For a Ver. Ka, the design is very simplistic and Anime accurate. Which is unexpected for a Ver. Ka because most of them are hyper detailed. But it’s a welcome surprise because it shows Katoki made this with love for the series in mind.
"most of them are hyper detailed" what? The only MG ver.Ka kits that are considered very detailed are Nu and Sazabi and his recent work, WingZero EW. The rest barely have any surface details, they rely on massive uses of marking decals.
Only his MG nu, Sazabi, and RX78 has the amazing extra surface detail. The rest are pretty much not really that different in terms of extra details except Unicorn and SInanju stein, but both are his creation since the beginning, not reimagining other designers work like he did on the three. But yeah, I really want this kid to have at least similar style to the RG ones
I think people who say this haven't built it, the frame is ridiculously detailed, and the accents and color apps on this kit are stupid. If you've built the Gunpla Evolution Project Zeta you know what I mean - endless stickers and still missing colors. This thing has painted silver parts poking through all over. The armor itself is fairly plain and flat, it's a clean design and the kind of clinical aesthetic I would actually expect, without needless panel lines. It's busy enough as it is, and it goes together in an astonishing amount of layers. Each panel line you see in the armor frame is from layered parts. The behind the knee frame is actually marvelously detailed, as is the frame parts underneath the armor skirts. The leg build alone is layer after layer of individual plastic pieces that fit together like a puzzle. The hip armor also has a mechanical rotating hinge joint, and a hinge with the beam saber inside. The wings are also more detailed than other Zeta kits with additional color apps and hinges. It's probably one of the most complex builds I've seen, let alone built myself.
A neat bit of trivia, those silver fins poking out of the chest that are synonymous with Katoki designs are actual funcional parts of an aircraft, they’re called vortex generators, you can read more on them online but the gist of what they do is basically help keep an aircraft stable during flight and reduce drag
It’s such a good design element that goes under appreciated but definitely adds to the realism of his designs
Thanks for the trivia 👍
Tho I still don't like it. Fortunately we still have 2.0. But it's different situation for MG ZZ, where that kit just released as old, outdated kit or the newer and better Ver Ka, but with design flare that I don't like.
Kinda like "Just take it, or take it then modify it yourself, or leave it".
Ah, Nu Gundam too.
I never like its overall design, to the extent of picking the old-outdated-but-unique 2000's release one than the Ver Ka.
@@itsmepamz2477 I'd rather Bandai make the Nu Gundam ver2.0. The Ver.Ka is completely overblown with out-of-lore pyschoframes everywhere and Unicorn transformable wannabe.
@@NgocLinh-iv9cg Finally you said the thing what I want to say for a long time, but gunpla builder community in country where I live mostly in more favor of the overblown detail, out-of-lore psychoframe everywhere and Unicorn transformation wannabe design from MG Nu Ver Ka, like they prefer MG Granddaddy 3.0 and Origin over the 2.0.
Fun fact for anyone who doesnt know, the silver fins on the chest are called "vortex generators".
Basically makes little pockets of air swirling on the surface so as wind hits the surface, it reduces drag using the vortexes as cushions. Think of it like how water flies off surfaces treated with hydrophobic chemicals.
That’s rad
That's neat lore, and it makes (some) sense on the Zeta. That said, it seems like a rather hollow excuse for a Katoki design flourish, and a pretty unnecessary excuse at that. The fins are there because he thought they'd look cool. They're there for the same reason they're on the Nu Ver Ka for the same reason they're on the ZZ Ver Ka for the same reason they're on most any other mecha design. (They're also huuuge. Vortex generators are supposed to be tiny, dozens and dozens of them scattered along a wing or something, not two big honkin' blades on each side of the chest. At "full scale" you could probably repurpose them as wings of their own for a small drone...)
