Folks...you can reach Toby here if you're considering a new shop/barndominium or just a farm building here: dws-structures.com/ 336-996-0500 Tell them ya saw it on Stoney Ridge Farmer!
Congratulations dude you turned a dream into reality it’s beautiful. I think many men have the dream of owning a building just like that.
I would of made a cellar inside..
Seems safest in there
Keep on keeping on my friend...
Great looking Building Josh !
The build looks great! Just a heads up...Toby won't give you the time of day unless you want a huge building. The claim on this video that they service all these places is not true. We are less than 2 hrs from their facility and were told our business wasn't worth their time. I suppose if I had over 600K followers on YT I could draw their business.
Need to do a total cost video. People love numbers it will get a ton of views
Or the cost will scare them to death.😁
yep....numbers have been discussed in most of the mega shop vids leading up to this...when it's all said and done nearly at $300k just for the shell, windows and doors/concrete
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer nice man I must have not caught those videos. I may or may not watch these will driving back and forth to work 🤫
@@StoneyRidgeFarmeryou said 5 roll up doors? was that part of the 300k?
looks great btw. its obvious you got a whole team of professionals working on it and not a bunch of meth heads lol
also curious how much concrete did you use? pad thickness? footer depth? its a tall building for sure
Toby has a great demeanor about him and very knowledgable without the fluff. Might be your best guest on the channel yet.
Fantastic! From 1964 until 1971 we lived on a farm that had a large wooden barn. I found it on old maps from the late 1940’s, so it had some age. The bottom edges of some of the side boards were rotting and the stone and mortar foundation was deteriorating. Tenants who lived on the property after we left rehabbed that barn with a concrete block foundation and new boards where needed. Wooden barns may still have a place, but today steel is the way to go. Well done, Josh.
Josh I will have to say this is one of best videos I have seen you bring to us ,it was informative and done professionally, Toby did a great job explaining the safety points of the structure and how everything comes together, and as usual you did a great job bringing us good content,I enjoyed the video, have a good one!!
I am 71 years old and I learned so much from your presentation of the metal building verses a wood. Great video!
good choice. i remember seeing multiple steel frames intact during Katrina cleanup despite all other buildings in the area being completely leveled.
I'm a drafter/detailer for a pre-engineered steel building company, so this video is cool to me!
Wow - looking great. You have to be excited. Just like the farm - can't wait to see the evolution of this building over time.
You and me both!
that's smart looking building.
every video I see like this makes me more grateful to be in a place without ridiculous permitting and overly restrictive codes.
Really great seeing the mega shop taking shape. Will look great completed, you ought to have great times doing all those future projects in that facility. Good job! 👍 Wooooo!
I am so happy for you Josh!!!
Nice building. Hope everything goes as planned. Stay safe.
Toby explained exceptionally well and based upon that, I am confident that you have selected the right company to work with for your build. The building itself looks to be a very impressive and useful building to be! As a side note, Josh, I am very impressed that you know what an 'apple box' is in the film world. Here in Japan, they are known as 'uma' or 'horse' (think clothes horse or saw horse), but are exactly the same thing to the same specification and are a staple of the tools that I use in my job.
Who did the foundation?
Next level right there! The building is beautiful and will become the center of the SRF's operations. 🚜-Woooo!!
So cool to see the Mega Shop! Looking forward to seeing Popcorn, Bandit and other projects there. I'm so impressed with your watering system! Great job!
Thanks so much!
Nice explanation on different factors. Thanks. Yes, Middle East you don’t shake with the hand you wipe with.
They are doing an awesome job with your building so glad you are getting it done it will be a great place to work in
Awesome video Josh lots of valuable information for people looking to build a steel building.
Congrats SRF/Josh on getting ur Dream Shop being built. looking sharp so far. lv ur crazy videos.
I am doing a steel building up here in Canada, Vancouver island in British Columbia. I really enjoyed your video. Definitely going to watch all the metal building videos. I went with steel for the cost and to get the most height. What a great idea to pre-drill all the screw holes. I'll be putting it up myself but with lots of help from some construction buddies.
Can't wait for mine to be done. Just waiting for my concrete plans to be done then I can submit it all to get a permit. Can't wait!!!
It's coming along very nice
Looking good Josh I know you're excited about your new mega-shop-dominium can't wait to see it completed
Hey Josh, if you are wanting windows in your doors they are extremely easy to install I have done several of them I just bought replacement door windows at Menard's and cut the hole then installed them myself. It was surprisingly easy and it makes you wonder why they charge so much extra. I now buy all of my metal doors/exterior doors without glass and then if I want glass I just install it myself.
Josh, good job showing us the mega shop building. It's coming along great. Thanks for the update.
Great info Josh thanks
Cool video thank you Josh
Looking great
Started out working with n Fl putting up metal buildings - it’s way harder than you think !!! Hats off boys !! Nice work
I agree Jason!!
Rad! That things gonna be so handy to use. Lots of magic to had in there
answer your phone! lol
That’s a big shop barn. Josh that’s going to be real nice. Take care and have a good one. 👍👍👍❤️
Love it!!! I am so excited for you Josh, long time coming.
hi there real nice build john
The darker door trim looks great. Standing seam metal roofs are the most solar friendly with S-5 brackets.
