Bought my first one during COVID lockdown for 100usd at Walmart. It was great catching up on all the games I missed out on since launch. I def enjoy it more than my switch lite. Its great for emulation and ds stuff too. Ended up getting three more lol. So I've got a n2dsxl, n3dsxl, and two differed colored 2ds'. Really wanna try a Vita out someday. I'm broke but I might save for a New 3DS XL. And so I can finally create an old Nintendo ID, get my platinum points for linking it and I think you get points for visiting the shop weekly or has that shut down already? I forget
I got my 2Ds as a Christmas gift in 2019, and I’ve been having fun since. It wasn’t until a year I think? My brother and I decided to hack it or whatever it’s called (I honestly don’t know lmao, my brother is way better at things like that.) Got a switch in Christmas 2022, and I’ve also been having fun with it, but every few days or so, I get out my 2Ds and play some games on it. Honestly, it’s probably worth it, maybe because I got mine for me lol, but I would definitely recommend it.
Hi! I've been playing the n3DS (XL) for about a decade now, and I'm just in love with it. It's my favorite Nintendo console, tbh. I could talk for literal hours about how good this console and its games are, but I won't go into much details. I recently bought a second-hand 3DS XL (not the New one!). I bought it just so I could hack it (with Homebrew) and it is amazingly simple to do, and fun too! I did it by myself, with the guide you can find online. Now, I can use my 3DS's full potential and play the games I never played when I was younger because, well, I had to buy them. I can't stress this enough, but PLEASE Homebrew your DS it's so worth it so fun to do and you can literally do anything play any game even ROM hacks you can have full customisation for free and even do crazy stuff like watch recent films and movies on apps like hShop, which is like the eShop but free has (almost if not) every games. You can also play games like FNaF or DDLC with the 3DS port thing it's so cool oh my god. I'm ALWAYS playing on my hacked 3DS and I absolutely love it. If you're really scared of messing up and bricking your 3DS, I swear, -and I really REALLY mean it-, it's so hard to brick your console like seriously. It's such a easy thing to homebrew your 3DS I don't know how you could possibly brick it. It takes about an hour maybe less maybe more. Have fun with hacking your device, everyone! :) also I love that pokémon USUM is playing in the background
haha, I'm glad you liked the video! The 3DS is honestly my favorite piece of gaming hardware of all time, so I just knew I needed to make a video about it
Nice video my dude! Just some friendly critcism, it's super easy to see you constantly looking at your script haha, maybe pre-practice and form a little more and fix things up in editing or maybe pull your script close the lens! Either way good video!!
Thanks! Admittedly, it's been a while since I've recorded a video like this, so I was pretty out of practice for memorizing lines & hiding that I was reading off a script haha. I did not expect this video to do so well, but seeing as it did, I will definitely be working on hiding my scripts better in future videos
Just letting you know man you can actually inject games as virtual console titles so you can play them straight from the home screen and don't have to mess with Twilight menu. Works with consoles up to the SNES and Genesis and handhelds up to GBA and even a handful of PS1 games. Won't work for DS though so you'll still need twilight menu for that
Yeah, I learned about that right before finishing the script, but I decided it would probably be a bit too advanced for this video because I wanted this to be short and simple for people to use. If/When I make the follow-up to this video though, I'll definitely be talking about that!
I have a new 3ds already that i love. Recently, i bought a new 2DS xl to mod. This will be my first time modding a console so I didn’t wanna use my main one in case I mess it up as I didnt want to lose my saves (tho from what I’ve seen it seems pretty difficult for it to go That badly wrong). Plus the bigger screen is a nice bonus. I’m just waiting for it to arrive and then I’ll give it a go.
Haha, glad you liked it! Nintendo does really need to step up the quality for the pokemon games coming out. Pokemon's the #1 earning IP in the world for Pete's sake
Tell me about it. Even the ones that are beat up and scratched are sold for more than they cost new. Ebay has some good looking options from what I've seen though
@@JoelNickel1 even the 2ds xl is outrageously expensive. Wish I would've picked one up a few years ago when they were dirt cheap lol. I'm gonna keep searching ebay because i really want one.
ive already done this but i think its great that you made a video about it! im also interested in modding a psp or ps vita someday to get access to those libraries
I have a New 3DS XL and a 2DS, the 2DS is so much more comfortable to hold for extended play sessions, along with the sharpness of the screen because the video output hasn't been stretched out.
