- A video tutorial on how to replace the cabin filter on a 2012 - 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan
Cabin AC air filters help enhance the air quality inside your vehicle, creating a healthier, more comfortable environment for you and your passengers. A properly functioning cabin air filter can stop up to 90% of dust, pollen, and spore particles from entering the Dodge Grand Caravan passenger compartment location.
The A/C air filter in the Dodge Grand Caravan is located in the fresh air inlet behind the glove compartment. Perform the following procedure to replace the filter:
1. Open the glove compartment and remove all contents.
2. Push in on the sides of the glove compartment, remove tether and lower the door.
3. Pivot the glove compartment downward.
4. Disengage the two retaining tabs that secure the filter cover to the HVAC housing, and remove the cover.
5. Remove the A/C cabin air filter by pulling it straight out of the housing.
6. Install the A/C cabin air filter with the arrow on the filter pointing toward the floor. When installing the filter cover, make sure the retaining tabs fully engage the cover.
7. Rotate the glove compartment door back into position and reinstall tether
WHEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE THE CABIN AIR FILTER ON YOUR DODGE CARAVAN?
It is recommended that you replace your Grand Caravan cabin AC air filter every 10,000 - 15,000 miles or once a year.
However, you may want to replace or change the cabin filter more often if:
-You or a frequent passenger suffers from allergies
-You or a frequent passenger has other respiratory problems
-You drive your Grand Caravan on dirt roads or in excessively dusty conditions
-You drive your Grand Caravan in heavily polluted areas

Thank you. My damper cord button was stuck in the hole and before forcing it out with a screw driver, I pulled in the sides of the glove box and the glove box dropped down just enough to be able to get the filter cover/door off and replace the filter, cover, and return the glove box to the upright position, Left the damper cord in place. Not as much working space as with the glove box farther out of the way, but doable.

I have a 2016, and the Configuration of the glove box was a little different, but your video here certainly helped me figure out how to do it.
Sad thing is I had spent an hour going through the manual looking for this information. It tells me absolutely nothing about it in the manual.

You're Welcome! You should be able to find a replacement access door online for pretty cheap. Even if the filter is installed upside down its not that big of a deal - the filter will just wear out slightly quicker.

I have a 2018 dodge grand caravan gt flex fuel e85 and this is on my list to replace …with the K&N cabin filter ….thanks for the how to video ….now I know where mine is located ….my additional tip is using a shop vac to blow out or vacuum out the area before installing new filter ….did this method on different vehicles…occasionally using an air compressor….as for the K&N upgrade it’s washable and reusable….my plans to add the air intake filter also ….because both out last paper filters ….my bigger question is how to flush out my air conditioning lines …they show videos of hooking up the adapters and a vacuum pump as well as new r134a refrigerant…but what about showing a video on how the vacuum pulls out old r134a air conditioner fluid and extraction ….where does the old fluid go ….before adding new r134a refrigerant….does it go into a container or something just curious ….and if the line is clogged how to flush out an air conditioning line ….safely
Great, my niece was about to be taking. a guy was going to charge her about $300.oo to change her cabin filter when she told me about I went and show her this video she went to an auto parts bought the filter and did it herself for just about $20.00 dollars😂

What does that cord do? Doesn’t seem to have any effect on the compartment itself.
its called a dampening cord - it just lets the glovebox open slower than just falling open
Hope this works on my 2016 dodge caravan. There's 2 glove boxes, thought I had to remove the upper one (per dealership) but can't get it out even after removing 2 screws. It's at this point I usually scratch and dent! Haha!
Hey I got er done! It worked just like you said. It had had no door on filter chamber, they ordered one and when I opened the pkg one of the tabs on the side was broken. Installed it anyway. They were going to charge me 20 bucks to install this panel door. Wonder if they would have told me it was busted or just installed it?

Dashboards are the same on 2011 thru 2020 models just different trim levels on town & country and grand caravan. Chrysler TC has the clock under the radio.
Before I replace the filter, can I vacuum down inside the slot? I had this replaced and the air flow is still the same ...reduced. Since I've had a mouse problem I wonder if there's junk further down there blocking the air flow.
Yes - vacuuming it out is no problem
i just did this today. it was so dark you couldn't see light through it and there were dead leaves in the compartment with the filter. my guess is it was the original cabin air filter.

I replaced mine with a fram filter now I have a light buzz noise it was really dusty alot of debris like a birds nest almost I stuck my hand inside with the car off no debris I even blew tge heat on hi no filter door open no debris do you think its the filter should I get a dealership filter instead
Does it make the sound if you remove the filter completely and then close it up and turn the car on? That should help you determine if the noice is coming from the filter itself
What brand filter would you recommend? Want the best!
I really don't have a specific brand to recommend but the best filters will be the charcoal or carbon activated ones - they do a better job of getting rid of odors as opposed to the regular filters.
will this help if your AC is running just cool. Not warm or hot, but doesn't really cool down the car
replacing the cabin filter can help improve overall airflow out of the vents but shouldn't effect temperature of the air

There are many different makes/brands - you can find the correct filter online by searching the year, make and model of your vehicle. Auto parts stores will look it up but the year, make and model if your vehicle as well

part number would have been nice...
there is no standard part number - each brand of filter uses their own. The filters are looked up but the year, make and model of the vehicle.
My air smells bad filter been in since 2012 something dead I think 🤔
