This video shows the last steps to finish the 'leather wrapping of the VW dashboard. I would have liked to wrap this dashboard in one piece, but unfortunately is impossible...it was necessary to break it down in 14 pieces doing several cuts and sewings.
I would like to add that 'leather wrapping procedures' I show in these videos are not unique or a general rule...it is just a way to carry out this project...another car trimmers would show different methods.
I hope you find it useful!

No music, no words, just the visual demonstration of a true artist at work. absolutely beautiful work. thanks for the video.
You are welcome anytime!
Thanks for watching these videos!

Very nice, my man.
I can't decide what's more impressive....your skill or you're patience! Cool video, nice work.
Thanks so much for appreciating these videos!
Good things, come to those who have patience. I built a flying v electric guitar with a matching fitted hard case and it was worth every bit of 4 months of off and on labor. Mostly on. This guitar was my first (and probably my last) guitar build I'd do. So, anyone can build anything for the first time if they just watch enough RUclips videos for inspiration, and have a AAAAA project come out of it... I did!
I have a sweet custom molded fiberglass dashboard for my 81' camaro race car, that I was thinking about Hydro-dipping carbon fiber (I already made the huge tank needed), but after watching this guy with leather, I want to get a sewing machine..... Damn. Thanks for the awesome videos...
Very impressive! What a great skill you have acquired through years of experience.
Absolutely amazing work. Thank you for taking the time to share with us. Thank you to your camera person that must be so hard to watch such beautiful work and stay silent. And thank you to Crosby, whom I'm sure is enjoying this beautiful craftsmanship.
My son (the cameraman) and I really appreciate your kind remarks!
Thanks for watching!
I couldn't do such quality work but found your videos when researching what to do with my old Alfa Romeo cracked dash. Not only are they very informative, I must say I find them incredibly relaxing and soothing to watch! Thank you for sharing your skills and tips.
I am so glad these videos are useful!
You are welcomen anytime!
Fabulous! I’m a sculptor and this shows step by step, and how master quality takes time!
You made it look easy enough, I’m needing my dash done, You could do orders and make a fantastic living. This came out flawless
I would have glued my thumbs together long before it got to this stage. Awesome craftmanship, a privilege to watch, thank you.
Thanks so much for appreciating this art craft!
Because of the existing of people like you, human civilization became what it's right now !! You're a real artist !!
I really appreciate your nice comment!
Congratulation for the amazing work!!! Not only that you are a great artist, but sharing all your secrets with the world shows what a great person you are. Thank you so much for all the sharing!
I really appreciate your nice comment!

@@Cechaflo can you do on my super beetle?
@@dorivalpelijunior1305 I'd be glad to. I am located in Mexico and your dash would be sent down here. If interested email me to cechaflo@gmail.com
Absolutely superb!!! A true artisan demonstrating his skills without saying a word. Amazing how a human can communicate so precise with simple hand gestures to know and to teach the viewer where are the key spots. So soothing and therapeutic to watch. If I had the artist' contact info, I would send him my 1303 dashboard and do it again to watch it again. Love it! definitely a save.
Gracias cesar
Perfect wrapped...this video is awesome, I would start my own project because of this. THANK YOU for SHARING...
+Pau Malonzo I'm glad that my videos are an inspiration for you to start performing some upholstery projects!
Cechaflo THANK YOU Man! I know I have the talent to do such, but your videos (I may say..SHARING this talent you have) boost my confidence even more...again THANK YOU!
+Pau Malonzo Great! Paul, I'm so glad the video is useful! ...Start, doing your project!
I just watched the whole video, although I‘m a retired dentist and will never do anything like that myself! But I can appreciate the work of of a true professional with obvious attention to detail from my professional experience. Beautifully done! And please, please: never ever ruin the hypnotic trance of watching your work with some awful noise in the background like so many feel they must do now. This royalty free „music“ would have driven me away after 2 minutes! Thank you for not following the mainstream!
Thanks so much for watching this video!
I really appreciate it!
Very fine, whoever filmed this did a great job. I hope you have an apprentice working with you as well. It is very beautiful.
Hello Andrew, Thanks so much for appreciating this video!
Thank you for sharing this. You are a true master. Best wishes from Germany to Guadalajara City!
Have a good time too! Greetings from Mexico!
Cesar, another excellent video. I started watching your videos a few weeks ago and I'm addicted. I ordered leather for my car yesterday. I plan to wrap all of the plastic bits and then do the seats. I wish I was closer... I would just have you do it for me!
+John Crumpton Hi John, Thanks for watching my videos and following me on you tube!
If some upholstery question, please, do not hesitate in asking.
That dashboard came out amazing! I'm working on one very similar to it and your video is a great help. thanks again for sharing your knowledge I can't wait for the next video sir.
+hernan lopez Hello Hernan, I'm glad that my videos are useful and of some inspiration for you! Users like you help a lot to increase and improve this upholstery channel! There is still a great amount of videos to post.
This is the kind of thing you watch thinking you'll do it yourself, then you see and go.. oh, yeah can I hire this guy!.
Thanks very much for all your videos. I am definitely one of your students. I have already made some money leather wrapping a shifter knob with techniques I learned from you. I plan to move on to steering wheels next.
You are welcome, Joel!
In a few days more I would have for sale a first real course of a series related to 'how to easily wrap in leather a steering-wheel using a practical method'.
I would be informing on youtube.
i love your works ...i am tig-wig welder but you are great...wonderful
I really appreciate your kind remarks!
This is exactly what I was looking for to do my truck dash. Perfect and beautiful.
incredible work as usual! my only question though is, who on earth is paying to wrap a Super Beetle dash in leather?!?!
Excellent job. I am a big fan of his videos , real art .