Hey man ! Great video and editing I really love it. But I noticed that you keep looking down to read the script, try to avoid that next time 😁 good luck !
I'd recommend to every handheld gaming enthusiast to get and/or keep at least a 3DS and a Vita, as the dual screen line of Nintendo probably won't be back and Sony won't release more portable consoles. A 3DS and a Vita gives you access to the last two generations of pure handheld consoles from Nintendo and Sony: DS, PSP, 3DS and Vita. Emulation is OK, but nothing compares to the experience of playing in real hardware, specially in peculiar handhelds like these.
It is worth it, some of the eshop games are available only on a new 3ds to download. Also, different topic, the PS vita works with PS3 and PS4 still and the store is open. Notice im not relaying MOD information, Because since we live in a disobedient society everybody illegally extracts games
Just commenting here to say that you dont always have to take out your SD card as you can use FTPD on the 3DS to move them remotely (plus there are amazing guides people can point you to on the homebrew discord about FTPD if you ask!)
I really want my 3ds back, the charging port on it broke and I never got it fixed, fortunately, I may ask my parents for one on my birthday and relive my childhood again, and of course being one of those Wii owners with home brew, I have to home brew it if I want to play stuff like CTGP-7 and more
I've homebrewed my OG 3DS and I want to buy a New 3DS soon but I'm torn between black and white. I think white looks better but I've never used a light handheld before. How does it feel playing it? Does the bright contrast make any difference?
Good point to bring up with the contrast. Hadn’t thought about it but now that you say it, I do think there is a slight difference between my white and dark blue new 3DS. The screens don’t get blended with the white, but there is just something about the brightness of the screen and a dark console that just works really nicely. White wouldn’t be a bad console color to try out for yourself though
I ended up finding a good deal for a new 3dslx galaxy edition for $40 at a pawn shop. worth it as thye had alot of games on the system already downloaded and the original user still signed in on the eshop (plan on redownloading the games on there on a bigger sd card and switching accounts to load up my games from the eshop.
I never had one as a kid. I wanted one but it wasnt in the budget. Im finally in a financial position to buy things for myself. Unfortunatley im saving for my wedding but my fiancee let me get a 3ds and it was only 140$cad and its in mint condition. Im so happy.
@@JoelNickel1 most of them go for 140 with out a charger, and 165-180 with inserts and box for the New 3ds xl models. Most Japanese sellers on eBay offer free shipping
Never had a handheld system until I got sick of my ps4 and PC on 2016 and I got a 3ds XL fire emblem fates edition with dual IPS screens and my first Pokémon sun/moon since blue in 1998. I really regret selling that for Hawaii wedding funds years ago....
I have 3 new 3ds xl types, Red, galaxy and fire embelm just in case I stored 1 away for future uses. If anyone foes have the games like collectors edition you should get cases for them as they will be worth something in the near future when the eshop closes. You can emulate these games kf you can't afford the games but there's more nostalgia to the physical games. My ps vita is modded but I don't really touch it as much as I used too.
You probably shouldn't be using emulators in Twilight menu since it'll run them in DS mode instead of 3DS mode so you'll get gimped performance compared to installing them directly onto your 3DS.
I'm well aware, don't worry. I spent almost 2 days deciding whether or not to talk about that in this video, but decided that it would be a bit too advanced, especially considering that this video is mostly just an overview of what you can do. If I'm able to do a more advanced part 2 though, I will definitely talk about installing those games directly!
With homebrew you can play all games complete with perfect screen from: Atari 2600 NES SNES GB GBC GBA DS 3DS Pls dont Try N64 and PS1. I have 512GB SD-Card inside and a lot of movies.
