I just imported what should have been a beautiful MH Cross edition 3ds LL. I was hunting specifically for this unit, found one where I loved the pictures and condition, paid a premium to get it, and wouldn’t you know it, it’s not the one that was shown in the pictures. Now we’re going thru the motions of a return or adequate refund based on what I paid. Total bust that I couldn’t avoid if I wanted to. Glad you had great luck with yours
Or you could purchase a US Reigon Motherboard, Then Take Apart The 3DS And Swap The JPN Motherboard For The US One, Then You Will End Up With A Cheap US 3DS
dual IPS ll is a great value. I did this a few months ago and paid a similar price. I put american firmware on it and its been great. unfortunately I was trying to replace the top screen protector and my pry tool slipped and made a big gash in the screen. I was pretty upset, but switched over my decent bottom IPS to my XL with a top ips. A lot of work from what should have been a quick swap.
Japan takes great care of their products, I have never once regretted buying sth directly from Japan. I’m glad content creators such as yourself are spreading awareness because this is how it should be, but sadly Western sellers think a half-broken screen 3DS should be worth $300, just ridiculous…
I wondered why N3DS LLs were so common. I had a very hard time finding US N3DSses in comparison to the LL. I've already gotten an XL off of a friend, but if I ever get a new one, I might go for an LL.
If I recall correctly based on a RUclips video I watched back in the day, New 3DS had a late launch in countries covered by the 'U' system region (North America, Middle East, and Southeast Asia) because some… people… at Nintendo of America thought that it would be too small for the hands of gamers based in the US and Canada. However, the New 3DS XL did launch in that system region. This was a problem for me in Singapore because the Nintendo systems sold to us here were U region rather than E region, and I wanted the smaller N3DS for its replaceable cover plates. I also wanted an E region 3DS and Wii U so I could play the NOE English (UK English) localisations instead of the NOA English (US English) localisations, but at the time I couldn't afford to get them imported. The region lock shock was also a problem for me when trying to play Wii Fit on a console my school had in their special needs resource centre as it asked for measurements in Imperial units instead of Metric that we use here, while my family members I'd visit in Australia had theirs display Metric because they could get E region consoles.
Late to the party, but I was skeptical about this New 3DS LL i saw on ebay for $79, seller was very fast and responsive even with a somewhat obvious language difference. Shipped in about 2 days and was at my home in the US another 3 or so days later. It was listed as very much functional but cosmetically flawed, about a 2 inch chip in the paint, which is even less noticeable in the real world than in the listing. Homebrew and region swap took about 90 minutes total and i have an amazing console for 80 bucks. Would recommend!
Hey there! Do you have a link to the seller's page? That would be much appreciated. I really want one for myself, I hope the seller you bought it from has more to sell.
@@temporarydream “64-xmjmfccd” should bring up search results for the seller, but they as a team appear to be more of a resell anything they can find of value, such as designer fashion, more so than electronics. But I would definitely keep an eye out!
I was looking to spend 200$ for an excellent condition or better 3DS LL, I ended up buying a red one with luigi's mansion (I hacked mine so its no longer region locked) for 230 which was over my budget, but this thing looked MINT on pictures. Holding it in hand I'm even more impressed, the only issues is minor scratches on the glossy front/back but thats IT. Super stoked. Came with box, manual, and a seemingly new charger. Pain to get it home brewed (took 2-3 hours) but well worth it.
Unfortunately I bought "new, unopened" N3DS XL Limited edition Pikachu from online seller and obviously TN screens, chewn on stylus, screen protector on top screen and seller just saying he regrets he did not check when he bought it from someone. Seller had like 98,9% positive ratings and plenty of items sold. I would have though it was one time slip if not another japanese seller that sold me "new, never opened" PS Vita that had a lot of fine scratches on the back (visible if you tilted console in the sunlight). Obviosuly prices for "new" are 30% higher and you get at best mint item. Maybe its not true for all but then another seller from Japan was supposed to send me TPU shell and he sent me PC one. I had taken pictures etc and got it returned (seller tried to make me pay for return!) and delivered correct one in the end. I just think there is plenty of not sincere people on Ebay that try to sell things hoping buyer wont notice...
Do note that Japanese (or Asian region) 3DSes are prone to yellowing screens, particularly on the corners and edges of the screen. Likely due to higher humidity levels in tropical climates. In fact in the video above where there are two 3DSes side by side, you can clearly see the yellowed corners on the screens. North America/Europe models are also susceptible but much milder. It's probably hardware 'ageing' but some say its just the adhesive used in the LCD panels. Thankfully it is not an issue while playing a game unless the game has a predominantly white background. I use one of my 3DS-XL which has the worst yellowish tinge to play darker themed games like Luigi's Mansion and Metroid Samus Returns, or games that do not have white menu screens. Just have to improvise instead of crying over spilt milk.