And besides, any practical benefit they might provide is minimal at best. Wave Rider mode already doesn't look particularly aerodynamic; putting vortex generators on it isn't going to suddenly turn it into a hypersonic VF-25. To me it looks like putting a sail on top of a high-rise apartment building and then pointing at it, proclaiming, "Look! Aerodynamic!".
I thankfully learned about vortex generators watching car videos.
Thanks for your information, tho I still didn't like it. Fortunately, there is still decent (or better, imo) 2.0 available. Unlike ZZ, Wing Zero EW(Custom), and Nu. But the ZZ is still tolerable for me personally, but not for the rest.
And basically almost completely closed the opportunity for those kits to be released as anime accurate MG 2.0.
Man thats a lot of invalid replies telling me the cool detail is in fact Not Cool (an invalid opinion, as previously stated)
Saw this in another review. The rifle does lock closed. You just have to push it in harder
My very first kit 25 years ago that got me into Gunpla was the Zeta MG 1.0 and to see this kit get such an upgrade is awesome. Sadly, because of all the times I had to move addresses, my kit got lost
🎶 I wanna have a pure time,
Everyone's a noble mind 🎶
Awesome review as always Zaku!!!
The ver ka has been engineered good. Like it a lot, and can't wait for my preorder to arrive.
it is also a Ver.Ka kit that isn't hyper stylized with extra details as in they kept it simple and more anime accurate.
God I can't wait to get my ver.ka zeta from usags I love the zeta and can't wait to build this!
This is actual art, I know it’s very decisive, but I think the old look has so much character and charm I can’t help but like it. Super excited for mine. It’s going to go right onto my desk with my PC. It’s not very Ver.ka but it for me it might be my favorite thing I own besides my RG GP01 FB. Should be coming in a couple days!🔥
For those wondering why this kit lacks the detailed surface that's typical of a Ver. Ka. kit, as well as having smaller wings and a deeper chest armor, this was apparently due to wanting the kit design to be as show accurate as possible
It's funny that people complain not enough surface detail for a ver ka when he has shown time and time again in previous drawings he did of zeta that he likes his zeta clean. From mg 1.0 to hguc to metal robot spirits where they all had clean surfaces.
he may have wanted it to be more show accurate but he failed miserably.
having a less detailed kit for me is such a refreshing choice after getting something like MGEX strike freedom which nearly looks like those Chinese mecha model kits. not to mention most ver. ka actually doesn't have as many details as everyone thinks because it always covers its surfaces using decals.
@@RizkT511 i dont really care how detailed a kit is unless its mg jegan levels of bad, but the proportions of this kit are all over the place.
@@lonewolf646 i can see why, i don't really like the proportion too but the waverider mode really sold me for it. Still, it's just my taste.
thank you for this review Zaku Aurelius
Of course they had to delay it before I went to Japan at the end of March! I wish I could’ve gotten my hands on it 😭
Looking at flying wave rider mode it looks nicely slimmer like a red, yellow, white and blue space shuttle when viewed underneath.
It would be awesome to see Bandai use this to make updated versions of the A1 and C1! I would definitely buy an updated A1 (I know that there is a new HG, but I prefer MGS)
and red vipee
You don't wanna know how many people I'd kill for a Zeta Plus C1 ver. Ka.
Awesome video
The coolest gimmick imo is that the cockpit seat rotates when u transform it to waverider so that kamille still sits upright even when u open the cockpit during ma mode
i'm not a huge fan of the zeta, but having built the HG Re-GZ recently i'd be really interested if they took parts of this kit to make a new MG Re-GZ
I have finally decided to get the ver ka since I had a bad experience for breaking the waist part of my 2.0 back in those days LOL don't really want to get these fragile transformable MS but looking at all the reviews, guess I can give it a try LOL waiting for the arrival of my kit, my first kit in 2024
I’m thinking the hyper mega launcher and launch base will come with a titanium finish version of the kit or something when Bandai eventually makes that. The 2.0 F91 was missing the rafflesia action base that the 1.0 MG had, but the titanium finish 2.0 came with it as an extra. This way Bandai doesn’t have to *kill* the previous version, there are still valid reasons to get it (other than just aesthetics)
I get they were going for a clean look with this, but it doesn’t look as visually striking as other Ver Ka kits. It did make me appreciate the Zeta’s design though, so it’s something
It may not be the best Ver. Ka to date, but I do believe it is the best Zeta kit to date.