I have the OG 3ds… had it since 2013 but I don’t know if I should get the newer version though… the back L & R buttons on mine stopped working… I don’t have much block space left and it’s starting to get tough n hard to read all my cartridges unless I put them in a certain way… some cartridges pop up on the screen right away when I put em in but most of the others I just have to shake n move em to the left or right when I click it down in the little card slot just so it can read well and show up… and in smash bros 4 3DS it be laggin sometimes also sometimes but other than those problems… it’s been alive & working ever since then but it’s definitely not as good now as it was years back when I first had it 😅
ive been contemplating on modding my baby, my 3ds XL and 2ds i got as a gift for awhile now since im new to all this Homebrewing/modding stuff but if it means i get to play games i've missed out, or games ive always wanted to play on my 3ds but never had the money to buy, then honestly im down to do it. But question, do i need a lot of storage on my sd cards ? or does a 16gb work?
most games released on switch are shitty mobile ports or some old game you can play better on another system for way less money. Pretty sad. People brag about how big the switch library is but in true, most are just not good games at all. I have a switch and a xbox series, I pay 40 bucks in my local currency for xbox game pass, there is always new games to play, big amazing games, and outside of gamepass I still have a nice variety of new stuff to buy if I want to. Meanwhile each switch game sells for 300+ here, and there is very little I really want to play, the games I want to play are the ones who you can never get a good price for, so... I almost never use my switch for anything, maybe soon it will get hacked and become fun.
Yeah, when I was recording this I didn't think I was looking at the script so much, but evidently I was. Going forward I'm going to try to memorize my lines a bit better so it's less obvious that the script is right there
You should be aware that the 3DS eshop will go offline at the 27th of March. That means you cannot buy any new software nor redeem download codes. But you still can redownload your already owned games.
the opening quip was mostly satire, but I do think that the Switch games so far have been less than what could be done on the console. PLA was the first of the switch games that really had me invested.

Bro I just started looking into buying a 3DS 3 days ago this video is perfectly timed
Since the 3DS eshop is closing, now is a prime time to mod your 3DS
i love your hoodie! and i'm hoping to get one this week off ebay, im so excited. lets hope it comes in good condition lol
Subscribed!
If/When I make the follow-up to this video though, I'll definitely be talking about that!
you can do that with ds too
There are nds forwarderd to have nds games on your home menu without twlilight menu
Wow 30k in a few days! Congrats!
Thanks! I'm so grateful for all the support!
I got a New 3ds XL in November and I've loaded the thing with exclusive digitals.
Nice, better to do it before the eShop closes
@@JoelNickel1 That's my philosophy.
Played all the games on the switch, but yeah back on replaying the 3DS stuff. I still need to do the Homebrew
Great vid man just found your channel you earned a sub
That intro made me like the video. God damn right. I respect a man who tells the truth. We pokemon fans deserve better^^
Haha, glad you liked it! Nintendo does really need to step up the quality for the pokemon games coming out. Pokemon's the #1 earning IP in the world for Pete's sake
@@JoelNickel1 Amen
It's so hard to find a 3ds that is in good shape and a decent price.
I'm gonna keep searching ebay because i really want one.
same haha
ive already done this but i think its great that you made a video about it! im also interested in modding a psp or ps vita someday to get access to those libraries
Totally worth. I even have a 2DS and playing it daily.
that's awesome!
Notice im not relaying MOD information, Because since we live in a disobedient society everybody illegally extracts games
hey dude, nice video. i liked it. keep it up.
Just commenting here to say that you dont always have to take out your SD card as you can use FTPD on the 3DS to move them remotely (plus there are amazing guides people can point you to on the homebrew discord about FTPD if you ask!)
Yep! FTPD is an awesome tool, but I still tend to prefer transferring large files over an SD card just for time's sake
@@JoelNickel1 do the same with large games and homebrew but will use FTPD for smaller things that dont have a QR Code
Hey! Ur camera quail out is great! What camera do you use?
I use a Sony A6100 with a Sony 18-105 Lens!
Owning both the Wii U & 3DS with homebrew would be the ultimate Nintendo experience
Ordered a used one to mod. Idk why they don’t just port all these old games onto the switch if they don’t want people doing this lol
I really want my 3ds back, the charging port on it broke and I never got it fixed, fortunately, I may ask my parents for one on my birthday and relive my childhood again, and of course being one of those Wii owners with home brew, I have to home brew it if I want to play stuff like CTGP-7 and more
Nice video man
I've homebrewed my OG 3DS and I want to buy a New 3DS soon but I'm torn between black and white.
Va-11 Hall-A OST, nice!
