    You have to laugh. Asking an airborne division to surrender just because they are surrounded. Men literally trained to drop in behind enemy lines, their very job is to be surrounded.

    Every Sabaton song is based on actual events (at least since their first album, which was more generic metal). They also have a channel (Sabaton History) where they examine the history behind each song. There are no bad Sabaton songs, and whether you watch their epic music videos or their insane live videos all are high quality. The drum riser for the live shows is a tank (they have 2, Audie and Walter) and the mike stands are rifles. And you are correct, the German commander, Generalleutnant Freiherr von Lüttwitz requested Bastogne's surrender. Brig. Gen. Anthony McAuliffe, acting commander of the 101st, responded, "NUTS!" Thoroughly enjoying your journey with Sabaton. Since it is December, I highly recommend "Christmas Truce."

    • @Killerpixel11
      @Killerpixel11 Год назад +2

      It's even better than that. McAuliffe first thought the Germans wanted to surrender. Someone clarified and he just mumbled "nuts..." and nothing else. Since that was all he said, that's what got transferred to the Germans in response.

    • @alancarter41
      @alancarter41 Год назад +2

      @@Killerpixel11 Actually more deep than that. According to those present when McAuliffe received the German message, he read it, crumpled it into a ball, threw it in a wastepaper basket, and muttered, "Aw, nuts". The officers in McAuliffe's command post were trying to find suitable language for an official reply when Lt. Col. Harry Kinnard suggested that McAuliffe's first response summed up the situation pretty well, and the others agreed. The official reply was typed and delivered by Colonel Joseph Harper, commanding the 327th Glider Infantry, to the German delegation. It was as follows:
      To the German Commander.
      NUTS!
      The American Commander.
      The German major appeared confused and asked Harper what the message meant. Harper said, "In plain English? Go to hell." The choice of "Nuts!" rather than something earthier was typical for McAuliffe. Captain Vincent Vicari, his personal aide at the time, recalled that "General Mac was the only general I ever knew who did not use profane language. 'Nuts' was part of his normal vocabulary.

    83 year and 3 days since Winter war started between USSR and Finland. In that was a world most succesful sniper Simo Häyhä with over 500 dead enemy. Sabaton song White Death tells a story of this man.

York ) also for a back to back who did it better for that song then do Amaranthe's cover (another Swedish band who has toured with Sabaton)

    You must definitely check out the Sabaton History Channel. They explain the historical story behind each of their songs. Especially since they have songs about the history of battles, acts of heroism, real heroes, etc. historical events often not known to everyone. They have songs related to specific countries, and when they tour there, they always play them. I've been to a few of their concerts in Poland and we fans from Poland always go crazy when they play 40:1, Uprising or Winged Hussars. I'm sure it's the same when they play Screaming Eagle, Lost Battalion, 82nd All the Way, To hell and back in the USA. Brilliant reaction. 👍

    I can recommend you to listen to "en livstid i krig" live from Göteborg Sweden (it is in Swedish but there are subtitles)
    The song describes the thoughts and feelings of a fictional soldier going to war during the "30 year war" but I think it would be fairly representative of most soldiers anywhere and at any time in history when they are going to battle.
    Below is One line from the song (badly translated by me).
    Mere youth, barely a man when duty called, if I will ever see my home again, that I do not know.

    I love your Sabaton reactions. My husband got me into Sabaton when we just met and it has been my go to music ever since and I often watch reactions to it before sleeping.
    Just came across yours today and I am really glad I did. I love that you pause and add your peace of mind whenever something catches your attention. Too many reactors just silently watch the entire song and then say like 3 sentences to it. If I wanted that, I'd just go watch the original video. I am here for other people's thoughts and feelings on the song and tiny snippets of information and experiences they can add to it and you guys do exactly that and it also seems very genuine.
    Probably, as more people find these reactions you'll get a lot of comments that you are pausing too much(seen it all before). If that's the case, please don't listen to them!!!

    Subbed, looking forward to your Sabaton rabbit hole journey and it is certainly.. interesting. I'll make no specific song requests as I bet you're going to get absolute tons of them anyway. Later down the line, I might, all I'll say for now is that the Animated videos they did in collaboration with Yarn Hub are really cool, and not to shy away from Live vids, especially any of the later ones. Old content is a bit of a mixed bag, least of all due to bit rates and such.
    This line-up is the old one (members), of which some split off and later formed a band called "Civil War". Potentially also worth checking out at some point.

Also side note: the instrumental at the end is called "The Dead Soldiers Waltz". You guys should really watch "Band of Brothers" made by HBO, one of the best world war 2 TV shows ever made. The story of Easy Company of the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division and their mission in World War II Europe, from Operation Overlord to V-J Day. PS. Just want to point out, that this band is from Sweden and they have nothing do with Ukraine or Russia. Talking about the actual band that is making this music. They do songs of historical war or battle events. Like the first song you guys reacted "Uprising" was about Polish (Poland, next to Germany country in Europe) Warsaw is their capital city and the civilians rose in rebellion against the Nazi occupiers, and this was insinuated by the Russians telling them that they will come help them, but they just used the Polish civilians to their own advantage and had no plans to come and help them.
