Our building is very much like that. We put in Anderson 400 - 400 mph wind /two-by-four safe. We did that for the near by trees and Tornado and Hurricanes. MY inside walls are 2x12 walls studs and a flying beam end to end 2 large LAM beams - and 2x12's up there due to the plaster load. Library, workroom, game room. Nicely done.
Josh, I have to say, just how impressed I am with the fantastic way you articulate , you have the ability to relay information clearly. Easy to follow, and I feel like we all learned something from this video. As always, thank you for sharing your experience with .🇺🇸
I put these up in Canada. These package are identical to ones we get. We usually end up putting liners in along the interior, basically the same sheets as the exterior, but they’re usually 8’ tall or so, and usually white to blend with the backside of the roll out itch. Looks pretty good
Will you do a complete cost breakdown? I know you mentioned, cement, windows and doors... I was just thinking of building a 40X100 but after looking at your 50' wide, I would be more inclined to go that route.
Wow! I remember when the shop was an image on your computer screen. As a (retired) firefighter I studied building construction at length. Your shop is well designed and well executed.
OK STONEY RIDGE NOW YOU'RE MAKING ME JEALOUS WITH THE BUILDING. I KNOW YOU HAVE GOT TO BE VERY HAPPY AND WE ARE VERY PROUD OF WHAT WE HAVE GOT TO SEE YOU ACCOMPLISH CONGRATULATIONS AND WELL DESERVED.
When I first started watching your videos I didn't picture anything like this, it's nice to see how things are progressing for you, you have come a long way, very proud for you, I enjoyed the tour, good luck moving forward!!
Are you going to add solar panels to the roof & a rain water catchment system to the gutters ? A few 2.5k - 5k gal storage tanks at the end of the shop could be advantageous to your water supply system on the farm. Have a great day 😊.
no water catchment system, at least it's not in the plans...I'm building a pond just down the hill so that will catch the water for me my friend....solar? Hmm...who knows what the future might bring
WHAT A AWESOME SHOP!! Josh, people like you built this country!! Willing to take risk, and putting it all on the line!! Keep us posted on the progress of the shop, and any other activities in the ridge!! God bless!!
Josh, You might want to make sure your doors you purchased are wind rated for the same rating as your building! This is how doors blow in during storms I am from the midwest and if they are not designed to the building code used on your structure insurance companies are getting sharper if this is not met so you might want to double check with your door supplier. I know this as i sell doors for part of my living.
Josh make sure the tops of your man doors that swing out into the weather are sealed. I had to replace 2 insulated commercial doors that rusted from the inside out because water was getting into the inside of the doors because the tops were not sealed.
I can see a master bedroom on the mezzanine floor with a balcony overlooking the farmland one day. Plenty of depth in the walls to add more insulation in the living/office quarters.
Josh farm looks awesome If it was me I would just keep that beautiful double wide trailer home you made it looks awesome and it’s only you right now why hook up yourself with more bills the mega shop is mega cool good luck buddy
Actually, Josh’s trailer is a single wide. There’s quite a difference in a single vs. double wide. Only professional trailer trash would opt for a double wide and waste the money on what they cost IMO. A single wide is much more respectable and cost effective if you go the trailer route.
Megashop looks awesome. Will you be doing a complete cost breakdown on it? I have gotten 4 quotes on a 60x100 for our farm but am hesitant to spend that kind of money on something that will not directly earn me anything back. Trying to think of all the uses that would justify it. Help a buddy off the fence! Haha
Megashop is massive.Would be great if you can use the large roof for solar power generation and power the shop. Thanks for great and variety of content on the channel
Shop look great Josh!My neighbor built a shop and has one section as a living quarters. That’s his home. It’s very nice.He called it a pole barn,so we all call him,the pole barn man!
it's not really a "reveal cost" issue...it's that quoting a cost today may have no relevance tomorrow in our crazy economy. This was done pre-covid. Cost of materials was around $140k and construction was around $50k Concrete was about $80k total. This price is now probably double what it was back then
Josh Beautiful building i usually get a roll of blue tape go around and put blue tape on punch list areas arrow like down to corner bottom plate light area you showed after they fix it; then pull off tape, but make a written list and go back and check their work. you may be able to used backer rod to stuff air penetration gaps around windows. I'm impressed nice shop brother. Josh if you need to lubricate the cables on the bay doors be sure to get a couple of cans of that (special lubricant) get a couple of cans guard it as precious, and fix a schedule. a definite case where an once of prevention is worth a pound of cure getting the garage door guy is expensive especially once maintenance service warranty is up. Been there done that if you don't stay on top of lubricating those spring loaded cables lots of damage occurs, set a schedule and stay on top of it always of serious damage will occur this is the problem with large bay doors like yours.