i watched all of your videos from the start to finish. and it turned out amazing. your workmanship is excellent. wanted to ask. are you self taught. or did you learn this craft in school. many yrs back. you realy do some great work. i would love to learn this. have you ever thought of putting these videos out for sale . because i certainly would buy every one of your videos.if they where for sale. but would like to know the steps in buying the right sewing machine. etc. if you could help with the advice. on how to get started and what tools you need. thanks so much for showing your craft. honestly you do some beautiful work...
Thanks for watching the videos! I am a self-taught upholsterer and I'm still learning everyday this beautiful craft.
I have three 'basic courses' for sale. I did them as a test to measure the response of interested users. In fact, no much purchases, people want free videos, people don't buy. That's why I have most of the basics for free on youtube.
But, I have decided to do something different, more advanced videos. My son and I have ready our first for-sale video course of a series related to 'how to easily leather wrap a steering-wheel' by using a practical method. Most of the basics, such as 'stitching patterns',and other ideas, etc. are free on youtube. This first course includes two big videos, one of 4 hours, and the other of 2 hrs, plus 4 support videos of half an hour each one, and a big pdf manual. I will be announcing it on you tube pretty soon.
Verdadero arte tu trabajo increíble
Your works are really nice sir. I am from india. I am planing to start these kind of work. I would like to get a beginners video for these kind of work. Please share with me if you have.
Glad to see you find this video useful, this is part of a 7 video series

Very interesting series, I was surprised they did not cover the strip at the top of the Glove Box (Or it looked like they hadn't). And after all that work then to spoil it with that ugly above the dash extra instruments, I think I would have extended the "Pod" that is already there. TY
Great job! i Love your works..!

Amazing!!! Se notan los años de experiencia.
Is the presser foot you use in this video a "left toe zipper foot" that you have modified? I can't find a presser foot that looks like the one you use. Excellent videos, thanks for sharing them.
+Nate Brown It looks like a 'zipper foot', but it isn't...get a 'standard foot' and with a moto tool you could cut off some part of the little foot.

