Yeah we loved Lombok way more than Bali when we went last year, Bali was just too chaotic and seemed to be a lot worse than what we were expecting. Ended up staying about 8 days in Kuta Lombok and we had only planned 2-3 nights. Was so awesome jumping on the scooter everyday on those empty smooth roads and exploring new beaches each day a long the southern coast. So many awesome cliff beaches ❤️
yeah i agree mate! So much to explore here and there's no one around - and the roads are brilliant!
But other parts of Bali are still nice; East Bali for example. If Canggu, Kuta, Seminyak and surroundings you are talking about...as an Indonesian myself, I don't even care. Because I know these areas before they were developed.

If one day Lombok is crowded, there is still sumbawa and if it's crowded too, then the next big hit is Flores, then lembata, then alor then wetar... It is endless. All beautiful
It would still take years for Lombok to be as crowded as Bali so no need to be concerned :), although the circuit could probably change that in the near future.
Personally I like the Lombok for what it is now, an island for the people who want to escape from the overcrowded Bali and seek adventure.
But today both island suffer the same thing, there barely any tourists in both islands thanks to covid.
I used to hang out in Lombok in the early 1980s...first time I went to Gili Air, there were 8 tourists, no electricity or running water, and we slept in huts on the beach. Sengiggi had one place to stay. When I used to hang out in Ubud in Bali (1980), there were 2 places to stay and it cost about $2 a night, no street lights, no restaurants or banks, and nowhere to go at night. Times have changed.

@@hendraclip1435 I am indeed, thanks. When I spent time in even less-travelled places like the island of Lembata, folks kept calling me "Father" because the only white males they saw were missionaries.
There are still many places like that today in Indonesia...like Kei and Morotai

Just watched the full video - could not agree more with what you've said about Bali and how it's become very built up and polluted. I made a video about two years ago covering this and how I fell in love with Lombok because it gave me the things that I was expecting to find in Bali. What I didn't plan for was that this video has now got almost 400k views and in some ways, I worry that I'm going to be responsible for the 'downfall' of Lombok haha. Lots of people's comments have told me as much.
I'm going back there this year for the long term and I'm hoping to spread a message about sustainable tourism that doesn't completely ruin or whitewash the beauty of the island. It's definitely on the way to that tipping point

I live in lombok and i'm proud with your video..you must try go to sindang gila waterfall, tiu kelep waterfall, mawun beach, selong belanak beach or rinjani mountain, .. you must try the food, pelecing, sate bulayak or ayam taliwang or also 💕 thanks for love my island.. 😊
Been to Bali 4 times now (we always try to avoid the really busy areas but it's getting harder each time!), and I love it, but Lombok looks awesome too!!

I went to Gili and Senggigi! It was the most amazing moment there. And you can visit the village where people they don't use electricity. Amazing waterfall and every spot in Lombok it was incredible!!!

I’m a local in Lombok, and I feel the same with Bali that it is too crowded to visit. I suggest you to visit Sengkongkang in Sumbawa. The beach is as beautiful as Lombok. Perhaps Moyo Island and Labuan Bajo. Raja Ampat should be on your list as well.
As a person who lives in lombok since day 1, Bali is much more advance and lombok is pretty calm and not that advanced its also much cheaper and a bit more dirty. but if you want a quiet place and not that full, its sumbawa, the island next to lombok

Oh awesome mate! Gili air is great too, bit more chilled than Trawangan for sure. Could def be Rinjani - I just heard that it's opened up again but need to look into it
@@TheLifeOfJord Just did the crater rim from Senaru and it was still closed two days ago, but it was a beautiful morning up there! Looked clear to the summit! But the guide did say we were really lucky with weather! The people the day before got nothing but rain and clouds and no visibility into the crater!

I was in Java, Bali and Lombok in 2008. But my experience is that the west part of Java is quite beautiful and unexplored.. maybe a journey to West Java is an ide?

@@TheLifeOfJord Anak Krakatau is located in the Sunda Strait, between Java and Sumatra, quite far from Bali and Lombok. But it's good enough to visit.
Sumba looks incredible you should go there. Kampung Adat and Danau Weekeri look stunning!