I personally have not gotten a device from ebay over my 20 years of buying on there that didn't meet or exceed my expectations. I go by the images, make sure there are good images, and have not been let down. The only time I got a little scammed was getting a Nokia X3 Slider phone in 2009ish and it came in a wrong color. HOWEVER the phone was actually in better condition than I expected. It said it would be scratched up a bit but I couldn't see the scratches.

Japanese people are, in general, just plain cleaner and better about taking care of their electronics than Americans, who will get everything from Cheetoh dust to dandruff and soft drink spills and food crumbs all over their system and never clean them. Seriously. It extends beyond the electronics, too. Do you know that in Japanese schools you may be expected to stay behind after class, all the students, and clean up, rather than leave it for the janitor? The streets are cleaner, people's homes are neater - there are ALWAYS individual exceptions of course - neat Americans and careless individuals in Japan - but we're talking general case here. SO, it's not really surprising. I've gotten used things from Japan before and it's always been exactly as described, nice condition, often damn near pristine, as though they'd very carefully handled the case whenever opening, say, a Playstation 1 game, carefully avoided any scratching of the discs, and dusted regularly, such that the thing would arrive with the jewel case basically flawless. Meanwhile, you get a PS1 game from a US based seller, you're lucky if there's not scratches on the disc, a cracked case and so on.

Due to the different “electricity..” the American ones are so overpriced and it could be so scratched up but selling for 200+ dollars.
@@greeneyelightskin746 So, both the Japan and American 3ds will always charge at 4.7V 300ma. If you buy an American charger for one, it will work with every 3ds. I would suggest Macari. There is a Japanese seller that has a wide range and better reliability. Hope this helps.
I’m only looking to see the difference between new ll and a new XL. If they have a different design from each other or have better specs in one. Either ways I’d hack it and download a region switch ctrl transfer file.

I bought a loose US New 3ds XL (console only+ charger+ some games on SD card) on ebay for about $200. Right when I did that - a local one with games popped up for $180 on FB market place. Ebay has tons of them, but to wait that long and deal with the cons - I'd just pay the extra. If you could get a deal maybe the LL is worth it , but I did't see one for less than $160 after shipping, so I just don't think the discount is worth it when you can realistically find them for $200 on ebay or locally (most places in the US at least)
It’s about 10% of N3DS XL’s to have an IPS screen, Japanese or not. Certain models like the yellow Pikachu edition have a 0% chance due to when they were manufactured, while later manufactured ones like the Hyrule edition are far more likely to have at least one IPS screen
It seems to be the same ratio as other regions. The bottom IPS screen seems to be the most rare. For example: I currently have a few N3DS LL in my apartment right now, here is the break down. Majora mask edition Top IPS Black Top IPS Lime x black bottom IPS Blue dual TN White pearl dual TN White pearl Dual IPS Small N3DS Mario marker dual TN

