The reason why King Boo looks different in the Luigi’s mansion games is bc (not only go fit the spooky aesthetic of the game) but also bc of the Crystal that’s on his crown. Whenever he doesn’t have the Crystal on his crown, he just resembles a normal big boo with a crown, however the Crystal has the ability to alter his appearance. It would have been nice too if the wonder event could possibly change the way King Boo looks throughout the level as you go along, so maybe the first third of the level he looks like he does in the trailer, then 2/3 of the level in you see his crown changes, then the final third of the level you see him phase and morph into the Luigi’s mansion King Boo. Now that would be dope as heck. And that would not be too far fetched given the wonder events already do crazy and very out there kind of stuff so it wouldn’t detract from the overall experience at all. That’s how I would have done that level, and also the further along in the level you get, the more twisted and scary the singing becomes from King boo and all the other boos. Still sounds beautiful from start to finish but becomes more horrifying throughout the level.

I think that there actually are two King Boos. If you notice, most kings under Bowser's army have the crown with the jewels, such as the less-cool king Boo. LM King Boo's crown doesn't have those gems. Usually when we see jewel-crown king boo, he's working under Bowser, while LM's King Boo seems to be his own leader.
My theory is that LM King Boo doesn't work for bowser, or at least not after LM1 if he was. He's his own king that rules his own portion of ghosts and boos separately from Bowser. With how frustrated he gets from incompetence as shown in LM3, its safe to assume he may not want to work under Bowser.
Less-cool King Boo is Bowser's king boo. The one that works for bowser and rules over the ghosts in the army itself.
It's possible that LM king boo may have ruled under bowser for a time, going along with how the other kings look unique, but may have broken off due to him percieving Bowser as incompetent, which may have led bowser to give a boo a crown just so there was a King Boo for the army.

I do think the Luigi's Mansion King Boo is better. But the reason why I also like the regular King Boo is because of a cute aspect - The thought that only a crown makes this Boo different and in control of all the others. Like, the boos' egos are so fragile that they'll worship another regular boo just because he has a crown. Or, there's the thought that the crown doesn't have magical power but just gives King Boo the confidence to be very powerful.
If I'm being honest though, Nintendo probably doesn't have a good reason in their heads like this for keeping King Boo so basic. And the Luigi's Mansion King Boo is still better because it's a more creative design.

  • @cherry_pie3
    @cherry_pie3 10 месяцев назад +6

I feel like the reason they don't use the LM king boo design instead of the base one is for more than one reason (At least from my viewpoint)
Firstly, I think the tone of the games is one of the reasons the more basic King Boo design is used over the Luigi's Mansion one. Mario games, mainline especially, are mainly fun adventure platformers. It's meant to be more kid-friendly and or brighter/saturated. They're more lighthearted, unlike the darker, more ominous atmosphere of the Luigi's Mansion games, so I feel like to match the use the regular King Boo.
Secondly, I also thing color palette also has something to do about it. If you really think, a lot of Mario enemies use greens, yellows, reds, white and other brighter colors. Luigi's Mansion King Boo, at least the more recent version, uses more purple and darker tones. And yes, villains like Antasma use purples as well but he only does appear in a spin-off series. But for a character that appears as often as King Boo, going for something that matches the colors for the main games works better. (If the LM 1 design was still around with the red gem, red-ish eyes and blue tongue, that could be a better fit)
Finally, as you said. It's the LUIGI'S MANSION design. Why would the team use the design reserved for the LM games in a mainline game? Sure they might throw some fan-service here or there in spin-offs, but nothing major.
And King Boo isn't the main focus for the main games. It would be weird if they designed King Boo that jarring if he isn't even going to be important to the main plot.
But really, I don't care about what King Boo looks like. I'm a simple woman-

  • @bk7064
    @bk7064 10 месяцев назад +4

There's a reasson they keep them seperate. Having the more sinsiter King Boo design within Luigi's Mansion presents him as a serious threat to everyone, and if he were that SAME image throughout every appearance like Mario Kart or Mario Party, that presentation and effect we get from seeing him is essentially lost. *It's essentially the SAME reason nobody takes Bowser seriously anymore in games.* He's a joke and the only way he could be taken seriously again is from a complete overhaul in design like in Bowser's Fury.
King Boo serves as a balance. He portrays a villain that the universe desperately needs (Luigi's Mansion design), while also serving as a character that people love to see without the status of him being a villain being tainted (aka his regular simpler design).
I also prefer the simplistic design but would also love for them to bring back that ghostly green glow he had from the first game!

