You can also achieve this in vanilla by mapping the void in the end with a glass layer over it. The glass + void will end up as invisible pixels on the map. 😊
I actually used the redstone torch replacement in a huge survival skyblock dungeon. Since the theme is water, I have waterlogged mangrove root "roots" everywhere on the ceiling, so any torch underneath gets replaced with a lit redstone torch, making it look dimmer and burnt out.

A build hack I use for ovens that’s super simple is an iron trapdoor on top of a furnace, and a birch one on the front :)
Something I like to do to make a stone fade, from light to dark or dark to light, is stone, then tuff, then deepslate bricks, and blackstone bricks :>

Mangrove Roots work very well as a sort of withered wooden plank if you build something like a rustic barn