💥 Wow! With the walls up it’s starting to look bigger than I thought. That’s going to be so nice! Room for everything!
*Keep on tractoring!* 😁👍
Can't wait!
Might wana throw some bolts threw the top of those doors, self tappers are strong but can get weak and break if your holding heavy gauge material.
these guys know what they're doing for sure my friend...it's bolted in several places..just didn't show it in the vid
Awesome content as always.Very educational and well explained. The variety of content in the channel sets it apart from others. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
thanks buddy
@@StoneyRidgeFarmerJosh what is the actual colors of the mega shop?
I AM SO SO HAPPY FOR YOU MY FRIEND LOOK SO GOOD
Morning josh your barn or shop is coming along sweet its big really big iam pleased for you i really am you are going to a butchers shop as well you are on the up josh keep going its all looking good for you keep yourself safe untill next time
The lighting was killer. Overcast days are the best days to film
Very impressive Josh, congratulations!
Awesome Mega-Shop Josh. Glad to see this project started, probably not near as glad as you are. Looking forward to the finished project. 👍
I built this (i'm sitting in now) much like that - different company - Heavy I beam and got 400mph grade on the windows and 300 on the building. And steel doors. You will enjoy the building and use the fool out of it ! I had 90 cement trucks and 100 full length sand trucks of building sand.
That is a awesome shop buddy good for you great video explaining the building thanks for sharing take care
Man look at that. Very happy for all your progress look n. Good. Josh.
Hey Josh thanks for the video and the mega shop looks nice it's a getting there and I hope you and your whole family have a nice happy memorial day weekend woo
16:30 shows the brace frame.
I didn't see it the first time but it is clearly visible. It is two heavy posts with a heavy beam that outlines the whole bay.
Must be a real treat to work with a professional who is also that loose and amiable.
Very nice!!
Great building 💪, but my favorite part were the bloopers lol 😂
When i was in the army at the forwar operating bases we used piss tubes. Like a 4in or 6in piece of pvc buried like 3 or 4 feet in the ground at a angle. Sticks out of the ground like 3ish feet. Helps keep the smell down.
A well done video with a great Farm building in progress.
comming on strong. well done buddy ;)
Very impressive! Getting it done right, with the right material, by the right company, from what I can see. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build!
Loving it, just loving it.
Great video Josh 🇺🇲 the shop well be a good fit for the farm WOOOOOO 🇺🇲
I want one of these in my back yard
My first career was being an erector I done all kinds of buildings some red iron some wood and some just a combo of different materials. For the sqft for a building is the way to go if you're going to live in it. That's why it's expensive easy to erect. I bet it didn't take longer than a week to erect. Here's a tip don't smash the screw's the rubber will rote away and it's like a car body. Do You wash your car? Dust and scratches cause damage. A simple 3 inch scratch will rust through the skin It's not maintenance free.
Thanks! Just in the process of planing my shop/barndominium. I will contact Toby.
Give us a call! Thanks
truly love your channel. Keep doing the best work.
Another great video Josh! Really helped us with the planning of our 60 x 100 shop! Thank you so much :)
Big D , Like the video ..
A lot of good information. Never thought of looking at a steel building.. 70,000 dollars worth of concrete 🤔
Awesome building 👍👍👍👍👍😸🤗🐺
We've loved watching your channel grow! Always awesome content keep up the great work Josh!
This is an awesome building SR
Love it! So do you know what the roof loading is, I know you guys don't get much snow there in NC, but could encounter a freak storm one season.
The ground snow is 15 psf at SRF.
If you design overhead lift like a crane on wheels? Hopefully that makes sense. Pretty handy butchering or pulling a motor. Anything requiring Overhead lift.
Great job Toby !
You could always add sky lights to the shop. They don’t let in a incredible amount of light but every little bit helps. Woooooo
Man I loved this video! I look forward to see where it goes I am working on the designs for one of these myself 40x80 had been my original idea. Like a lot of guys looking have followed RR but I agree this is next level. Steel is where its at..
dang. looking good 👍
Looks awesome Josh can't wait for the next video of mega shop build appreciate you sharing these wonderful videos buddy 👍
Toby , sure seems like a terrific guy.
Nice video and very informative! Toby seems like a good dude. Thanks for sharing. That’s going to be a nice shop!
Great video and information.
Concrete with the Hauses would have never poured that floor and ended up with dip's that hold water. Nice building, Josh!
this is pretty darn flat my friend...however we do have drains in it
Beautiful building 👍🏻
Only those old concrete military ordinance storage bunkers could easily handle a 500mph wind. Have you seen those are being sold and retrofitted for people that want a kind of doomsday bunker? I really enjoyed your video fellas! Thank you. God bless you both.
I like the building. The thermal expansion explanation is a complete non-starter, but if it makes you feel better so be it.
not sure what a "non-starter" is....however seems you must know more than us...if not you wouldn't be commenting. Maybe explain what you mean since you seem to be an expert my friend....why does your opinion sway from the manufacturer?