I recommend you to visit Sumba Island in East Nusa Tenggara, the island is located south of Flores Island and Komodo National Park, not so far from Lombok Island. There are still many places that are still natural and rarely touched by tourists, such as beaches, waterfalls, lakes (example: Lake Wekuri), local traditional villages, Wairinding hills etc. Although the facilities are not as complete as Bali and Lombok, if you want to look for a place that is "rarely touched" and quiet with few visitors, I highly recommend Sumba.

Hi Jord - take the boattrip from Lombok to Komodo - 3 nights/4days - also snorkeling and some sightseeing on the way to the famous dragons, it's not expensive, because you sleep on the boat. Labuan Bajo and the island of Flores also very nice. If you don't wanna go to far, maybe the island Mojo, north of Sumbawa, nice for snorkeling and just a few resorts 🙋♀️

Visit Sumbawa, then Sumba, Flores. Islands to islands eastward. Flores is a big one. They all are differents. You may want to explore Rote, the southern most island. I have only been to Bali, Lombok and Flores. Enjoy it

Go east, like sumbawa, then komodo / labuan bajo, then ruteng to see the mount kelimutu then sumba then kupang!

Labuan Bajo is really cool. Check out the dragons. One place I haven’t been to but would love to see you view on is Raja Ampat, one of the worlds best diving spots apparently

paul withers i just moved to Lombok a month ago. Local food are spicy even for me as indonesian (a lot of sambal involved). I’ve managed to stroll around Senggigi last weekend but i think you’ll have to go to Mataram for a worthy local food. western food are located in Senggigi though.
Given me food for thought. I was considering relocating to Canggu, Bali this year. I’ve heard a few stories about it being overly crowded, too much traffic, polluted and noisy. Would Kuta, Lombok be a good alternative then?

you should meet Mathias Pettersen... he is norwegian youtubers who made a lot of videos about Indonesia. Right now, he build his hotel in kuta lombok. Mybe he got some recomendation about places you should going to... My recomendation would be sumba, bintan, toraja, raja ampat, kei island, and labuan bajo if you never been to before..
I recommendation visit first gili kondo, gili bidara, gili petagan and gili pasir in East lombok.
Next gili nanggu, gili kedis and gili sudak 👍👍
Come n visit dompu with magnificent view of Tambora and it's savana also with beautifull beach and gili (small island)....dompu is still in West Nusa Tenggara Province

Me and family stay in Bali 9 years and lombok 18 years especially my father 32 years..,I think Bali very beautiful island than lombok!!!nothing special in lombok only beach???Bali have more beautiful beach and culture,food,wine etc.i always recommend Bali than lombok.i stay in thuktuk island now
Maybe most people only visit the southern part of Bali which of course is very crowded because it is close to the city center. but everyone has their own opinion, I don't mind what he says in this video(I 'm Balinese btw).

@@goldthechana2068 I think that's why people prefer Bali. Why go on holiday somewhere where you cannot sleep through the night. Also they love building them next to hotels as if they're trying to make a point.
I think its preventable if you got place not nearby the mosque
@@natdomo Yes - ALWAYS check hotel location on Google Earth, make sure it is at least 200 metres away from the nearest mosque or musholla. You can be sure the hotel will not inform you about that, so save yourself a nasty shock and a sleepless holiday!
I'm indonesian my house is like in 300-400m radius with nearest mosque. Sometimes i play game until late 4 am with friends and they could hear the mosque sound thru my headphone 🤣😪.

In November and December I have been visiting Indonesia. I can recommend Sulawesi island(Tana Toraja, Togean islands), Flores islands, Maluku, Banda islands, Raja Ampat.....Just a few destinations not so touristic but with fabulous nature and people.....

@@TheLifeOfJord More remote places and very good for diving but also to chill out. Especially nice is Tana Toraja which has very special tradition of burials. Check online and see...
If you want to go of the beaten path you should go to Sumbawa and climb Sangiang Api - a small island/vulcano located north-east of Sumbawa
