My dad advised me to join the Air Force back in the day, but I had to rebel and join the Army. Jeezus I would’ve retired in the Air Force. So awesome!!
Currently a 15P in the army and honestly I gotta say, after this contract is over I think switching to Air Force and getting in this job is calling my name!
Goodluck 🙌🏽 shouldnt be hard to snag this career field is usually low manned i picked up a 40k reenlistment bonus a few years back when we were really low manned
Both you will get half up front and the rest evenly divided through the years you enlisted for i got 20k up front tax free since i was deployed at the time and then 4k every year for the remaining 5 years
It really depends on what base you are stationed at. Every spot i been to we only work 8 hour shifts but if you get stationed at a base that flies 24/7 than most likely your shifts will be 12 hours but you will work like 3 days on 2 days off type of schedule. Also deployments are 12 hour shifts at least all the ones ive been on.
Hi Bruce, is there an official USAF glossary guide to all the terms used in Airfield management? I’m trying to find the definition for “flight line”, “Ramp”, etc. a diagram showing different parts of the airfield would be great. Thanks!
urbancollaborative.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/UFC-3-260-01-Airfield-Planning.pdf This pdf is one of the regulations we use heavily in our career field has all the definitions, dimensions, criteria for the airfield should have everything you need just know its kinda long
What's the training like? Just tech school then straight to your base? I was 6 years AD security forces and then guard 2 years. I'm ready for a career field change lol
Yup just 30 days of tech school in Mississippi where they will briefly touch on things then u will get to your base and be in a little more in depth local training for about a year. I think ud like it better than security forces lol a lot more relaxed
Tech school is pretty quick about a month and you’re done. Work life balance depends on the base if you can get one where the airfield is not 24/7 its easier for a family. Work you have a lot of downtime so doing school on shift is what a lot of people do. Once you get higher in rank (E-6) and get put on admin hours its a lot easier for family life but work life gets dull i enjoyed my time on the counter more than being in the back office
Its pretty difficult to get stationed there unless the timing lined up they also try to avoid it being a first duty station for us because the type of airfield makes it harder to train any new person
Not a lot but we do get deployed probably every 3 years at least but just depends where u are stationed. Ive met people who been in for 8 years and it was their first deployment.
i also have a question about the job tho does this position like marshal in the planes and stuff too? or is that a different afsc? just out of pure curiosity because i havent found much info on this job anywhere
Goodluck! Might feel like a lot to learn in a short time but when you get to your first base they will go over everything again but tailored to the base you are assigned to. Most of us braindumped some of the things we learned at tech school so dont feel bad if you forget things when you go home after tech school before going to your first base
No thats not us thats a different agency we pretty much notify them and let them know when the planes are arriving so they are out there when they land.
@@Bruce.lee94 thank you that helps ease some of my nerves alot, i originally wanted a cyber job this was my 8th job on my sheet so i never really looked much into it so just trying to learn all I can!
Social life kinda depends on the person if u dont mind going out to try new things and stepping out of your comfort zone every now and then its great! Bases usually have activities pretty often too. I met some of the best people i still talk to from my last two bases. As far as the dating life ive had real good luck with it lol you are just exposed to a lot of new people theres options not only on base but also the local community depending on the base you are stationed at
Not necessarily the option but when deployment taskings come up you are always welcome to volunteer for it and sometimes people depending on their situation will give theirs up to someone that wants it
@@Bruce.lee94 Thanks for the fast reply! I literally took the asvab today and got this job as an option. Another quick question, for you did you have to wait awhile for an opening for the job or you got the chance to book it right away?
@ivanlaureano7548 no problem! And i think i had to wait about 3 months, but im glad it gave me time to spend more time with friends and family and knocking out a few things in my bucket list before starting my journey
Well a lot of us do classes online, dont know many people who’ve actually gone to physical classes after work but finishing college is 100% possibly while active duty. My last two supervisors both had their doctor’s degree done during active duty.
Pretty easy transfer you can work at almost any airport a lot of bases also hire civilians. (This base half the shop was civilians) Aviation Operations Manager, Airfield management specialist, airfield manager, etc. just depends what level of training you complete. Most of us get a good amount of our credits for an aviation management degree just from training.
Hello, so you can be stationed in the states or overseas and wherever you get stationed at there will be potential for them to deploy you for 6 months overseas and then you will go back to your regular base after those 6 months.
@@Bruce.lee94 Thanks for the answer! I’m currently on flight training (civil), but I’m thinking on enlist with USAF but I’m interested on jobs related to aviation… like your job and also ATC. One last question, are you able to decided which base you want?
ATC is also a very good choice! As far as choosing your base you do get a “dream sheet” you can pick 7 bases you would like to go to and if the Air For has openings at those bases for your rank theres a chance to get stationed there. Its not always guaranteed but you can always re apply afterwards
I think so well Ive come across a few its not nearly as bad as it used to be. Remember times are changing that old conservative generation is starting to get out and the newer more accepting are taking over.
Yes they are usually called airfield operations manager, flight service managers, airport facility manager, airfield management, base operations, Aeronautical information specialist, or Airfield management specialist. If you have all your certifications you can also be the actual airfield manager.
My dad advised me to join the Air Force back in the day, but I had to rebel and join the Army. Jeezus I would’ve retired in the Air Force. So awesome!!
I’m actually in the process of enlisting rn, and So far Aviation Resource Management and Airfield Management are my top two job picks
Good luck! Hope you get whichever you are leaning towards more but they are both good options!

Thank you! 30 day tech school’s is so underrated its nice getting straight to the operational Air Force sooner than later
airfield management at travis afb is the literal worst. 6 years of 12 hour shifts for a 24/7 flightline with heavys. fuck that shit.
Damn that is pretty bad ill be sure to not ever put Travis on my dream sheet 💀
Great Vid, Bro! Keep it up...!
Appreciate it man 🙌🏽
That's awesome man. I do contracting work for the Weather station there.
It was such a good experience being there. Hope you are enjoying your time!