Apparently, this is because they wanted it to be as close as possible to how the MS looks in the anime, hence the lack of surface details that is typical in a Ver. Ka. kit
@@titan133760 yeah I remember reading that was his goal throughout the whole design process. I think they achieved what they set out to do. Im excited to build this kit. I know a lot of people seem to be disappointed by it.
@@titan133760 aahh. I really hate purists. I remember they whined about mg freedom 2.0.. they have the old kits for anime accuracy so I cant see why they are whining. And bandai listens to them, hence this boring Ver Ka..
its so animation accurate down to the transformation sequence
Thank you !
wow you're early for a new kit now zach
I think the way the flying armor pulls out and extends on the 2.0 helps give the wave rider mode a better look. Personally the Ver ka waverider looks kind of chubby and like it would have trouble flying. That being said I think it’s not a huge issue if you have no plans to display it in Waverider.
I like your understated "swivel" and "ab crunch" comments but at the same time I had to look around and see if Jobby the Hong was in the room. ;)
Wonder if they're gonna make Ver.Ka Zeta Plus A1 and C1 since they're both designed by Katoki
This is the first time in a while that our boi uploaded a review before MechGai right?
I think I'll keep the 2.0 in it's waverider form for display and have the VerKa in suit form. I do prefer the larger wings of the 2.0
Haven't been too many Gunpla releases to interest me lately, but I will probably be picking this one up. I built the RG a few years back and while some don't like it, it's one of my favorite kits. The Ver. ka looks great, but visually a little lacking compared to the RG.
This truly is... The advance of Zeta
Juts btw the gun DOES lock if you click in place here at 3:08.. You just need to give a bit of a push in.
It looks really cool, but I literally just received the 2.0 when this one was announced. I have a nice MG Zeta Gundam series collection and this would have been a nice centerpiece for that display though.
Im so glad they went for the a more anime accurate desing, its pretty much the perfect z kit.
The kit looks great but the head. I wish it was a bit smaller at least. The Hg revive's head looks better, they could've use that one as a reference.
love how the upper torso is chonky
Definitely looks better with Decals.
The silver bits poking though the armor look so weird. This feels more like Katoki couldn't decide if he was going for anime accuracy or a realism
The beam rifle also can lock when its collapsed to inside you will hear the clicks😅
i have a question: can you swap the entire hands of the zeta ver ka with the zeta 2.0? so that i can just easily make it hold the hyper megalauncher?
My last build was the MG full armor thunderbolt ver ka. which took me about 2 months because I did everything including all the waterslides and finished with topcoat. It wasn't too hard but it was definitely a marathon build that seemed like it would take forever to finish. I think I'll stay away from complex builds for a while
I share your pain about the Thunderbolt as it took me forever. Unfortunately, with the Psycho Zaku, ZZ, and soon the Zeta, all in my backlog, I'm going to be in it for a while having recently just finished the MGEX Unicorn.
Even though I have the 2.0 I went ahead and ordered one after this review. Figured if I already have the zz ver ka might as well get this one to match
Apart from the thrusters and silver bits on the chest I'd say there isn't really anything that would make me pick this over the 2.0 .
Plus the 2.0 comes with the mega launcher and action base
2.0 also have water slide decal too, sold separately tho
The mechanical side of thing will be really fun to build, but once it's done, it doesn't look good on the shelf due to it being so plain and weirdly proportioned. Might buy it just for the build and sell it once it's done
Only reason is to have one displayed in MS mode and the other in Waverider mode lol
Pbandai Hyper megalauncher will be sold sepertely as a kit for the zeta ver ka sooner or later
I’ve shied away from MG due to space restrictions in my home, but this one is really tempting. I love the clean and very line art accurate look of this.