My theory is King Boo's form varies depending on how much power he has. Notice how King Boo in Luigi's Mansion is a reality altering god while King Boo in anything else seems to be more reliant on gimmicks and parlor tricks. How intense King Boo is depends on if he's THE villain of the story. He has a lot more to lose when he's running the show as opposed to when he's just another pawn of Bowser or whoever. So naturally when there is more risk to his turf he goes more all out, which alters his physical appearance.
Kinda like any character with different power forms.

Ok, so here's something I want to say. In the gameplay provided for the Mario Wonder scene, there's a timer at the top that's ticking down. So maybe, the King Boo scene in the trailer is just a wonder effect like turning into a goomba. (Looks like someone forgot to watch the Super Mario Bros Super Show) Jokes aside, what if King Boo actually ALSO becomes a boss with his LM or even a brand new design that comes from the effect of a wonder flower. It's certainly not too farfetched since Bowser Jr. went through an interesting design change in the boss fight that we saw of him, and Bowser... Well, you know. So maybe this could be the case.

I saw a theory video that basically describes them as the same character since they have similarities in their crowns but one day the main line king boo came across a gem that gave him power but also corrupted his appearance and personality to make him even more evil. If there is a luigi's mansion movie on the horizon, I personally think that would actually make a really interesting plot; king boo gets bullied by the other "kings" (bowser, king bob-omb, etc.) for not being any different from his lesser counterparts, he finds the gem and terrorizes not just Luigi and friends but even the other villains as well.

Okay, I'm going to assume that most of the King Boo appearances we see are all the same King Boo... _Except_ the on on Isle Delfino, because he looks wayyyy different from the other two designs and even has that shell-shaped tail (Why would King Boo be running a secret casino on Isle Delfino anyway?). But the reason the King Boo in main Mario games looks like a normal Boo is because in _all_ the Luigi's Mansion games he has a seemingly magical gem embedded in his crown. In all the Luigi's Mansion games he seems to have a HUGE power boost. So it would make sense that his boost in power would change his appearance and make him more threatening/scary.

  • @BooTube5

My theory of why king boo looks 2 separate ways:
*(This is all speculation and I am pulling this directly from my own boo/Mario based lore that I created so most of it is not directly shown in any Mario/Luigi's mansion game)*
The gem atop the Luigi's Mansion king boo obviously has some connection with the dark moon. same material, colour and overall similar effect as shown in Luigi's mansion dark moon
However I don't think its the dark moon itself, rather a type of energy that the dark moon produces
    I call it shadow aura!
Boos use shadow aura to do stuff you would expect a boo to do:
Example: create fake blocks and doors, use psychokinesis to pick up items, that kinda stuff
but also some things that aren't shown in any game, such as creating aura weapons/items and making portals
All of these stuff require shadow aura to use
However each boo has a cap and a limit on shadow aura
The cap is the point of which a boo stops gaining new shadow aura from the dark moon (which supplies shadow aura to each boo)
But the dark moon isn't the only way boos can gain shadow aura,
They can also gain shadow aura if either 1) They absorb it from another source (another boo) or 2) They experience Heightened emotion (e.g: Anger, grief, sadness)
If a boo gains aura in either of those ways, it will boost their aura past the cap up to the limit
However the limit is... well the LIMIT. No more shadow aura can be gained past the limit.
But if a boo happens to hit the limit, they will be overwhelmed with power and rage and go on a rampage of which the boo in question is not in control of
a rampage only ends once a boo's aura is reduced to none (btw a boo drains aura faster then the dark moon can supply it while in a rampage)
Anyway, back to king boo. If the gem on his crown truly is from the dark moon, that would mean that it supplies constant shadow aura.
Meaning that when king boo has it on their crown, then that means that their shadow aura will be instantly maximised and they go into a rampage!
But the rampage doesn't end until shadow aura is depleted, but since the gem constantly supplies shadow aura, the king wont stop their rampage unless the gem is removed which allows the shadow aura to deplete once again, returning the king to their Normal form

I wish King Boo's official appearance would be recognized as his appearance from Luigi's Mansion since it's the series of games that introduced him as a main antagonist. I always think back to him being playable in Mario Kart Double Dash and back in the day questioning why anyone would've chosen to design him as a standard boo wearing a standard crown when they could've given him his distinguished look from the mansion games. It's like choosing any ol' boo, making it slightly bigger and accessorizing it with a hat that just happens to be a crown. Idk but that just always rubbed me wrong. King Boo of Luigi's Mansion ought to be the definitive King Boo.