Fortunately for me i already can read Japanese. So i got an evee edition 3ds from Japan. Tbh the special edition was a bit pricey but it was worth it. You can get a Japanese 3ds pretty cheap and mod it just like you could any 3ds. Moding it will make it region free at least so you could play any 3ds game on it. With no problem. It wont teansform the games language to Japanese. So the game will stay in English. It just will be the home menu will be in Japanese.
The Japanese rating system seem on Ebay a little odd... I just got a PS Vita, in "Excellent" condition (as you pointed out, that's lower middle of the range). My PS Vita was in perfect condition (no scratches, battery seems good as new, screen looks great, buttons and sticks are great). The only thing that wasn't perfect was the box (it was still pretty good, and I don't really care about the box). SO, I'm wondering if the ratings are for the overall package, not just the console itself.... I'm headed to Japan next week and plan to pickup a 3DS, so this is very helpful. Thanks!

Hi, I’m new to these stuff and i just bought a 3ds that is region-locked for Japan because there’s this Japanese game that I really wanted to play. So my question is.. Is it possible to change the language to English without changing the region?
So I was just gifted a 3ds LL and it was all in English and works with English titles. Now I don't know who the seller was or what they did to the ds but I do know that It is possible. Don't know how but it is possible

i got a 3ds ll imported and after seeing this checked the screens and both are ips, despite not saying that on the listing, wasn't something i was looking for in particular, got lucky i guess!
I just got one of the Japanese (converted to English) LL Model 3DS’s off of Mercari & it is In Excellent Condition as well! You know at the end of the day those average prices that we are seeing in your video is actually really reasonable because think of the many games that you can have on your system have the knowledge once you get it because it covers the cost or it's actually less than the amount of games you would have actually realistically bought if you had another chance at getting the system while he was new so I think everyone should be grateful that there is at least a system of bailable there for less than 500 let's say you know when he gets to 1000 and you know something's up but you know 300 alright 200 great 150 wow good

Though I guess I got lucky as my original (not XL) New 3DS also has dual IPS, but is in terrible condition now.
What seller did you buy from and was it from ebay?