Will probably have the VK displayed in MS mode and the 2.0 displayed in Waverider
did you try the 2,0 hands on ver ka, if the hands fit you can do mega launcher with out the mods
who knows. maybe we'll get a ver ka hyaku shiki and get the HML with that.
The Ver. Ka. is really impressive and there's a lot to appreciate, but i think i prefer the 2.0 based on the proportions and the color difference. That said i would love it if they made a new Zeta Plus C1 out of the Ver. Ka.
I hope they will also release a verka on seed line like the destiny gundam that kit is so old
So was this a good kit for the 20th anniversary? Also will we get another wing ver Ka (deathschythe or heavyarms) for wings 30th anniversary (next year) announced for this year?
i doubt it, if you know all the wing EW MGs are essentially Ver.Ka's. redesigned by katoki himself. The only reason i feel the Wing EW Custom was made into a VerKa was bc the OG kit was old and outdated and wasnt included in the EW MG redesigns. Now if i had to choose a kit they could release for its 30th anniversary, it'll have to be a Wing Zero EW Custom Snow White Prelude or the REAL Snow White Unit as only Katoki himself knows how the Snow White unit actually looks like
@@Monvo707 actually Katoki designed all the EW kits, just they weren’t ver kas in the performance sense. Katoki wanted to make them more realistic. He didn’t touch the Epyon other than minor color changes on the legs. The most requested Wing Ver kas left are: Deathscythe Hell, Heavyarms Custom, Epyon and Talghese. If I was a betting man, Deathscythe hell would get it. The MG of it has aged quite badly and it’s the second most popular Wing kit outside of the Wing variations.
@@WorldsGreatestRingAnnouncer i literally just said that bro, the EW MGs are redesigns of the TV Versions by Katoki and even include his trademark decal styling. they're watered down Ver.Kas.... Deathscythe Hell is just the EW Deathscythe but with bat wings, the OG wing zero EW custom was released in 2004....meanwhile DSH was 2011, id put all my cards on the snow white
17:00 What if we just switch the whole hands? or are the hands connection are not compatible?
How do you guys manage to move around the torso of the Zeta without slipping out the pipe in the chest? Mine keeps popping out.
Has anyone tried to put the ver Ka onto the 2.0 catapult base? From the video it looks like the smaller ver Ka feet can fit on but asking here to make sure. Appreciate any help!
The one thing i was curious about was if it's compatible with the 2.0's base but judging from the last shots in the review i think the answer is no.
The Gunpla itself is sturdy, amazing to play with and overall amazing to handle.
The details however IS more simplistic compared to other VerKas. But that's the glory of this kit. You could always add some of the Katoki style decals for that extra flare, but its better without it.
I tink this version is like an empty canvas for custom builder
Just got a notice from USAGS that the Ver Ka will be coming in in the next 14 days and then they'll start processing the preorders 😎
And it's here :P
There is definitely more detail on the Verka version of the Zeta WOW.
Other than that i still love the 2.0 version there's nothing wrong with that version😊
A great review Zaku keep up the great work👍
And greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱
Now bandai needs to make the Rx-178 mk 2 ver ka in both versions
the is defintely the best version to mod and paint with as it give you the best foundation to start with. looking forward to build mine after finishing on rx78 ver ka!
My very first MG is Zeta 2.0. cause zeta is one of my fav gundam but why some of the proportion on the ver ka like the neck and shoulders feels to short?
Roll in the inevitable P-Bandai Zeta Variants
Give us A-Z Gundam and Zeta Plus C1 ver Ka.
Hope bandai releases a new Rx782 or maybe a MKII ver Ka to go with the Z and complete the ZZ team
Hopefully this means mk2 ver ka
What is the best Gundam Ver Ka in your opinion?
