Now that's cool! Subbed to watch MTB videos but I've learnt so much more! Always been curious about MX, never tried it more than just borrowing a bike for a 10 minute ride. This looks like a fun project.
Great video sir. Internals look a whole lot better than I was expecting when looking at the externals. Your home made insulated garage door backdrop has worked out like a dream.
Cylinder plating- I've sent several to Millennium Technologies Wisconsin. They do a great job and have a fantastic reputation. Also, when it comes time to put the motor together, Factory Wrench makes a jig to hold the tranny and shift drum together for easy installation. WORTH EVERY FRIGGING PENNY!!!!!!!
There is soooo much in that small case! Great video Dude!! I subscribed for MTB and your Backyard MTB trail building series bit in reality your channel is a whole outdoor experience with MTB, Bike hacks and How-to's,Trail building, Biking and your racing vlogs and more!! Excited to see what you do with the transmission!! And until then keep the rubber side down😄😂
J- for the broken clutch cover bolt check out AvE's video on Alum from a few years back. Its used to chemically dissolve the steel fastener and leave the Aluminum untouched. I've used it on an aluminum head where a valve cover bolt broke off and it worked well.
Don’t worry about plating, pick up a plus one size piston kit and send it to Matto Cycle/Performance Machine Works in PA. Talk to Budd, his prices and turnaround time is unmatched. He could probably help with woods setup info as well.
Killer video series! Years ago I split the cases on a ktm400 and couldn't believe what I had gotten myself into. Great learning experience. Can't wait to see how this project turns out.
This is awesome! I’ve been watching your channel for a while and never knew you were into motocross! I love the yz’s, good way to go for a wider ratio is you can take 3rd 4th and 5th gear from a yz 250x and put them in your 250!
7:51 Clutch can also be loosened with an impact with the top end on or the chain attached while on the bike. OR using the gear jam tool you have, placing all the clutch fibers and steels back into the clutch and then hitting with the impact. You would need the tool for torquing when reinstalling
If you find yourself waiting for parts or waiting on machine shop services, you may want to try your hand in doing some diy cerakote on some engine parts. They have air cure options that people say work well. I think it would make for good content and who doesn't like a little bling.
You learn to work on these. Start with the small stuff like an oil change or tensioning a chain. Follow your manual and watch RUclips tutorials or you can take it to your local shop.
millennium technologies does a great job with plating cylinder although there are typically local shops in each state capable of replating the nikasil and returning it to factory bore
Eric Gore Racing, Millennium Tech, or US Chrome for the cylinder. All Wisconsin based companies and they are the go-to engine guys for cylinders and 2 stroke stuff.
Where do you learn how to do this? I have a 2006 CRF250R that I want to be able to rebuild when the time comes, but I have nobody to help me figure things out if they go wrong.
Also had no idea there is so much moving parts on a bottom end. AlthoughI just recently started riding dirt bikes, Praying on I don't have to do this on my te300i 🤷♂
I don't know anything about these bikes, but still enjoyable to watch you work. The wood on the garage door makes a great backdrop!

That's pretty cool how you know how to do all this mechanical stuff. Where did you learn all this from?
Just grew up riding and working on dirt bikes, so I starting dabbling with mechanics early on. Never lost the passion for it I guess lol.
Millennium Technologies for the replating

Its been nice having a place to work and film indoors finally!
Aloha, I have a 2011, cool to see the breakdown process, good to see the steps. 🤙
Didn't think I'd say this but that breakdown was satisfying to watch 😆

Are you using a trans set from an old woods bike like a wr250? If so youll love it. My 1992 wr250 has awesome ratios.

Sweet.. wasnt too bad! This is gonna be a cool bike when its ready 🤟
the pattern from the drips at 14:13 is super cool

I'll look into that!

Good tip!

Cant wait to see what you do with the transmission. Had a look a few years back at doing it to my 08 yz250. Next rebuild maybe.
16:30 - I'm assuming you're doing a WR wide ratio swap?
Really interested in trying a MX or a quad. Then I watch this and get overwhelmed thinking about maintaining them haha.
Haha maintenance is pretty easy compared to this. This is pretty much an overhaul!

@@MattH198makes sense... I just know how I am about my mtbs and everything else.
7:45 - That's the tool you should be using to remove and reinstall the flywheel.
Also, that stopper lever you are removing at 9:28 is a known weak link. Update it with the same part from 2016 and up.
Inner clutch basket, outer clutch basket... But you're welcome to call it a boss ;-)
LA sleeve in California! They can set you and you're cylinder up! At a good price.

nice work

I've been looking the hardest at Eric Gorr Racing, especially at their 300cc setup.
This has to be more complicated than brain surgery, you made it look easy.....the relaxing background music also added to the video.
In my opinion the steel frames are way more nimble than aluminum frames in the woods
i need my yz250 engine rebuilt, i rode the engine coolant dry an she seized…
how much do you reckon a shop will charge?
inner clutch hub

Just lots of years of wrenching and research. 4 strokes are definitely more complicated thatn 2 strokes though.
Also had no idea there is so much moving parts on a bottom end. AlthoughI just recently started riding dirt bikes, Praying on I don't have to do this on my te300i 🤷♂
Wr gear swap and 4mm stroke plate the engine n keep that heavy weight flywheel
Do it proper and have a dependable shredder after.
👍
How the heck are you so mechanically inclined? I was too busy smoking weed and drawing 90s punk logos all over my note book in auto class.
WR 450 tranny swap?
Just buy a used ktm man much more of an Enduro bike than anything yamahammer makes. I do enjoy the build tho hope to see it up and running!
But that wouldn't be quite as fun to watch! lol. I'll get a ktm someday, definitely want to breathe some life into this guy first!
He’ll get the ktm when I finally get him on my timbersled! Lol
Doesn't seem THAT complex all this engine mumbo-jumbo.
There's definitely less to it once you start digging in!
Look like POS hotrods 7 ball crank bearings i
Getting replaced with OEM 🤘
@@TheShredist 🏁🏁👍👍
wr tranny swap would be sweet! 👌
