This is probably the greatest reaction video I’ve ever seen. I’m more with her emotional reactions to David’s guitar work. I cry almost every time I hear him, lyrivs aren’t necessary. But Roger’s lyrics were profound. And he went deep on that. A perfect combination.

Having been a PF fan for over 40 years, here's my take on the Waters/other guys contribution. Lyrically, there's nothing to say - Waters is one of the greatest lyricists of his generation, the rest of PF could not come close. Musically however - Waters' writing is extremely dramatic. He comes up with great hooks and melodies. But listen to his solo albums, they are full over-the-top drama, sudden loud-quiet-loud-quiet transitions and an almost assault-style production - great in small doses, but he goes too far.
That's where Gilmour and Wright (and to a lesser extent Mason, I suppose) really helped Pink Floyd. Their writing is much smoother and softer, more atmospheric. Even on the Floyd's Waters-only penned songs, I can imagine Gilmour and Wright saying "let's smooth this out". Imagine Waters' music is like caviar, Foie Gras, or white truffles - exquisite, but you don't want to have an entire meal of the stuff - it's too rich. The rest of Pink Floyd supplied the meat, potatoes and veggies that balanced it out and made it all more listenable.
With the music balanced, and Waters' lyrics on top of that they were unstoppable. Separated, Waters' solo work is very interesting, but hard to listen to over and over. Post-Waters Pink Floyd is the opposite - beautiful, grande and easy to listen to, but with mostly uninteresting lyrics and lacking the occasional dramatic punch that Waters would give.

@@acfiv1421 I might have written that a few days ago, actually Ive written almost exactly that. Dave says up front that 'was my job'. The trouble when roger left was dave states he needs time to recharge, and rogers lyrics were still coming fast and loose. Radio KAOS is a little easier to listen than Amused to Death, but I've compared ATD with Guernica. I can look at it and recognize its brilliance but really can't look at it for too long. Roger really seems to WANT to really hit you between the eyes, but that really doesn't help. Its a real shame that when doing Division Bell apparantly dave tried to mend fences and 'was told to go fuk myself' according to the song. Ironically momentary lapse of reason sounds TOO much like trying to replace roger so from BOTH camps you kind of got really depressing stuff, which of course is what set them both apart from most of the 80s pap.
On this track you have to remember that this was music that Dave wanted on wish you were here, but roger won that argument. And its the music that really 'softens' this album, which also really needs it.

There's a line in the song that says "And as the fear grows, the bad blood slows and turns to stone." That's what he's referencing at the end. Eventually he was dragged down by the stone. By all that bad blood he created. The stone reference is mentioned throughout the album in different places, but I think it's here where he defines what it is. Also, he basically realizes in the end that he's been being used all along. A dog trained, chained and discarded. (presumably by pigs.)

It was the music that brought Sista to tears…soft acoustic in parts, electric and heart wrenching in others…an emotional roller coaster. I'm Russian and I was 15 when the album was released. My friend's mother went from Germany and brought Animals to my friend as present. The country was closed and 95% of the population was not allowed to travel abroad. All western rock music was not allowed. But we had recorder tapes and some LP's came from abroad. We listened Animals the whole week after classes and couldn't believe our ears. It was absolutely incredible experience. Many years later I was on Pink Floyd concert in Moscow in 1989 and it was a second shock to see them on stage.

It got mixed reviews when it first came out because many reviewers considered it angry and pessimistic. In the years since it’s release it has been given new looks and listens by “those in the know” and is now widely considered one of their best albums and one of the best rock / psychedelic albums of the 70’s.

She became a fan of the band afterwards! Pink Floyd is so magical!

It's not may favourite band (for many minor reasons) but when it comes to alltime favourite albums, PF Animals is very close to top 10, competing with my very favourites. Picking one song from the album is difficult as it is a must do full album listening. My personal reaction to parts of Dogs is still very close to yours, Sistah - after so many years. So grab the album and do the other 4 tracks reaction quickly and don’t miss too much time left to listen to this masterpiece. 😊

David Gilmour's guitar playing can get very emotional to be sure.