The 'Tilt and Turn' windows are what we use in Europe where cleaning them above ground level is required, and for secure ventilation. They are probably a lot more expensive than the sash type though. Germany used them decades before we ever did. The plus side is that annoying flies can find their way out if the gap is at the top rather than the bottom. Are you going to use any mechanical ventilation in the building?
Im Pretty sure Ive watched this before but building is looking great Lands are as well Animals are healthy youre doing a great job on it all Thanks Josh I do love the content you put together If you could please give me a direction to go for the finance of it all?? I live in the city and got a letter yesterday about my chickens/ deer stand in the tree/ and an animal pen in my front yard!! Its all good met with fire chief inspector today but I NEED TO GET SOME LAND!!!
Hey! The Dream Shop is the bomb! Great job! The lighting in there is impressive, and there are so many possibilities. Congrats on bringing this to life and can't wait to see what you do!
Insulation - if you want to stay super cool put 12 inches or more of insulation on the walls framed against the metal building. Put 8 inches in the 1st floor ceiling then repeat the same for the 2nd floor except add 12 inches of insulation on the roof. Do not waste money on spray foam unless you go closed cell 3 inches or more thick. We did our 2nd shop with living quarters using bag insulation only and the temps are WAYY better than the 1st shop with 8 inches of open cell spray foam. My AC unit in the 1st shop/home has 2 ac units that runs 5 hours daily downstairs and 8 hours daily upstairs. My AC unit in the 2nd shop/home has only 1 unit and it runs for 4 hours per day. Use foam cans around windows, doors and that crack i am certain you will see at the top where the insulation is smashed against the red iron.
man....we can put tons of insulation in there for sure...but you gotta think about my climate...it doesn't get much over 100 degrees for maybe 2 days in the summer...and the coldest I've ever seen it here is 1 degree F. R 19 in the roof and R13 in the walls is great for this application my friend
It's really coming along, Josh! Big undertaking and a lot more work over the next year or so and a lot more videos! One note, you discussed foam as an insulation and vapor barrier. Open cell foam has its uses but it does absorb moisture if allowed to and can be problematic in this type of use. Closed cell foam is different and resists moisture and can act to make the whole structure more ridged. That said, foam is much more expensive than the insulation used in your building. You also have to conside the climate. I live in the upper Midwest now but used to live in NC. Doesn't get nearly as cold in NC and snow load is less of an issue. If needed, when the money is available, you can add more insulation to any part of the building in the future. Looking forward to the next video and the final punch list!
Very nice Mega Shop Josh. Love it. Roomy but I've never known anyone to say, man I wished I built it smaller. You can never go too big. Best wishes ole bud.
Looks awesome Josh! This was really informative, I'm looking to build a similar building soon in NE PA, hopefully this year, or next so i can fabricate custom cars, and restore vehicles like popcorn. WOOOO!
What an amazing shop. There is always some kind of snag in any construction. I'm wondering if you will be considering skinning the interior? It's not necessary but any welding or work area might get ugly. Congratulations on the mega shop. Looking forward to seeing it develop as time goes by.
Up yonder we call them gurts Z purlins. Shop is looking outstanding. Was wondering since you have such a big roof ever thought of solar panels on the top of roof for your power inside of megashop?
Hey Josh you got to put the man cave in there bro you got to have that you went way out on this building looks good I'm happy for you and this was a good video and I can't wait for the next one

Hi I am new to your Channel, your drop in at the Welkers was my introduction to you and your Channel. I am in Scotland so different here. But what sort of planning permission or permits from your local authorities did you need to biuld this awesome work shop. ??? Good luck.
awesome! Welcome to the farm! This is an agricultural building and therefore in my county requires no building permit aside from when I install the electrical
13:48, I think I see a crease in a roof panel. Just to the right of center at the bottom of the screen.
And again at 12:57 - 13:00

Oh boy could you imagine half that roof with a solar array? Beautiful, exciting, this is quite an undertaking.
Spray foam is not only a better vapor barrier than plastic (no seams), it also lowers the noise of the metal building!

just a quick question . if the one door is 12x12 for a tractor trailer I don't think it's high enough. normally they are,13'6" high
