Yeah Ps2-era was golden especially since the console was also Ps1-compatible. The following Ps3/Xbox 360-era was like the last good mainstream game era. Those eras produced so many great classics and hidden gems one can still discover today it's bonkers. I greatly enjoyed Lords of Shadow-Castlevanias and Dante's Inferno so discovering Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness was just pure 👌😌 Hell, those earlier eras still produced the "Good enough" 7/10 games that had more heart and ideas behind them than damn near any AAAA-cashcow "games" of today. Now it's easily 90%+ the Indie devs and modding communities that even bother to make actual games anymore.
Am currently playing Castlevania Lament of Innocence on my PS2 right now and I got to say I totally understand where you guys are coming from games nowadays aren't what they use to be I mean there's some hidden gems but it's almost scarce.

Loved this game so much, this is my favorite Castlevania game. This game released when I was 14, I played the hell out of it. When you beat the game, you unlock the music box, and can listen to the soundtrack whenever you want. I used to listen the soundtrack while cleaning my room.

Really.... as someone who grew up with the NES trilogy to playing the 16 bit and Metroidvania titles to the modern GoW style Castlevania ... Lament of Innocence is so criminally underrated.
It’s due to PS2 having such a great library of 3D platformimg games like Sly, Jak and most of all GoW. I also think every 3d vania games doesn’t get recognition due to GoW

The 2D games are still the best though. Would live to see a new Castlevania in the style of Metroid dread. Bloodstained really didn't work for me.
Years ago I was suffering a bout of insomnia. In the wee hours of the morning I gave up and turned this game on. I wound up beating The Forgotten One for the first time and went to bed around 5 am.
Wish these kinds of games would come back. Great music, not so much shoot'em up noise, interesting characters, etc. Did I mention the music? Love it. Symphony of the Night, too. I used to play this game along with Curse of Darkness. Can't any more due to arthritis in my fingers, but I do love watching others play. With that said...you missed the bonus round on the waterfall podium ride, and you didn't fill up with all you would ever need in the hallway standing by the window. Plus, it seems more than only person is playing this game? I see many rookie mistakes, but other times, it's flawless playing...hence thinking more than one person is doing this vid walkthrough.
Arthritis won't stop you from watching Castlevania longplays like this one, just don't seek out evangelist/televangelist faith healing; that shit will get you killed like Butch Hartman's trying to do nowadays after his Oaxis Entertainment scandal

This was a lot of fun from my high school years. I took a long break when I got frustrated fighting Death, and I ended up starting the game over again to re-learn all of the combos. Turns out he's just a sucker for the axe kick and was actually pretty easy.

I remember when i lived with my aunt. my uncle had a ps2 and he let me play(once). he had no memory card so it was play until you die. i remember alot of doors with seals saying I couldn't go in due to the monsters being to high level. I remember getting an axe i can throw like a boomerang. next thing I remember is being surounded by monsters and barely fighting them off. I got the bright idea to use the axe to kill alot of enimies. I died because the axe took too long to returne to me.

One of my favorites simply because it was darker compared to most of the series, and because it was the origin story. Dialogue/voice acting was cheesy, and combat left something to be desired, but I really enjoyed it still.
Probably an upscaler. The good ones aren't cheap but gorgeous, especially if you use component cables. Not an cheap hobby to take up, only worth it if you're very dedicated to retro games.

I remember when i lived with my aunt. my uncle had a ps2 and he let me play(once). he had no memory card so it was play until you die. i remember alot of doors with seals saying I couldn't go in due to the monsters being to high level. I remember getting an axe i can throw like a boomerang. next thing I remember is being surounded by monsters and barely fighting them off. I got the bright idea to use the axe to kill alot of enimies. I died because the axe took too long to returne to me.

Cant believe i miss this
One of my favorites simply because it was darker compared to most of the series, and because it was the origin story. Dialogue/voice acting was cheesy, and combat left something to be desired, but I really enjoyed it still.
Well at least the dialogue is much better in this game compared to the dialogue in Netflix's Castlevania adaptation.
How in the heck did you get such a great picture playing this through the PS2
Probably an upscaler. The good ones aren't cheap but gorgeous, especially if you use component cables. Not an cheap hobby to take up, only worth it if you're very dedicated to retro games.

This game deserves a remake. Give it new gameplay so the whip action feels smoother and tweak the story into being coherent.
