- The second half of the North American Enduro Cup doesn't go quite as smoothly as the first half...Stages 4 and 5 of the NAEC are pro and expert only, so the difficulty has definitely gone up, and there are more obstacles that need avoiding...

Nice patch job!! Although not nearly as nasty as yours, it reminds me of when I got a inch slash when road riding years ago and was 10 miles from home. Found and used a empty ketchup packet from the side of the road to patch my tire. It held until I got home.
Awesome, whatever works!
Hats off to you Man. You completed the race, many probably didn't.
Congrats. Sometimes "Not Last" is a good outcome!
Thanks for bringing us along and reliving the weekend through the editing process for us!
Thanks for this! I find it odd there's so few channels that do this, properly commentated enduro races. They are so entertaining to watch, especially when they honestly include all the struggles and stresses of racing and preparation etc.
Thanks! These are definitely my favorite type of videos to make 🤘
Way to persevere. I’ve always felt I get more out of overcoming adversity than I do from a good result... But never right away, it’s always later one when I reflect back. Hopefully you do too!
I'm definitely happy I pushed through and finished. Its just as memorable fixing the tire with a gel pack and limping down than it would have been to be on the podium!
Man.. That track is so beautiful
The MTN ate tires that weekend like Godzilla...one kid parked next to me lost both tires in one run! Excellent finish bro!
Both?! That's rough...
Good content again mate, I might be doing this race next year!!!
Balls to the walls, you rock.
That race was gnarly
Congrats on finishing the race! Way to persevere! Look at the bright side you kept the rubber side down😜🤘🏻🇺🇸
Great vid! BEEN waiting for this upload. Glad you made it across the line even with all the mishaps. That just means getting a better time in your next race will be even easier😌😌😌 keep rocking dude
Hey I have never done a enduro but have raced gncc and other local xc races on my quad.
You kept going and that is what matters. Sometimes mechanical issues happen. You did good man.
Hoping to trying my first enduro sometime in the future
Great job buddy... I'd love to try an enduro someday, but I'm gonna have to travel pretty far to find one... those dont exist where I live... only XC Races here... 😒
Loved the series it was like the every person's enduro vlog! I totally plan on doing it next year coming from oregon
You should! Fair warning, it very rocky haha.
Your vids are the best you need to post more!!!!
Well done, mate. So impressed with your patch job, they do say necessity is the mother of all invention; you proved that was true.
Great video, great filming too. I'd love to do something huge like this, if only once, what an achievement to complete it, kudos to you.
BMX bikes (and more importantly, my old Huffy) had nut protectors (foam on the top tubes)
Congratulations on completing the event! Get job avoiding the DNF with ah sketchy patch.. 😂😂 The final stage looks soooo tough..
Enduro racing is hard
I always keep gorilla tape with me just for such gashes. It works better than one would think. Just need to take extra steps to get the edge pinched with the tire bead. Can put a strip inside the tire and another outside. It will hold enough to get you down.
I usually stick some in my pack but I was out 😭
@@TheShredist I wrap several feet of it around the small pump I keep in the pack. Could even wrap it around the bars or somewhere on frame. Not forgetting the bars or frame at home!
Nice! Surely with a tube or can that be done tubeless?
@@rpiian either one. Gorilla tape is super sticky/grippy. Need dry relatively clean surface for good bond but once bonded it's really on there. Not foolproof but I've had good success with a couple gashes. Enough to ride back down anyway.
@@TheRicardoSanchez Solid!!
Dude, a van update would be mint...
I've never tried it, but I've heard a tube pushing up against a folded dollar bill works well for a patch job!
Thats definitely a solid solution, I had no cash on me lol
I would LOVE to do long, multi-day stage race.
Great video man. Looks brutal. I'd do it but not finish as well as you did. I learned not to cook myself on the pre-ride watching these videos. Probable not possible to pre-ride and not cook yourself...
Yeah that was the unfortunate part. The 3 stages we needed to practice had a massive amount if climbing to get to. Might have been worth riding stage 3 blind to save some legs...
Lmao at nut protector. Honestly, I wish you could still, somewhat easily, get bike pads like we used to have!
Brilliant videos and fantastic results, perseverance pays off, thanks for sharing!
I actually have / had the bike you currently have in the form of the Calibre Sentry. Unfortunately, after just over year, the locating screw for the rear mech has pretty much disintegrated along with the adjacent Aluminium and that seems to have happened to quite a few of these bikes. I have an exchange choice, swap to an N9 or get another Sentry Pro… I would prefer the latter as I love the Sentry, but I’m concerned about longevity again. How does the N9 compare to your current bike?
The N9 is a great bike, but the only reason why I'm not on it this year was the sizing. The XL fit perfect minus the seatpost height, and the large would have been perfect but the reach is more like today's medium. It rode amazing though. If you haven't already, check out my review on it, I break down my thoughts on it better than I can here lol.
I am signed up to race round 2 of the Cascadia Dirt Cup at North Mountain. I signed up for the Expert Class but am wondering now if I'll have the endurance for it. I might need to go down to the Sport Class.
Now that wouldn't be the advice you wouldn't want to hear from a coach, "Don't Race, just try not to Die."
Bummer to destroy a new tire. I just ordered a new set myself, I was trying to milk out a few more weeks, but a jagged, crescent shaped puncture wouldn't accept a plug. It would have been a waste to even put a tube in since the tread was so worn, it basically moved up my time frame for new tread
way to finish strong, the mental game is just as tough as the physical. and no, I'm done competing, after over 40 years of off rod racing I'm not really interested in that kind of punishment. every time you do a race like the you get stronger so way to go just to overcome the adversity and finish dude. not sure it will work but park pool makes a patch you can keep in your backpack. ever since I bought it I've never needed it os there's that.
Ya I would do a large scale enduro I was hoping to be up there in the jr class but didn’t make it up so maybe next year?
I should race this, I would probably die tho.
I’d do an enduro race because it looks super fun
Nice
Way to push through with that luck. Any advice? I am racing the BME in big sky next week. It is my first enduro.
I have an enduro tips video you can check out! But the biggest thing is bring plenty of nutrition along, and pace yourself 🤘
I would like to add, it is a race, but don’t push yourself too hard to be fastq
^ Can't finish if you crash out 👍
I finished almost last in my first enduro class due to crashes, pulling off for faster riders (happened to have class winners behind me), and nerves. I think the rain the night before really made me nervous since the track was super f'n gnarly to begin with. It's silly since I was super fit and the transfers were fine (trained climbing 6kft a week). Just needed to believe in myself, trust my practice, and finish the race. Had no mechanicals and times were tight for my class. I was competitive on a couple stages, so that made me feel good. Just "go out and ride your bike" can't be more true. Enjoy it and don't worry about results. And that nutrition part - def want to stay on top of hydrating and food. It will make for a bad day if you don't...
Hell yeah but not the pro am category, to old for that.
As for your results who cares for a first real hard test. You calmed yourself and persavered through the issues and finished every stage. Having the mentle tuffness, ingenuity, and drive are bigger factors to becoming a great rider and competitor then winning. All the great EWS athletes have what you showed. Better races and results to come your way. You did fantastic inspite of all the shit that went wrong.
Which one best bro trek marlin 7 or polygon xtrada 6 1*11?
How did you get sponsored by polygon
Why did you take the tire insert out? Is it because you put a tube in and it wouldnt fit otherwise?
Yup, had to go with a tube the rest of the day
I'd just expect that the tire insert would help the tube not get cut by the soft metal plate, but maybe it wouldnt fit properly and you'd get bad traction.
I crashed at 2:28. That off-camber was a B