Objectively BEST probably MGEX Unicorn Ver.Ka. But the price is hard to swallow. Alternatively either the Wing Zero EW, Sazabi, Hi-Nu/ Nu are good options! 👍
Thank you for this video. it made me love my 2.0 even more ☺️
Transform!!
And roll out!!!
The blue on the Ver Ka is beautiful. If i was more into MG i would be on the Z Ver Ka hype train.
How solid is this kit compared to the old zeta?
Katoki detailed-up this more than the Hi - Nu Gundam and I dig the clean look of it.
Look at those inner frame parts popping-up; its cool looking.
Are you gonna paint it like a F22 raptor or any fighter jet color scheme?
Insane color separation. I recently got into gunpla but held off on getting the HG Zeta because of the horrible color separation. So I might actually get the ver ka.
I probably won't buy this since I already have the 2.0, but I would definitely get a Zeta Plus C1 and A1 ver ka. Too bad they'd probably be P Bandai if they ever decide to make them.
The only thing I don't like about this kit is that there is no forward popout for the shoulder, it only hinges outwards like a door. Makes it annoying to do a lot of poses, like swinging the shield out front or properly gripping the rifle with two hands. This is the only oversight I can think of, honestly. A little 15 degree forward rotation would have made a huge difference in poseability. The 2.0 could do this, I believe. It's just weird because they actually have an upwards swinging hinge to make the arm go upwards, which I have honestly never found a use for with any kit outside of a "final shot" pose with the RX-78. As far as not having an ABS inner frame - especially after having built some other 2.0s, notably the Zaku II and the RX-78, this is actually points in favor of the 2.0 in my mind. I am worried about a polystyrene inner frame being a break/fall risk, especially with no polycaps.
I'm disappointed that all the recent Zeta models doesn't come with the Hyper Mega Launcher
still waiting for a variable kit as flawless as bandai's vf-31 series
To me it seems he mixed Classic Zeta with the Zeta Wave Shooter design. I know Katoki said he wanted it to be more anime accurate but in the anime Zeta was a bit more stout.
For anyone who has built both this and the Zeta 2.0, if you could only have one, which one would you choose? Planning to get a Zeta but I only want one, hence the question. Thanks in advance!
Objectively the Ver.Ka is the better kit in almost every way. But I do like the design and proportions of the 2.0 quite a bit.
@@ZakuAurelius Copy that. Thank you very much!
Great kit but tbh the one who should've gotten a ver ka was the GP01
Agreed
I need that for starscream conversion
Maybe TARN from IDW
I've seen that, it's pretty dope. I think I'd do Jetfire myself.
Shessssh. Bandai Skippen on ABS because of restrictions and costing :(
Now if someone here can advise which of the two is closer to the 88 version.
Ver ka is closer.
Hyper mega cannon...: Could you just use the 2.0 hands on the VerKa?
I wish bandai release gp 01,02,03 or G Self ver ka instead of this zeta since we have mg 2.0 zeta already.
Are ver ka supposed to have a lot of detail like real grade kits?? I looked up the other ver ka kits and they dont have a crazy amount of detail (lots of waterslides tho) other than the nu and sazabi.
People these days like brain melting amounts of surface detail lmaooo
The saying 'Less is more' does not compute 😂
@@user-sp9po5qi9q I actually hate too much surface detail. Its over complicated and even messes with its realism. If you look at military Jets they only have panel lines and decals
Nope, I'm building the V2AB rn and the vast majority of the detail is from the decals. People just think Ver Kas are about high detail since the Nu was essentially a 1/100 RG and that's the most popular Ver Ka
Exactly. You look at katoki's previous drawings of zeta and he always had clean surfaces. All the way back from mg 1.0
@@jaskaranbajwa8443 I remember when I build the V2 back then. I was blown away with the inner frame details and intricacies that when I put the armor on I was so disappointed because there's almost no surface detail whatsoever on them lol. Makes me want to just display it armorless.
