I LOVE that Adam pointed out your mind makes the ball too much of a target because this is exactly what I've been working on. What I did to work on this is marked my golf balls with a bunch of X's big and small. At address, I focus on an X in the bottom right quadrant of the ball. I focus on hitting that X rather than the entire golf ball and it's been working like a charm. Thanks guys!

Eric sorry if this is too much info but I just want people to know how good you are coming from someone who is not affiliated with you in any way. I'll keep it brief as possible. I'm only 5ft 6in-officially a 14 handicap based on 3 cards from a year ago but I'm more like a 10 or 11 really. I have been working on this drill in my living room for the whole coronavirus lockdown. When I went back on the course I was hitting huge hooks that started straight and went off the planet! Instead of panicking, I stuck with it and kept trying to start them more right. I hit one huge hook 288 yards - 8 yards further than my longest ever drive. I've been able to straighten it out the last few days and today I carried roughly 295ish rolling out to 334 yards on the flat and the ball can't go right. Other drives were on average between 270-290. But the best thing is that I wasn't anywhere near as physically beat after the round- it felt effortless. You sir are so good at what you do and I can't thank you enough. Having followed you for a long time, I would like to ask if I am able to leave a testimonial on your site like this because I feel it's only fair. Obviously if that's not cool/possible that's totally fine and don't worry I will not leave any more ridiculous comments like this on your youtube page. Just in this instance I really wanted to thank you. Thank you.

    Great instruction from you guys.
Keeping the club head as far away from me as I can, and swinging it up and right is so simple, yet so effective.
I can’t believe after all these years that I never thought of it that way.
I feel dumber than a sack of hammers right now, but hugely encouraged by the results.
    Thank you so much gentlemen.

      Hey MJB...
      Think "low point"...
Imagine you have a hula hoop in front of you on a tilted angle...
Now imagine you turn that to the right.......notice the right side of the hula hoop will be closer to the feet that the left....
That shows the low point is more to the right.
Now flip that for the left...
      Hope that helps!

Thanks for reminder to stick with the drills. Ive tried to correct my slice in similar manner many times and would almost immediately have the exact mirror shot result…meaning high fade or crazy high slice to low hard draw to snap hook that seems to fire i to the ground 25 yrds left at about 120yrds out which then proceeds to spin further left manically…..i never could stay with it past half a bucket at the range do to worrying i was gonna just teacemoff one sort of,playable flaw for a short unplayable fault….Also, i Was able to find video 1 and 2 via links in description(s) but could not find 3 (no link and so many videos on scratch golf channel)

good point on clubface! I found I need to pay attention to where my clubface points at address. Makes a difference especially with short irons. I tended to pull shots and it was mainly my clubface pointing that direction.

Just spent an hour on the range doing this stick drill and the results were immediate and just as advertised more distance from a swing that seemed much easier. I didn’t expect much because I thought I did swing from the inside and shallow out pretty well. But I often stall out my turn after impact. On my first few swings with a ball I clipped the top of the stick as my club exited left. So I had to finish high . To finish high I had to drive off my front leg which got my hips cleared . All of this led to straighter higher longer ball flight with a gentle draw. I thought I had a problem with my turn and transition not my path. This drill taught me that they are linked and I my case fixing the one fixed the other . Low and far from the ball to high rightbexitb

Eric. Thanks for your videos. How about for those that hook their driver? Will this work?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 года назад

      You got it!
If you have too much hook you want to reduce how much the club face is closed to the path and/or have the path be less to the right.
You are in the under 10% of golfers so less videos for you :)
This would apply for driver and irons (all clubs)

    Dear Eric,
    a great Video, thank you.
    Can I ask you please.
If I play the fade with the driver, I think I cannot play this swing direction.
The club head must go deeper to the left.
    Is this correct?
    Thank you, Erich

It could, Chad! Of course I would have to see your swing to say for sure.....could be several reasons why you pull hook not talked about in this video...

Is this just for more distance. Would you still do this if you want a consistent fade swing because I find a small fade so much easier to hit.

    • @wannabegolfin24-72
      @wannabegolfin24-72 4 года назад +1

    • @CogornoGolf

Yes! Hips forward, pressure forward.....head back
      ruclips.net/video/hbsHxC3bIw4/видео.html
      ruclips.net/video/pbyZpiTnNlY/видео.html
Again within reason....if you watch that video on keeping head back you will see me show several good swings and how their head/upper body works on way through...
The lower body still works forward....
And you can stay TOO FAR back....as with anything else it can be overdone

Finally someone not preaching that “swing left” crap. In my opinion, if all things equal, swinging left happens naturally. It should not be the priority. The swing path is out in front as you stand on the inside of the ball & the club should feel like it swings to the front. Since you stand on the INSIDE of the ball, the club & arms will naturally make there way back to its base, which is left of the TARGET line. Sooo many instructors teaching check swings which is all swinging left is.
If you’re trying to hit it far, swing so it feels right, which is generally down the line (for the most part) but perspective is warped bcuz we stand & hit from the inside.
