam 😂
Matt is too dang cute in this one😘💜
Loved when he did The bear mitt voice.
He should consider doing voice overs for Disney. 😇
He should consider Stand up. He'd make millions.
Jack is clearly a Yankee. Jack ruined this Bless Your Rank. Jack needs to be removed from the South and his cast iron cookware taken from him. Gravy must have sausage and pepper, unless of course it is accompanied by a chicken fried steak. Thems the rules Jack.
I thought sawmill gravy had sausage, and all the black pepper. Even when on a chicken fried steak.
I swear I grew up on my mama's homemade bread and chocolate sauce as my favorite breakfast of all time!!!!
"If you're sitting at home and you're ugly, guess what... 2020 is your year." Man, the foreshadowing in that one
DO A BLESS YOUR RANK ON THE BEST BRAND OF MAC AND CHEESE.
Dude...it’s not a question of brand. It’s a question of recipe. Real mac and cheese does not come in a box. No southern cook is going to use boxed mac and cheese. Ever.
Dude no need to shout. Also boxed Mac and cheese sucks. That is coming from a northerner.
Pro tip: after cutting your biscuit to prepare it for gravy, put it on the plate upside down (inside down???) This is especially helpful with plastic forks because it is much easier to cut through the crispy party first and then the inside fluffy will easily tear apart as the fork goes through
What no. You might as well have not opened it
@@kayann3523 I'm not sure who you are... And im okay with that lol I do have a dozen or so vids on gravy and biscuit though if you wanna check em out
Monsters and Murderers: Terrifying Tales of Biscuit-Eating Atrocities. I'm calling it now, it'll be a best seller.
Also, orange marmalade...I don’t know if that’s truly considered a southern thing, but I’ve lived in the south my whole life & have always enjoyed some orange marmalade...& homemade peach marmalade!😋
Honey and butter is my choice. I will do strawberry jam or blackberry jam if either is available too.
How you gonna sit there ranking southern biscuit toppins with no cane syrup
Yes Karo and butter!!!
Karo???? Oh no! That corn syrup simply won't do. Real cane syrup molasses is from black ribbon sugar cane. So good it's an approved libation in the south. Then there are those cretins that shorten their precious lives eating that sorghum molasses. Oh the humanity! They get a lot of "Bless your heart's" from others.
Whomagoose right only real diabetic inducing cane syrup will do 😂
That dent in the wall is driving me crazy.
“Soapin’ up...” Nah, it’s soppin’ up in Eastern Kentucky.
Virginia, also.
“ This isn’t all sugar. This is at least sugar plus a biscuit” 😹😹😹
He liked a northern staple. Maple syrup on a biscuit was a yummy treat we got when I was growing up in Vermont. Also had the best fresh maple syrup as my family owned a sugerhouse.
Anyone else constantly think there was something was on their screen because of the backdrop?
Yes, thought I spilled my sweet tea on the screen
@@tabithamashburn8786 I tried to clean it off, but it wouldn't go.
“Honey bee tree” cause that’s a thing
I’m like Matt, but when my gravy sits out too long, I resort to ... congealed carry.
“jams…jellies…preserves…mushy fruit” 😂😂
I’m from the north east (Pennsylvania) and I can proudly say the gravy is easily the best toppin for biscuits
I swear if Applebutter is not in the video, this channel is based out of LA
Lower Alabama?
UCLA- The ugly corner of lower Alabama
Maybe he means Louisiana!
You should have included sorghum in the ranking.
He ain't old enough to know what sogrum even is
@@suzieq9009 Hey, im 28, and thanks to my grandpa, I love sorghum! I have lived a few years in the city to get my degree, but I came back to the country! I do accounting work, but heck, I love me some good ol' cornbread hoecakes with some sorghum!
“I don’t know how honey works” 😂😂😂😂
Thank you, sir. As a Kentuckian, dropping the "g" is a must. Love your videos!
You need to do one where you decide what goes better IN a biscuit. Country ham, sausage, chicken, or bacon.
"Don't try me.... just don't" rofl
Now l want bear paw mittens for Christmas 🐾🐾!!
Ps. When l make biscuits & white sausage gravy (always Jimmy dean sage sausage) , l always make extras to make dessert with biscuits & honey or biscuits with butter & sprinkle of cinnamon & sugar lol 👍🤗👍

I could eat Braswell's fig preserves on a biscuit every morning for the rest of my life 😋
Bamafan2 figs fasho.
Yesssss its shockingly amazing.
Same! The closest to my grandmother's
I for real don’t even understand the concept of putting syrup on a biscuit. Wrawng wrawng wrawng
💯 behind the chocolate gravy… you just made me miss my Mom. Thanks man!
Chocolate gravy is best when hot and adding a slab of butter that runs down and mixes. As a tradition we would have biscuits and chocolate gravy when the family would get together Christmas morning. One toppin that wasn't mentioned was we used to add brown sugar and butter to a biscuit. Nice way to eat. Good times back then....