was the a DH casing ?
It was. The rock I hit was super sharp.
@@TheShredist dammit, those tires are not cheap either.
Not at all lol. Got one week out of it!
Are you riding a polygon still?
Yessir!
4:30 did you put a tube in?

You gotta try riding in Missoula!

I'm doing this race for the first time in a couple weeks. Watched this video twice. Great content. I did a dirt bike extreme Enduro at silver mtn back in 2019 and it was probably the hardest moto race I've ever done. Stoked to ride it on mtb. Hopefully the snow melts in time.
Yeah the snow is looking gnarly this year! Might be racing in dug out trenches lol
DO IT ON A HARDTAIL
They did have a hardtail class!
stop riding Maxxis....stop getting casings cuts....
Guarantee every tire would get cut on what I hit.
@@TheShredist try Michelins....their DH tires are pretty much bullet proof. the Wild Enduro are tougher than anything Maxxis....the all mountain feel like Maxxis Dh tires.
@@mustclime5311 I tried them out once but didn't like how slow they rolled. Tried the wild enduros, and they felt like they were dragging brakes the whole way down the trail for me. Been wanting to try some Wtbs lately.
@@TheShredist not the fastest rolling tire, that is true.....but all I ride is rocks and the longest I ever got a maxxis to last was 6 weeks. I have worn 2 sets of the wild enduros down to slicks with no sidewall cuts. Have to ask....How fast is a tire with a cut sidewall?
I think this was just bad luck, last set of Maxxis I had lasted 1 and a half seasons. This was my first sidewall cut I've experience with Maxxis 🤷♂️