EXPLANATION: King Boo has been my favorite character of all time since I was maybe 6, and I have a canon explanation that almost no one else has learned yet. Mario games aren't usually filled with lore but Luigi's mansion has a slight objection. REALITY EXPLANATION: After LM1 Nintendo thought king boo was too scary for kids and changed his design which can be seen in "Mario Kart Double Dash" and "Luigi Mansion 4coma Manga Kingdom". However, when dark moon released, Nintendo gave him more vibrant colors like purple and pink instead of the green and red. LORE EXPLANATION: King Boo explained to Luigi that he and Mario have annoyed some of the boos for a long time indicating since "Super Mario Bros 3" and so on. It must be that while he was away trying to get revenge on Mario and Luigi that he took 40 boos with him and temporarily replaced himself. Then he found Egadds lab in boo woods. Upon finding his favorite boo "Boolossus" in a painting and the other ghosts. He freed them and remade their old Mansion out of air like egadd explains. After that, The Original King Boo is always getting freed and captured again every Luigi's Mansion Game, while his temporary counterpart and the rest of his loyal boos await his never to arrive return. Hope you all are happy with what you learned :)

So far nothing has disproven that Luigi's Mansion takes place at the end of the timeline, so my headcanon is that whenever Bowser is killed off and the koopa army is completely disbanded King Boo became sour and moody and thus got the sunken eyes. Without bowser breathing down his neck he also had the time to find the magic stone in his crown which gave him more power.

my head canon in why king boo looks different in main Mario games and Luigi's games is because king boo gathers negative energy when in a normal Mario games that makes him more aggressive/more evil his body changes in the Luigi's games once hes full of evil, when he gets beaten by Luigi he returns to his more docile more rational self maybe something of a double personality that changes his attitude from time to time.

1.The Luigi's mansion version is how Luigi sees him so even if they're in Mario Kart Luigi would still see him as the version with red eyes and a jewel crown.
    2. Its another King Boo that rules a differently Ghost/Boo Kingdom. Similar to how Princess Peach rules the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Daisy rules Sarasaland. You could even add to that by making the Mario Sunshine King Boo a 3rd king that rules another Kingdom.

Do people just... not understand why King Boo has two separate designs?
King Boo looks scary in Luigi's Mansion because he's out for blood. He's a scary guy who wants you gone.
King Boo looks _not_ scary in other games because he's just having a little mischief. It doesn't fit his personality to have the LM design in those games.
I can't even imagine LM King Boo in a wacky singing ghost chase in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. He just doesn't fit that.
Furthermore, Luigi's Mansion King Boo in Mario Kart Tour? He's explicitly an alt. He's not a separate character. His name follows the alt naming scheme, and his emblem is the same as normal King Boo.
Several bios and pieces of evidence in past games have indicated that both King Boos are the same. The only King Boo that is a different character is Sunshine King Boo, as he's a drawing made by Bowser Jr's paintbrush.

  • @Wolfywolf7

I know I'm in the minority here, but I'll say it again. I just find something to be charming about a big Boo wearing a crown, and I am glad Nintendo created that design for him. Both designs work better for their respective game series, and I think it should stay that way.
I feel as if King Boo's jeweled crown not only gives him extra power, but it also messes with his mind quite a bit. If you've seen his mainline Mario game appearances, you can tell that he is significantly more chill in his dialogue and his actions than he is in LM. I wonder if that will be revealed to be the cause of his madness some time in a future installment.
Or maybe I'm wrong and there are actually multiple King Boos. I dunno.

King Boo has proven himself to be a real clever villain, so I can totally see him put fake versions of himself in the front-lines to tire out Mario and Luigi and then go for the final blow himself.

Edit: To Clarify I'm saying that Bowser dies at the end of the timeline for the mainline games, which is why he isn't resurrected and which is where the Luigi's Mansion series starts.

Idea #1: I think normal king boo should be a boss battle and once you kill him he comes back in a cool cut scene as Luigi's Mansion king Boo
Idea #2: normal king boo should be HUGE. Not just a slightly bigger version of a boo, but HUGE. This could also make him distinct from normal boos. This way there could be two different king boos that are both cool.
Idea #3: Normal king boo is the main boss. It would make sense. He is gathering wonder flowers and seeds to destroy the flower kingdom. He seems like he would know about wonder events too. Once the player finally reaches him he is too powerful and uses an army of dry bones and boos to destroy the kingdom. Mario could even ask kingdoms from Mario oddesy to help. The level would have lots of enemies in it and in the background and foreground like with the stampede stage. There would be the wonder event squiggle things everywhere
Idea #4: Mario asks dk for help with the war and you get to play as him and smash through dry bones and boos until king boo shows up and uses his jewel crown to transform into Luigi's Mansion king boo.
Idea #5: Bowser is still the main boss but once you defeat him, he turns into a super strong and cool looking dry bowser that makes you go all the way back to the starting level. There is a big cut scene of him destroying everything with fireballs raining from the sky and stuff. You can redo all the levels now except they are being destroyed. Dry Bowser can appear in the castle levels and you have to fight him.