6:13 one word to change the region and unlock it, homebrew.
plus you can patch the language
dual IPS ll is a great value.
Bro really got one for $79, while I have to pay $200 for a Japanese system 😭.
Great video, I'm lucky as is to be rocking a single IPS screen 3DS.
I think top IPS display is better but dual is a bit unnecessary
It's thanks to videos like this that will make even the Japanese 3DS go up in price
Ive never heard an accent like this unironically before...its very interesting
Caaarl that kills people!
I managed to get 2 dual IPS New 3DS XL's in about two weeks with some luck and some searching. There seem to be more of them in Europe
Thanks, Ordered 2 Japanese 3ds LL to mod. One to keep (for now) and one to sell post mod.. Going to order a new 3ds LL next after i sell the first one(s) and keep or sell depending on which one i like better. Certainly selling my og USA 3ds because i love the bigger displays. Great video!
is it possible to change the system language if you mod it?
I had 3ds xl, but my ex wife took it. So i bought new 3ds LL japanese version, but it's region free.
Great video, subscribed!
I bought an NA system from a local game store and I thought I had top IPS and bottom TN screen but doing your test, I think I actually have double TN screens. :O
You could try dunking the yellowed parts in peroxide, but idk how that would affect said parts' structural integrity.
I got one about 2 weeks ago, it was that exact same one, pearl white. When it can in there was a hole in the package and the 3DS wasn’t in it. 😭
wtf. Hope you got a refund.
Yes I did and I got a different one off marketplace for cheaper. So I’m all good now 😁
Lmaoooo did the delivery guy take it or something😂
Pirate games? I would never do that
your voice reminds me of kermit
Second Hand software is also piracy.
Piracy means that people get to play the game without any payment going to the devs.
So stop beeinf iffy about piracy we all do that. And also play a game with friends and family. By the law if you buy a license only you can use it
The devs were payed, I’m some cases, a decade ago at this point. The devs got their paycheck and do not care - a Junior dev
There's a lot that are about $70 refurbished or lightly damaged but working, and the one's for parts (not working or too glitchy from damage) about $15-$45
And the Japanese ones are really cheap compared to english
I got one like a week ago and modded it and it works like a charm
Couple years ago, after they stop allowing us to buy Eshop games I decided to buy a few 3DS games in Japan to play but turns out it doesn’t work on my Australian one 😭
Freaking love the jet set radio music
8:30 Download play works just fine. I have 3, and all of them work with each other. If you regen swap using software, you may or may not loose access to the eshop; wich is fine sence we have hshop.
Have you ever purchased a Japanese 3Ds off eBay? My parents are scared of buying one off eBay from a Japanese seller, they believe it will catch flames and spark from charging it.
Just bought a Japanese 3ds xl for 93$ and there’s no scratches! And in good condition (I just bid on the console it was not already 93$)
it's only logical to pirate 3ds games, now more than ever. the eshop's closed and game companies don't make any money from resellers
I’m only looking to see the difference between new ll and a new XL. If they have a different design from each other or have better specs in one. Either ways I’d hack it and download a region switch ctrl transfer file.
Got my japan new 3ds xl in lime green for $145 in prestine condition
There are a bunch of Japanese 3ds games where you can change the language to English.
Great review!
“Do not hack it to pirate games” hahahahaha I would NEVER do that totally hahahahahahahahha
100% every single listing on fb around me is over $150 and the condition is bad
Sorry if a dumb Q but is it only the new 3DS that has the IPS panel(s)? I actually never knew about the IPS until I saw this video. Now I’ve started looking around, and I found some sellers with it mentioned.
Does anyone know that if i were to buy a “region free” 3DS from eBay would i technically be able to play any game from ANY region on it as the descriptions of the product claim??
Yes. They have already been region unlocked saving you the effort for the premium.
I got one on Amazon for 330, happen to be dual IPs and already have Luna installed. I got a Japanese one too “like new” and it’s perfect. The America one was def shell swapped, but they are both dual IPs.
Who cares?
Sounds like you are saying hecking your 3DS.
“Do not pirate game” bro they dont sell them anymore and im not spending 100+ for a game
Most games are under $40-$50 the only game I want that’s more than 100 is metal gear.
Nintendo is so damn stingy like Apple not including ips screens by default
I bought a loose US New 3ds XL (console only+ charger+ some games on SD card) on ebay for about $200. Right when I did that - a local one with games popped up for $180 on FB market place. Ebay has tons of them, but to wait that long and deal with the cons - I'd just pay the extra. If you could get a deal maybe the LL is worth it , but I did't see one for less than $160 after shipping, so I just don't think the discount is worth it when you can realistically find them for $200 on ebay or locally (most places in the US at least)
No one cares
Great video, you got a sub from me. Keep up the good work!
I can't really tell the difference at all.
Do all 3DS LL systems have IPS displays, compared to American 3DS XL only having TN displays? Or did they replace the screen themselves?
It’s about 10% of N3DS XL’s to have an IPS screen, Japanese or not. Certain models like the yellow Pikachu edition have a 0% chance due to when they were manufactured, while later manufactured ones like the Hyrule edition are far more likely to have at least one IPS screen
It seems to be the same ratio as other regions. The bottom IPS screen seems to be the most rare.
For example:
I currently have a few N3DS LL in my apartment right now, here is the break down.
Majora mask edition Top IPS
Black Top IPS
Lime x black bottom IPS
Blue dual TN
White pearl dual TN
White pearl Dual IPS
Small N3DS Mario marker dual TN
If you want your Japanese 3ds to be English mod it everyone is doing it since Nintendo closedown the Eshop
I have an old 3DS but I really wanted the XL
My deal was getting my new 3ds xl Galaxy edition from a friend for 25$ cause he didn't want it anymore he also gave me a copy of pokemon ultra sun with it but my brother lost that somewhere
How the invisible dog you're petting?
me when he said don't pirate games: *evil laugh*
Did he ever mention the seller who he bought the 3DS from on eBay?
Fortunately for me i already can read Japanese. So i got an evee edition 3ds from Japan. Tbh the special edition was a bit pricey but it was worth it. You can get a Japanese 3ds pretty cheap and mod it just like you could any 3ds. Moding it will make it region free at least so you could play any 3ds game on it. With no problem. It wont teansform the games language to Japanese. So the game will stay in English. It just will be the home menu will be in Japanese.
So will I be able to access the EShop with my 3DS LL if I follow these steps?
or you can go in to settings and change the region
i got a japanese hot pink new 3ds ll for such a steal and after homebrewing it, i can say its so worth it
The Japanese rating system seem on Ebay a little odd... Thanks!
How do you know to look for dual IPS screens?
At this point, modifying your 3DS is a foregone conclusion. You can unlock the region with this method.
I just bought a broken 3DS Japanese, for parts to swap my USA motherboard inside it.. when I received it was a brand new mint white 3DS xl .. idk what to do now because it’s only in Japanese
Everything works it’s got no scratches but the listing said for parts or junk lol 😆
Funny part is I was watching this very video just before it arrived..
Do the language mod no need to swap
So with these region locked from Japan can I use the hshop on these?
I can't focus on what you're saying. Too busy dodging those hands.
Hopefully we can bring the streetpass groups back again :-)
I found a new 3ds xl locally for $40 the only problem was it had a sticking analog stick.
So uh, I was curious with my Metallic Red New 3DS XL and it actually haves dual IPS Screen, I'm pretty lucky for sure.
I'm going to pirate games
911, whats your Emergency?
Im reporting you lil bro 😂
I just purchased the exact same 3ds and I didn’t even realize it had different screens until I compared it to my American 3ds. We’re you able to buy games from the Japanese e shop? It’s telling me I have to buy a prepaid card with yen and I can’t use a credit card. I’m honestly confused and I want to download some games before the e shop closes.

