@drumline17 on my flight we had two people on the older side of things. Both were older than our MTIs, which was weird, but surprisingly common. Every flight had at least one guy who joined when he was older. Some things to keep in mind: you don't get your first paycheck until a few weeks of you being there, so make sure that your family has enough money to last them (if you have those kinds of responsibilities). Other than that I say go for it if you're interested in it. The older guys we did have faired a lot better than the guys who came straight outta highschool. You'll be surprised how quickly you can catch up to the guys who did make rank young. Other than that, don't worry about social awkwardness in basic due to age. Basic is short and having that mature person there can really help a bmt flight soar, and after that you'll have plenty opportunity to hang out with that crowd of older military folk who joined a bit later in life. Just stay wise in tech school. Don't get caught giving alcohol to underage people or anything like that, don't get too wrapped up in crazy young people drama (you will be spending a lot of time with 19 yr olds).
