    Rating scales such as Likert scales and semantic differential scales are very common in marketing research, customer satisfaction studies, psychometrics, opinion surveys, and numerous other fields.
    Likert scales result when survey participants are asked to rank their agreement with survey items on a scale that includes strongly disagree, disagree, neither agree nor disagree, agree, and strongly agree. Some authors also include scales with other numbers of categories about attitude.

    Excellent Video! Side Note: I wish would would cover pivoting complex data and how to prevent adding massive amount of rows to the data source. Very hard to find information on this. For Example "Question 1" Data Vertical "1 Good", "2 Decent", "3 Bad". With multiple questions across columns when you pivot it then it will create the # of question columns multiplied by the # data set rows. So if 5 questions and 100 rows it would would create an additional 400 rows one for each question.

    Thank you - the tutorial is impressive! I was able to replicate the output with one set of data. It looks great :) I am trying to do the same with another data set but for some reason the 'gannt percent' calc is not restarting in the second set of cells. For example, in the tutorial data set the gannt percent column would jump from 48.9% under amenities and then add the lookup from that row's percent, adding 48.9% & 41.7% . So I have percentages that are cumulative down the gannt percent column where my ending percent for 8 questions is almost 700%. I have checked the formulas many times, and it all looks right to me. It is also calculating correctly for the first question. Any advice/thoughts are appreciated - thanks!

      @@ArtofVisualization Thank you. I have checked the formula many times. The odd part is I was able to get it to work when there was only one metric/guideline. It might have to do with the way the table calculation is being applied. It does not seem to 'restart' with each new guideline/question. I have the calcuations applied along my Rating (i.e., advanced, effective, emerging, novice). My rating is similar to the 'answer' in the tutorial. I wasn't able to figure out how to post as part of a comment in this thread, but created an album with screen shots: photos.app.goo.gl/PveGq7kgQoM5LafH9 (Hopefully it does not get deleted as spam)

    I used this and it was great, but I want the circles to contain the NPS instead of the score averages. I did it by adding columns in the crosstab called Positive Scores and Total Positive Scores that mirror the Negative Scores and Total Negative Scores columns in the video. Then I added columns for %Negative and %Positive and a final column called NPS that gets the difference between the %Positive and the %Negative columns. I was also able to add the visualization so it looks kind of okay. My problem is that I cannot seem to change the color of the circle as it is connected to the Answer dimension, and when I try to make the NPS label go on top of the circle the label disappears. Am I doing things wrong? Thank you!

      @latinopigeon1004 2 месяца назад

      This is pretty old, but I had the same issue, and want to leave a possible solution for future viewers.
      What I did as a workaround was creating a 'Nonzero Scores' to count all non-null responses as 1. I then just swapped the old Number of Records for this.
      Alternatively, doing old joins instead of the newer relationships is still possible and should fix this problem.

    Great video and tutorial! The only problem that I have is that you take the average of the responses; you cannot average numbers obtained from a likert scale because they are ordinal values. This is a common practice but quite frankly it's wrong and statistically it doesn't make sense.

    • @ArtofVisualization
      @ArtofVisualization  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Kirk, Thanks for your input here. Feel free to suggest an alternative.

    • @ToddJohnson15
      @ToddJohnson15 5 лет назад

      @@ArtofVisualization The alternative is to just not aggregate the scores--just use the response percentages as displayed in the divergent chart. Statistical analysis can be done using percentage of top responses, top two responses, bottom responses, etc. Technically, Likert scales are ordinal, so the mean makes no sense. That said, there is disagreement over this and even over whether the mode makes more sense. I always just use the divergent chart with the percents shown on each segment. For statistical analysis I use an analysis of means chart (for proportions) that allows the user to compare different groups (e.g., different staff members, hospitals, clinics, etc) on one or more questions based on the percent of responses on either top (1 or 2) or bottom (1 or 2) response categories. Nelson's Analysis of Means book has all the math for this. If you have a lot of comparators, the analysis of means chart can be displayed as a funnel plot with denominator on the x axis and % responses on the Y. Funnel limits are harder in Tableau with smooth limits requiring use of densification/domain padding.

    If you did a double pivot (unlike in this video) like Steve Wexler, then Number of Records won't work for you. When counting Negative Scores, you may have to use an LOD calculation:
    /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
    IF {INCLUDE [Response ID] : AVG([Measure Value])} < 3 THEN
    1
    ELSEIF {INCLUDE [Response ID] : AVG([Measure Value])} = 3 THEN

    ELSE
    0
    END
    ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

      Hi Gaurav, this field is created at around 5:57 of the video and a Calculated Field based on "Score" is used with a "Case" statement. It is defined as follows:
      Case [Score]
      When 1 then "Very Unsatiscatory"
      When 2 then "Unsatiscatory"
      When 3 then "Neutral"
      When 4 then "Satiscatory"
      When 5 then "Very Satiscatory"
      END

    Next time when you are making a video please go slow and also avoid using shortcuts.
