Viewer mail in this episode! Stick around to the end! :)
In this video we are going to install the Brasington High Score Save Kit on our Donkey Kong 3 Arcade PCB and then play a rather decent game of DK3! The install shown in this video would apply to all of the Nintendo Brasington High Score Save Kits. Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Popeye, Mario Bros., and of course DK3.
After we install the kit we'll play a pretty decent game of DK3. I almost score 200,000 points! Not too bad.
At the end of the video I'll read and answer some viewer questions. If you guys like this new segment we'll do it again in future videos.

Denim on Denim...............The Canadian Tuxedo, Always love your videos John, it was nice to see you troubleshoot without panicking, something I need to learn.
Sorry forgot to mention really enjoyed the segment of the video where you read viewer mail. I really enjoyed John!
Thanks for answering my question John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech, and to answer your question, yes you answered it spot on, nice one... :)
I'll come up with anther one when a few more viewers have had a turn... Cheers buddy...
Great vid John! Love seeing gameplay footage in your vids too.
Nice video! Was a bit worried when the game didn't work, but I'm glad you showed the process of checking the board instead of just pretending it went off without a hitch.
Donkey Kong 3 is definitely one of my favorite arcade games! I also have the Braze kit for my DK3 and it has been very reliable! Great video John! Keep it up! I really like the new "Viewer Mail" segment! :)
I always do the Stanley dance when I finish a lvl
Which is basically my spinning round and Downing a swig of whiskey 😎👍
Glad to see you got everything working and you played a nice game. That's a good idea with the Q&A.
johns got the best table, allways keeps me in suspense expecting something to fall off with the next wobble haha :)
Wow, that was about as much board flexing as my nerves can handle ;)
yeah, it was a little hairy. :)
Hi John. Loving the viewer mail segment. It was great. Donkey Kong is also my fave. In fact as a young kid I was and still am crazy about it. In fact I own a full box of the original DK cards from back in the early 80s. Afraid to open them though.
Awesome video John! Like DK3 game it reminds me of when I used to play DK3 on the NES multi cart. I very much agree with DK3 is different but also a very fun game but also challenging
Awesome video as always John! I have that kit in all my Nintendo cabs. They are VERY worth it.
Great vid john and well over due
Donkey kong 3 is awesome and I love the decals you did for them.
Good score to buddy
Nintendo Arcade Thanks, pal! I love this game. :)
John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech OH MY GOSH! JOHN! I LOVE DONKEY KONG 3 SO MUCH! AND AT 20:14 I love it when that happens to arcade games! I don't know why, I just do! Might be something because I'm a retro gamer I guess? LOL
The arcade is looking fantastic John :)
I've been enjoying seeing that beautiful mug of yours.
GORF is a great game for the arcade. Talks and great cabinet. Always looks great with the TRON. Never heard or play Fix it Felix.
John, thanks for the reply on KLOV about whether or not this kit has ATTRACT mode during free play. Looks simple and works exactly the way a guy would want. To get into the TEST MENU, all you need to do is hold in the service button for 5 seconds while in attract mode, not game mode. You don't need to turn it on while depressing the switch.
John's Arcade: Wobbly Table: Part Deux ;-)
I'm definitely in on the pole position pedal rebuild! Im about to start a restoration on one once i finish my crystal castles & vanguard arcades!
Vanguard was one of my favorites as a kid. Got it on the Tablet now:-) :-)
yo john ive been checking out your vids out the last couple of weeks and I gotta be honest at first I kinda found you a bit annoying but the stuff you where showing and talking about I found it kind of fascinating even though I don't have any arcade machines but I gotta say you started to grow on me and now im totally into your vids man im hooked ..keep up the good work keep doing what you do man ..
Thanks!! I'm glad you stuck with it. See, I'm not so bad. :) LOL!
JOHN please do Fix it Felix! We all wanna see that!
This way you can put the Hogan's Alley cabinet to good use, you can do some very interesting episodes AND after some time if you don't like the game you can resell it for good money. Please do it!
love the "viewer mail"
By the way i have a DK3 LOVE THE GAME....and i did not know about the power spray been carry over levels...
Sweet
arcadefever Yeah, totally! Don't use it on the easy levels. Leave it down there until you're in trouble.
I did not know about the power spray or killing all the bugs? And still got over 100,000. Bring it in now!!!
Very cool. I really like DK3s unique use of 2 NES CPUs for its music. And they have nothing to do with the color, by the way.
Hi John, thanks for another great video. I always look forward to your next vid :o) Its really interesting to see the inside of all these classics. You are so lucky to have a basement! They are not as common here in the UK. I am restoring a Daytona USA Twin in my living room! The wife isn't too keen about it :o)
Great stuff =)
I can't help but wonder if Anyone can visit your arcade, it looks so awesome.
Great idea of doing Q&A and doing it like this facing the camera. Only thing is you need to either get a new table of fix the current one. I keep thinking your going to fall over or something.