Went to Battersea power station two weeks ago its now a huge shopping mall.
I am old enough to remember seeing the giant inflated pig between the chimneys .
Till it broke free and messed up the airline flight paths.
Animal's is still imho an under rated album from Floyd

Animals. I see the creatures as: Pigs - the politicians and bosses, Dogs - their enforcers and muscle men, Sheep - the people
:) the whole album is to my ear the technically best PF record. Needs a complete playthrough; it's all one piece.
Music: the Universal language that connects us all....

Dogs: people who only look out for themselves, who lie and deceive and will end up alone because of all the selfish things they did
Pigs: people who point fingers, feel morally above anyone else nad tell others how to live their lives, but its all just a facade, a deception because after all they are pretty similar to the Dogs
      Sheep: everyone else
      thats how i understood it

David is usually such a player who takes your emotions on an uplifting journey.... But on this album he plays some on the most dirty and nasty lead breaks I have ever heard him play. The whole album is just one complete gem, as you would expect with Floyd..... And of ALL of their albums, if I had to pick only one to play for the rest of my lfe... this would be the one... Keep on Rocking.

Gilmour's guitar here IS a dog, who, without words expresses it's feelings with barks and howls, whimpers and yelps. This has to be intentional. How many guitar solos in Dogs? Four? Each one sounds to me like a state of emotion: elation/aggression, fear, pleading, despair. They're all so perfectly converted into music. Incredible.

The artwork on the cover is the Battersea Power Station. There is an extra building added to the left side of the Power Station, so if you look at the entire image, the buildings resemble a dead sheep, on its back, with all 4 legs pointing up to the sky. The pig balloon's name is Algie.

I love this album and I love this song. IMO it's about a society that forces one to adopt sociopathic principles to get ahead in life. Living with these principles separates one from their humanity and takes a spiritual and physical toll (the metaphorical "stone"). Floyd songs can usually be interpreted on many different levels. There is the literal meaning of the song, but usually its also about society and has personal meaning.

It took a brain to shoot something like this. I am simply speechless, so much slow preparation for the part of the song before (And when you loose control ....) the part that keeps repeating and that you can't wait to hear again. I often play it on the bass guitar and I feel like I'm in seventh heaven. Simply fantastic. I've been hearing Floyd since I started high school there back in 1972.

I didn't have liner notes for my little cassette tape back in 1977....so I had NO clue what any of these songs were about. I just dug the sound. Listening on my $100 Radio Shack brand stereo & my cheap headphones....& I loved it. I'm pretty sure that 'Sheep' was my favorite track at that time. Possibly my favorite Pink Floyd album. The one I still find myself listening to more often than others. But it varies.

I don’t really comment on youtube, or anywhere else really, but here I go. I’ve discovered you guys 3 years ago going through a rough patch, just before I enlisted in the army, I’m from eastern europe, which specific country is not important.Ever since then you guys were two platonic friends of mine, I’m so grateful that I could laugh with you, cry with you, even scream with you guys, simply experience the mirage-like wonder of human connection through music, my father died of cancer last week, but not as another sad and lonely old man, quite the opposite. Pink Floyd, and especially this album was our common favourite. The last few days were pretty hectic, but this night happens to be unusually calm, which, although gives us respite, always freaks me out a bit😅. I think what I want to tell you is you guys are a little piece of home and bliss for me, sitting in my “forward observation post”, basically a glorified foxhole😅 smoking some red Luckies and drinking Capri sun, provided by my all-American squad-mate from Colorado :D, much love and all the hugs to you guys from a forest somewhere near Mordor❤

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, but so happy and comforted to know that he passed peacefully.
Your father will live on in your heart, thoughts and through the vibrations from the music you both loved and enjoyed together.
      Thank you for sharing.
Sending you so much love good vibes (((hugs))) ♥