Anyone want to buy a 3ds xl for me, I have a sob story!! Totally not guilt tripping right?
I ended up finding a good deal for a new 3dslx galaxy edition for $40 at a pawn shop. worth it as thye had alot of games on the system already downloaded and the original user still signed in on the eshop (plan on redownloading the games on there on a bigger sd card and switching accounts to load up my games from the eshop.
I just bought a 3DS XL 2 days ago. Was curious what was on my old Platinum and White versions of Pokemon. Nice little surprises indeed.
I bought a new 3ds XL last week, started and completed Fairune last night. Yes the 3DS is worth it.
Nice video!
Thanks!
I never had one as a kid. I wanted one but it wasnt in the budget. Im finally in a financial position to buy things for myself. Unfortunatley im saving for my wedding but my fiancee let me get a 3ds and it was only 140$cad and its in mint condition. Im so happy.
I have a Question where did you buy 3ds console I want buy this and what price
Buen video, tienes mi suscripción
feels like a modern vintage gamer video lol
Haha, In some ways I guess it does xD
I ordered a Japanese 3ds last week! I know Japanese, but now I’m kinda tempted to mod that 3ds, I don’t want to mod my American 3ds
Nice! I might end up picking a Japanese model up depending on how much cheaper it is than local options
@@JoelNickel1 most of them go for 140 with out a charger, and 165-180 with inserts and box for the New 3ds xl models. Most Japanese sellers on eBay offer free shipping
I just bought a N3DS to play Minecraft on the go. XD I love the 3DS, never moved on from it.
great video!
I saw 3hs on your home screen at 2:48 a fellow pirate I see
Never had a handheld system until I got sick of my ps4 and PC on 2016 and I got a 3ds XL fire emblem fates edition with dual IPS screens and my first Pokémon sun/moon since blue in 1998. I really regret selling that for Hawaii wedding funds years ago....
its sad that you cant buy games anymore on the eshop
0:35 I have this reference 😂
I have this project for a long time. Don't know if we can play PS2 games down here
I have 3 new 3ds xl types, Red, galaxy and fire embelm just in case I stored 1 away for future uses.
I modded my switch and I have a modded 3DS and I love both of them so much.
Last year I went to get a New 3ds XL galaxy edition for 230 and I really like the nostalgia around it
With homebrew you can play all games complete with perfect screen from:
Atari 2600
NES
SNES
GB
GBC
GBA
DS
3DS
Pls dont Try N64 and PS1.
A 16gb card is more than enough! You only need more storage if you plan on installing a bunch of huge games
@@JoelNickel1 Is 32gb enough for let's say 10 or so games??
@@adegokudae8620 it depends on the games, but yeah, it should be!
@@JoelNickel1 ah perf then because my plan was trying to mod my 3ds and then just install mostly like 4 pokemon games and 3 other ones.
most games released on switch are shitty mobile ports or some old game you can play better on another system for way less money. I almost never use my switch for anything, maybe soon it will get hacked and become fun.
you should memorize your script instead of looking at it awkwardly every two seconds
It's a lot harder than it seems. Especially with my ADHD. A teleprompter would help but that's a future investment for me
Literally look through the comments for this comment lol
@@JoelNickel1 perhaps using more b rolls instead of showing you looking at the scrip so badly might help. Other than that great video.
Just bought a N3DSXL with dual IPS screen (Japanese unit), can't wait until it arrives.
"objectively better games" *ultra sun and moon playing in the background*
lmao
He’s right
the opening quip was mostly satire, but I do think that the Switch games so far have been less than what could be done on the console.
PLA was the first of the switch games that really had me invested.
You forgot to mention the 2DS & 2DS XL as options.
I could have been more clear on that, sorry. I assumed that people would think of the 2ds/2dsxl under the "3DS" term
@@JoelNickel1 Understandable. I bought a 2DS as a replacement for my 2DS XL last year because my 2DS XL has a cracked top screen but I will eventually get my 2DS XL fixed.
@@tyronejennings599 Ah, that's unfortunate your XL broke. Hope you're able to get it fixed though!
@@JoelNickel1 Ikr it's a good thing that I bought a 2DS as a replacement. I'm gonna continue to build my 3DS/DS library