It's beautiful.
no time codes :(
I do actually prefer the proportions on this a lot more than the 2.0 because I feel like the legs sit way to low on the 2.0. But man that wingspan of the 2.0 is a lot nicer in the waverider. I am however disappointed that it still has troubles to stand. I would have preferred a more high heeled look if it meant that it could stand more easily.
i like how anime accurate it looks with some added details. Would you say the parts that went into the engineering and the decals make up for the lack of the launcher and base with how much more it costs over the 2.0?
Iooks good but I don't think it's worth it when you compare to the 2.0
So, as I see on this review:
> For appearance, 2.0 wins it. Ver Ka proportions is quite weird, especially on head, wings and waverider mode. And I never like those silver thingy poking through the chest part mostly found in Ver Ka kits and some other kits redesigned by Katoki, except on S/Ex-S 1.5 and Deep Striker. But I like it poking through another armor parts as additional detail.
> For build, I will acknowledge Ver Ka being the winner. Being modern MG kit and designed almost 20 years after 2.0 make it more stable, especially on the leg parts. Another positive thing is, the color separation is absolutely better than 2.0.
> For articulation, another win for Ver Ka. Quite improved than 2.0.
> For gimmick and accessory, the 2.0 came out as absolute winner. The 2.0 waverider proportion is much better than Ver Ka. And I prefer 2.0 leg and foot transformation. Furthermore, it came with Catapult Base and Mega Launcher.
Another point is, for the pricetag, 5k yen MG Zeta kit with more accessories or 7k yen MG Zeta kit with just basic accessories (although I appreciate Bandai including closed fist hands, something very rare found in gunpla kits, even in MG that came with interchangable hand parts), is a big no no IMO.
The conclusion is, if I'm on situation where I don't own a single MG Zeta and want to choose one as my first MG Zeta, 2.0 is the overall better choice, even being a very old kit (but still comparable to modern MG, tho). But Ver Ka is not a bad kit absolutely, it's a good choice if you already own the 2.0.
Definitely not a "kit killer", as jabman wont to say.
I like the Ver Ka aesthetics slightly more but not enough to pick it over the mega launcher and base that the 2.0 comes with while also being a bit cheaper.
I don’t own a Mg Zeta so I’m excited to get this Ver Ka.!
Man it's so clean out of the box, I'm really excited to build mine
I built the 2.0 with a friend a while back, so hearing that the Ver Ka has a new frame peaks my interest since I buy kits mainly based on how the inner frame is like
Is the ver ka frame a more interesting kit mechanically than the 2.0?
The only thing I don't like aesthetic wise is the derpy looking chest. Originally I wasn't interested in this kit at all but after watching the live build and review I think I'll get it. I've had the 2.0 for years but still haven't built it yet.
Not a fan of transforming model kits, they get very loose over time. Hopefully this has fixed that. The design differences are nice, though. Like this look for the Zeta.
I got a the ZZ a while ago and that thing is still a brick
@@BrandonTjon wait...brick as in still a solid kit without loose joints and can hold poses? ...or brick as in its now in a permanent pose because it's jello?
@@jojj334Q brick as in sturdy. It's probably one of the sturdiest kits I own. It has one ankle joint that is too tight out of box so you have to sand it. But that aside it's so sturdy
@@BrandonTjon Oh that's awesome! Glad the ZZ is still going, man. If that translates to this Zeta as well, then it's gonna be a kit that lasts, too.
@@jojj334Q I hope so too. The ZZ really left a impression. With its torso being able to split in half, a giant beam rifle and 1/60 beam sabers, you would think it is a hand grenade but it's somehow not. I have a video of it holding the rifle and the beam saber and shaking the hell out of it and it never loses the pose
I definitely prefer the aesthetics on the 2.0 as well, the shape of the head along with the panel lines are what keep me leaning more towards it than the new ver. ka. It's a shame because the colors and engineering of the ver. ka are so nice.