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer Your claim was that the exterior steel would have the same thermal expansion as the structural steel, and therefore the fasteners would remain secure, or something similar. Your building is built with insulation between the exterior materials and the structural materials, this will create different temperature zones and the materials will change in size accordingly. If you or the manufacturer need this explained further I will be glad to assist.
@@ingcampthree4523 Hes full of sh... my 75 year old barn alll the 6x6 8x8 and 4x6 beams and truss are all bolted together.. no bolts or screws are loose or wearing themselves out. The outer board and batton walls are nailed in and holding just fine.. nothing has losened over 75 years EXCEPT a few batton boards that have warped. Also the interior of the building will expand differently then the exterior.. doesnt matter if its steel or wood.. its due to the thermal expansion from the sun beating on it. Metal also gets warmer than wood does when the sun is beating on it...When was the last time you put your hand on a wooden building with the sun on it and burned your hand from touching it ?? Yea never... now go out and touch the hood of your car during peak day... exactly. I also do no need insulation during the summer months in this barn because of this.. Where a metal building like this does because lets face it. the metal is going to cook you alive inside without it. In Virginia weve had a few 98f days so far this year.. when i walk into my workshop the temperature drops 25f easily. In a metal building with no insulation itll be hotter inside than outside. Another interesting thing with wood is in the winter with the heat on.. it actually RETAINS heat fairly well
Lightning rods? Grounding?
most likely will not need them
I was like……..why the heck is Chris LeDoux building your shop? Lol, great vid! And great guest for sure!
i like toby. he seems funny
Well its really coming together josh and it looks like a well designed building. I'm ready for the butcher shop to be full swing buddy.
Shew...I may have to butcher my own cows...the local butcher shop is 1 year out!!!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer same here weve got it set up for every year but we may not get in til late just because of how backed up they are.
I think the thin metal sheeting on top of insulation will expand just as much as it would over wood.
A lot of buildings in Australia they make concrete walls onsite and then lift up with crane and steel roof .
U.S., is called Shopping Centers, or new Warehouses.
40' to 80' span you want to go with steel for sure. That is a beautiful building. It will last for generations.
Very interesting Josh 👌
Congratulations of that really cool workshop / barndo! How many people out there want a $350K barn raise your hand. Military, I get that part just curious does the farming bring the profits in or what can you share that will help the folks out here who are wondering how to afford it. My chickens only bring in a dollar or 2
Stoney Ridge Farmer - Nice building! I'd like to put up one myself but I would prefer Spray Foam for the insulation. No mice, bugs, bees etc... getting in the walls.
Spray foam cost is about 4 times higher...makes the building price go up by around $50k my brother...that's pricey!
@@StoneyRidgeFarmer - 100% agree but worth it if possible.
looking good -- we didn't do the rolls of insulation as it has been our experience that it is a perfect nest for mice and will end up full of mouse pee and poo down the road.
anything you build will be a heaven for mice and other critters if you don't have it all sealed off good...that's for sure
Here in ZA we use Aerolite (pink fibre, looks the same as what were used here) . . .it cannot burn, and rodents hate the feel of it, they stay away from the fibre.
Some shed cats will keep rodents at bay.
@@kdegraa to some degree - but in 10 years insulation full of mice pee and poo - prefer closed/open cell spray in.
Have a great Memorial Day Weekend on the Stoney Ridge Farm!
Great video Josh, very informative and entertaining to watch.
looks awesome! nice to see the progress!
Amazing video me an pop always wanted to doing something like this
i've bee trying to build a shop for the last year and the price changes are insane
its going to cost me over 100k its crazy why are things like this
Greed!
Ya, I totally agree. In 2020 a pre engineered 50x50 steel building from R&M steel in Idaho was $40,000, delivered to Seattle. Today a 60x80x16 hangar with one door is $97,000.
@@scenicbearviewing just started forming my slab this week, the engineer cost me big time rebar, cement and time. going to be 40k just in the slab
@@adamm2716 What the size?
Howdy Josh, Texas
I would add some fabric or metal awnings over those walk through doors to help keep the water off the jambs....
Great intro Josh 👍love it❣️❣️❣️
This is for Toby: Sir, I’m a retired commercial roofer, with 30 years experience with just about every kind of roof system imaginable, except these new “Green Roofs.” Like it was mentioned in your video here, screws are one of the weakest links to this type of metal roof system. I also will add to this, any roof curbs or penetrations, i.e., vent pipes, expansion joints, air chillers etc. I personally would test my men, with mock, metal roof set-ups,p inside my shop, and test our men, several times per year, and have them properly demonstrate their screwing down the metal roofing panels, then go over their every screw, checking with a hand held hex driver of appropriate size, to make sure the screws were drawn down tight enough, but not too tight that squashes the gasket neoprene washer. A well trained crew is golden, to assure less call-backs for leaks. However, do to thermal stresses or wind fluctuations, its inevitable, there will be a small leak sometime within 5 years of the new building being installed. It doesn’t mean the work was shoddy, it’s simply expansion and contraction.
