Roger Waters could absolutely have voiced a Disney Villain. I love how he really threw himself into each of the individual characters.

I can agree with that 100%.
I just wish he wasn't such a self-righteous shithead. The man's _definitely_ a musical genius, both in composition and performance... but he's also such an asshole IRL xD
I guess it's just another one of those "separate the artist and their art" moments. But hey, at least Gilmour never got weird on us.

@@josephschultz3301 couldn't agree with you more. It's unfortunate that someone so clearly musically gifted couldn't see that part of the magic was all four members of the Floyd working together. By the time The Wall came around, he had decided he WAS Pink Floyd. Well, he for his serving of humble pie when the remaining 3 went on tour as Pink Floyd and were selling out arenas in the same city he was only selling a few thousand tickets in. I always hate when one of my favorite bands can't get along. Waters really needs to pull his head out of his ass and realize that while he is a musical genius and the lyrical backbone of the group, the reason they sold so well was because of the chemistry between the members and the talent each one brought to the table.

@@morganr4426 It really is a shame, isn't it? So much talent and creativity... and he wastes so much of it these days parading around as though he's the sole aspect of a great band that was great _because_ of everybody's input. I doubt he'll ever get over his own ego, but I can certainly hope he does, y'know?
I love Pink Floyd. They're easily one of my favorite bands of all time. It just sucks seeing this kind of infighting shit happen.

The wall is one of those albums that only really makes sense when listened to in its entirety. Most of if is leitmotifs and callbacks and the album itself is not really structured when looking at the individual elements. The "heavy" riff that opens part B od the song, for example, is the "We don't need no education" bit from Another Brick In The Wall (I assume you know that one, everyone does, that and Comfortably Numb) with slightly altered tempos, and it's one those things that should be viewed as a complete body of work, rather than dissecting the individual elements.
It's a 90 minute story, really, about an artist's descent into isolation and insanity, and where every piece of society around him, be it the school system, war, or the exploitative music industry all pile up to their misanthropy and eventual descent into nihilism and fascism, until he breaks down and is put on Trial within his mind. The weight of all you saw is only made clear within the context of what came before, and you walked in at the end of the movie, so to speak. Which also happens to be my favourite album of all time

Definetly not the best "song" of the album (or "rock opera" or rather "story in rock format" told by the album/stage show/movie) but the song immediately came to mind when I was considering something from The Wall for the multimedia theme. It tells a story by itself - although there's definitely much more to it when put in context of the full story.
Glad you enjoyed it and did that with focus on the full multimedia experience.

This song I often recommend to reaction channels when they listen to anything off The Wall, because I feel it expertly explains why a whole album listen is a must-The album is a narrative and this song is the climax, and I think it’s very easy to recognize that while listening to the song.
I also usually recommend checking out the film, even though I believe Roger Waters doesn’t care for it I believe it’s fantastic and definitely helps, (maybe not as much as The Who’s Tommy helps an audience understand that album but definitely very helpful.)
Reminiscent of animation like Ralph Bakshi’s work?
This song is the only one of its style on the album and it’s the only segment that has such a heavy focus on animation as a part of the narrative, though there is a mix of animation and live action, the majority of the film is live action.

It's not just a predetermined show trial, it's much darker, this is Pink puting himself on trial inside his own head.

The Trial is probably Floyd's most intense song. It's literally the moment on the album when all of the "bricks" fall down. It's crazy and awesome and _incredibly upsetting._
    I fucking love this song.

The Wall works perfectly fine as a concept album on its own (not my favorite PF, but still excellent), but I'd argue that the film, which the album accompanies, is arguably better than the album in isolation. The animation sequences are so iconic and mind-bending, but they have the nightmare logic of David Lynch, and the rest of the film really helps bring out the thematic complexity of the album. To quote Ebert: "This isn't the most fun to listen to and some viewers don't find it to much fun to watch, but the 1982 film is without question the best of all serious fiction films devoted to rock. Seeing it now in more timid times, it looks more daring than in did in 1982, when I saw it at Cannes... It combines wickedly powerful animation with a surrealistic trip through the memory and hallucinations of an overdosing rock star. It touches on sex, nuclear disarmament, the agony of warfare, childhood feelings of abandonment, the hero's deep unease about women, and the life style of a rock star at the end of his rope." I almost hate that you had to have your first experience with a very out-of-context scene, but the whole thing is very much worth seeing. Not a perfect film by any means, but an incredibly interesting one.

I saw the performance of The Wall at Earls Court in London in 1981. This was in support of the original album not the rock opera.
I'm interested in what will turn up this week. Personally, I would have suggested Nightwish and the official music video to "Noise" from their most recent album, but I'm currently obsessed with Earthside and the amazing animated film that goes with "All We Knew and Ever Loved".
ETA it looks as though RUclips comments to the blocked video for Laura Marling are disappearing. It's not surprising.

You’re not alone mate, I was 14 and sang this constantly. Luckily I didn’t have to buy the album at the time as my maths/science teacher used to play all sorts of quality music while we studied. Little did we know we were getting a musical education too. I bought a stack of blank cassettes before I left school and he was kind enough to record a tonne of music for me.
The way you made them suffer your exquisite wife and mother, fills me with the urge to DEFICATE! The enunciation is such a joy to sing along with.

There is a DVD version that used to play on axis... Rodger Waters the wall from Berlin in like 2012. It's the live concert mixed with some video of him going to sites from his dad and Grandpa died in world war 1 and world war II. They actually build the wall... live on stage... throughout the show and then bring it down on the last song! It's freaking epic

What is the meaning behind The Wall by Pink Floyd?
Image result for pink floyd the wall songs explained
According to the band, the "wall" is the self-isolating barrier we build over the course of our lives, and the "bricks in the wall" are the people and events that turn us inward and away from others.” Pink Floyd created a movie called “The Wall” released in 1982 which features the character, Pink who is a troubled rock .

Challenging the listener to recognise the cycles of abuse and mental health problems that plagued Pink.

I do hope you take on the full movie/album - certainly worth your while with a tremendous variety of musical styles and videos. As a teaser you could check out the animation and much different music style of Goodbye Blue Sky (with the opening few seconds or so without music). Then for another a change up go with the disturbing but powerful series of songs/scenes below In The Flesh / Run Like Hell / Waiting For The Worms
    ruclips.net/video/196h-nUrNB4/видео.html
Finish off your quick tour of The Wall by watching Comfortably Numb.
Then just watch the movie then afterwards listen to the album eyes closed with headphones.
Another audio visual great piece I would be interested in seeing you critique the Live in Pompei version of Echos - this was several years before The Wall was made. It is a long song but worth the effort of listening. As a bonus check out One of These Days.
    ruclips.net/video/y-E7_VHLvkE/видео.html
Other Pink Floyd that would be of great interest (without video) would be Shine On Crazy Diamond which there are 2 parts that bookend the album Wish You Were Here.

I assume you're referring to the fact that I over-analyzed the music rather than just close my eyes and listen to it. I listen to music very different for the channel than I would do for casual listening. The purpose of these critical listens is to analyze it and see what the music is doing. If I were to listen to this album on my own time I'd put the headphones on, lie on the couch, and fall into it.
