  • You know how Grandma always hides the best candies at the bottom of her purse? Yeah, that's what Matt's trying today. Between Werther's, peppermints, strawberry candies, and even licorice, Matt is gonna decide which candies hold a place in his heart as the best.

This Bless Your Rank made me miss my Gram, who was my roommate in her later years until she passed away in 2011. We kept a cute crystal ashtray as the candy dish and she would keep it filled with all sorts of GOOD candy like Jolly Ranchers, Peppermints, Butterscotch, Now & Laters, Buckeyes. She got the candy from the bins at the grocery store and would fill up a bag of different kinds of candy; being mindful of things that not only she liked, but others as well. She would make up little candy bags to take to her friends at dialysis for the week and give me a candy bag to take to my students for the week. She would always make sure to buy me a few Pixy Stix. I miss her sweet face so much. 🤗❤️💫✨

My maternal grandma typically didn't have a lot of candy around, but it was usually the jelly fruit slices or the jelly spearmints, both of which were pretty weird. Either that or the sugar free hard candies and peppermints, all mixed up in a bowl.
My paternal grandma, on the other hand, had the BEST candy I have ever had in my life...chocolate fruit sticks! They were bright and fun and I haven't had one in 30 years, though I have only ever seen them in old fashioned catalogs.

Some restaurants used to have them by the cash register, too - in a dish with a little serving spoon. I adore those! Not all are created equal though and I am on a quest to find those REALLY good ones like I used to get at the drug store as a kid. (Mom often kept a dish of them and would have to chase me off them.)

As a grandma I still use all of these, including the licorice. Andes is sold at WalMart, well in Texas at least. As for mints, I also have soft mints that I carry everywhere. My grandma also had a TON of redhots in her candy bowl :D

Should have swapped out the black licorice for butter mints. Either way, still love Bless Your Rank. So funny and cute. Also, the caramels were the way to go minus the soft ones haha!