I think he needs to take the popcorn machine off of the table. The games looks great but the popcorn machine cheapens the shot. Just my opinion.
It's every 30,000. That's why you got it at 39:26.
I remember being highly disappointed with this game when it came out because it was so different. It has become one of my favorites now however. Great vid as usual John. My high score is in the 80,000's so it looks like I have some work to do.
Todd Teghtmeyer Yeah, totally. It's such a little oddity. Really cool game and even cooler when you play it like a shooter and not a platformer.
Very fun game I have the NES port.
the bugs in the mario paint fly swatter game look heavily inspired by the bugs in dk3
BUILD IT! Build the Fix it Felix and sell it if you dont want to keep it. I would love to see it.
I never thought of the legality on the fix it felix jr. You could always build it and sell it.
Dude, get a steadier table. For some stupid reason that table drives me crazy. Love the videos tho!
Nice video man
Still waiting to see when you pick up an Galaga cabinet. Galaga was the arcade game me and my dad always played.
I am going to donate to you a new table,,,its driving me crazy watching it wobble around lol
Or a napkin:-) :-)
Those damn VS. daughter cards have the same issue. You have to really smash them into the socket for them to work correctly.
Lol was there seriously 3 Chris' in a row asking questions?
craig gilchrist Really, I didn't notice! LOL/
In the video you mentioned you punch-out was a big restore; I was curious in which way was it a big restore?
Was the cabinet in bad shape or it was a big restore from the standpoint of the dual monitors and the technology involved?
I'm currently saving a punch-out, that used to be a single monitor Superman and it's a beast of a project to be honest and is a bit overwhelming....I've restored a few cabs in the past but this one is a challenge.... i'm curious if you had a similar experience.
It's not impossible, oh, it's not impossible.
Don't worry too much about Disney, its the sellers they'll pursue more than the user, the exe has been out for a while and i don't think they've gone after it that aggressively. Theres a guy here in the uk that makes them to order.
Quick Question: That little Red and Silver metal thing on your table that you usually sit beside, is that a Popcorn machine? either way it's adorable.
Yes, it is. John makes popcorn in it in this video.
John's Arcade Tour Dec 2013 -- YEAR END REVIEW! ALL ACCESS TOUR! Popcorn Maker!
Hope you will shoot a vid of our kit soon. ;)
Which kit is that?
Hey john what is the size of the monitor it a centipede arcade cab as I am building one at school
Thanks keep you to good work
It is a standard 19" arcade monitor.
thanks john you're awesome
Stanley is not a plumber. He's a Bugman.
+Tubewings Gardener
True, but he's also referred to as "Stanley the Bugman".
Hey John, I have a nice ground strap with a test light on it. It's yours if you want it. Let me know.
Speaking of Donkey Kong, I saw in other videos that the attract modes in the DK series does have sounds. I haven't heard them from your machines or from their mame counterparts. How is it possible to turn the attract mode sounds on?
It is an option. I have them off.
By the way, did you know that the Donkey Kong in these games became Cranky Kong in the Donkey Kong Country series? Also, DK Jr. is the Donkey Kong in those games.
Yes, I have heard this! But why didn't Mario age? :)
I like how Rare implied that. But I don't think Nintendo wants to confirm it. :/
Anyone know what a restored Space Invaders Deluxe with a Braze multigame kit is worth? It has repainted cab, Freshly stenciled side art (no kickplate art since there isn't any stencils yet) a new modern power supply and all of the RAM chips have been replaced. It's pretty damn nice but I have no idea what it's worth. I actually restored two at once and I'm keeping one. Thanks
38:26 Death Glitch
Can you PLEASE fix that shaky table!!...make that one of your vids....or incorporate into one of the restore vids.
hey john I was wondering if you could help me I just picked up a donkey kong jr machine and I want to set it for free play but not sure how todo it. can you help me do it?
Have you ever knocked that table over?
LOL! The table is stable! It just rocks a little bit. :)
whats the battery compartment on the pcb for?
ClassicGamer78 that will save certain data about the game’s operations and will also save the free play setting, but not high scores.
I have a question who prints out your CDs and who does the cover art for them what company because I have Audusson of working on his album and I don't know what company to go to to do the cover art and print out the CDs
I did the artwork. We use CD BABY for manufacturing.
I got a hit you up privately to get too personal information research and I got a link up with you one of these days
As for the Fix-It Felix, don't do it. It's not worth the risk. Besides, you already have the games that inspired it. I'd recommend seeking out another light gun game, since you don't have any of those in the basement.
Hurry up and have all your nintendo cabs in a row, they are depressed being serperated. Like little foster children with broken hearts.
AussieGamer No! Iike them separated. It's like a REAL arcade from back in the day. :)
Haha such an evil man :P
But yes i do agree with you.
Fix it Felix na na na forget it no no its not a real game caa caa :)
First freaking comment!! Lol
You win!