I have Pokémon crystal on my 2ds and saved data and other stuff. Been thinking about getting a Japanese 3ds and switching region to US. If I do this am I able to transfer data and profile from my 2ds to the 3ds?
The game data is on your carts but can’t transfer your Nintendo profile.
Just got one for $140 and it’s in good shape. 3Ds XL 😮💨
How much were the import fees and taxes
Usually if The product is below $800 it’s sent like any other piece of mail but if you happen to buy something over $800 and you’re trying to get your item to the US you have to pay custom fees I had the same question but I literally just bought a 3DS and I had to pay no custom fees whatsoever
@@ohcamryn nice
i got a 3ds ll imported and after seeing this checked the screens and both are ips, despite not saying that on the listing, wasn't something i was looking for in particular, got lucky i guess!

I just got one of the Japanese (converted to English) LL Model 3DS’s off of Mercari & it is In Excellent Condition as well!
I paid more than what most would probably consider, however it is in near mint condition with no scratches on the screens and no signs of wear on the inside of the device at all- it is also modded and has hundreds of the best games on it from all errors of game boy up to the 3DS!!
It is freaking nice!!
You know at the end of the day those average prices that we are seeing in your video is actually really reasonable because think of the many games that you can have on your system have the knowledge once you get it because it covers the cost or it's actually less than the amount of games you would have actually realistically bought if you had another chance at getting the system while he was new so I think everyone should be grateful that there is at least a system of bailable there for less than 500 let's say you know when he gets to 1000 and you know something's up but you know 300 alright 200 great 150 wow good
Can you play r4 card games on Japanese 3ds in English?
Why don’t you mention that you can change the 3ds NAND to USA super easily