Exquisite work, thank you for sharing! What is the mount coming out of the center of the dash? I'd love to see the rest of that Beetle. I have a '74 in the early stages of a custom "restore"
Patience of a Saint. What would the cost of something like this be? So labor intensive.
Greetings from Morocco
Owsome job
Thanks so much for watching this video!
Beautiful craftmenship..
beautiful job, thanks for sharing
+jwhrivnak Thanks for watching and appreciating my job!
Also, where is part 1? I'd appreciate seeing the what appears to be bondo work as the base layer.
Something wrong happened to video 1 that it was deleted. I only did the leather wrapping process. The bondo work, adaptation and elongation of hump part was done by the owner Brent Crosby (baxsie). Hopefully, you find information on the samba.com forum www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=640144 (older posts)
Is the adhesive you used for this the same as what you've suggested before? The yellow contact adhesive (DAP Weldwood)? If so, do you ever have issues on items that get direct sunlight/heat? I thought that glue "reactivates" with heat and am worried it will release when sitting in the sun all day at work. Also...do you get fumes when it heats up? Thanks!!
+JEG's Garage This yellowish adhesive is used to stick formica in carpentry and it works Ok for leather...it does not heat up...just some bad odor because of the solvent(thinner)...when it dries it sticks very hard...I'd recomend to test the product two or three times beforehand to gain more confidence. Check the Hog Ring Automotive Forum...master trimmer Richard (Concours- Interiors) seems to be using same product...check the pictures in the middle:www.thehogring.com/auto-upholstery-forum/auto-upholstery-forum-group4/lets-talk-shop-forum3/concours-interiors-latest-ferrari-project-thread2642.0/
If you subscribe to the forum, you could start a thread about the best contact cements/adhesives useful to do upholstery...I do not know much about these products in USA...I'm located in Mexico and trade marks are different...I tried out the DAP-weldwood from Home Depot-Mexico, because my friend who is a carpenter told me that it was the same product to stick leather...as mentioned, he said do not confuse this product with the 'white carpenter's glue'...this product is used to stick formica.
You are welcome!
+Cechaflo Thanks once again for the reply! I will check the forum out. The Weldwood seems to get good reviews for use with leather and materials like that. I just read somewhere that you can heat it back up to reactivate it, and that made me think the sun might screw with it. I feel ok enough to give it a try!
+JEG's Garage Thats great! ...anyhow, do some tests beforehand and let us know the outcome, if possible.
Heat dryers are mostly used to stretch vinyl and other synthetic materials. It is useful to get an even surface considering heat shrinks the leather material.
I'd better take advantage of stretchy side of leather and use a hair dryer at the end to erase some wrinkles.
ruclips.net/video/dhmCJFpOs_0/видео.html
as always awesome videos, i was wondering can any leather or any vinyl be used for car interior as long as it is flexible
+nikita hirsch Yes, of course! ...Any 'Flexible vinyl' can be used for the interior...In case of leather, not any...it is advisable the use of 'automotive leather' because it has a sealer/lacquer on top surface as a protection.
I've been doing upholstery for about five years now. I've watch 100's if not 1000's of videos. Your tutorials have been the best I've ever seen. Without saying a word, you're more descriptive than anyone else on RUclips. You should be very proud of yourself! You're an amazing craftsman! I spent this entire weekend watching hours and hours of your videos. Like so many others have said, I'm addicted as well. I became bored with the usual seat cushion here and motorcycle seat there, jobs. I've always been afraid of getting into the car interior jobs. You've inspired me to reconsider. I'll be working on my 1985 El Camino I purchased a year ago. I only have one question. What type of contact cement are you using? Some have suggested Weldwood contact adhesive, original yellow. What do you recommend? I'm from the East Coast, USA. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge. You're an inspiration to many whether you know it or not. God Bless
+Stitch Boucher Thanks a lot for your valuable comment!!! As a matter of fact, in most of the videos I try to apply the useful 'visual method'...in other words, 'watch carefully, understand and learn upholstery'. The main purpose of these videos is to give ideas, so the interested viewer could learn something and improve it on his own way.
I've used a yellow glue which comes in cans or bottles...You could buy online, check:

Cechaflo ,
Would love a job doing something like this, pity there’s nothing in NI like this
excellent work
Thanks so much for appreciating this job!
Really nice work and very informative videos. I noticed at some points while doing the french seams that it doesn't sound like your machine is running and your right hand is never on the work piece. Do you do a lot of this work by hand turning the machine?
Usually, some jobs require to sew at a very slow speed, so it is necessary to move the machine 'by hand'. A 'servo motor' would be very useful in this case.

Definitely man. I wish there was somewhere local I could attend to learn hands on.

All of these basics would take us to start a series in leather upholstery videos...In fact, we have already started...it is matter of a few days to start wityh a veideo course for beginners related to how to how to easily wrap in leather the rim of a car steering-wheel. Mr Cechaflo i wanted to ask you which type of glue you are using to glue the leather or vinyl on the dashboard. I am from Cyprus and the glues we are using, because of the high temperatures we have, can not glued well the vinyl/leather on the dashboard. Could you please suggest me a certain brand or type of glue i can use? Thank you in advance!
I use an upholstery yellow glue which is pasted with a brush. I have no much idea how it would behave on high temperatures.
I have a video that hopefully could give an idea about brushable glues:ruclips.net/video/o2xeezdF8Ss/видео.html

very very good
WHAT WAS THE TOTAL TIME SPENT TO COMPLETION FOR THIS MASTERPIECE?...If only i had a sewing machine, and 1/2 the skill set....for hire in the states?
+Rob Strunk I spent approx. two weeks to get this job done.
2 weeks = $$$$!
Mister Cesar hello ,I hope you are good in your health ! I want to ask you how and you don't heat the leather with a hot air gun before you glue it ? I have seen some other videos that they heat the leather ,here is no nessesary?
The heat gun is useful to hurry up the drying time of glue. It coul be used if necessary.
As leather shrinkis with heat, I sometimes use the heat gun to erase some wrinkles. I should use the heat gun a certain distance to avoid burning of material. A very hot day with strong sunrays are also useful. Much more for vinyl material.
Maestro! ....Vero!

I love your work , have seen many of your videos
I have a Grand Marquis (Crown Vic) 04 and was wandering if you think it would be possible to leather wrap the dash , it's so cheap now . Just plastic and more plastic
Thanks
Any dashboard can be wrapped in leather.
Thank you for all your answers
Where in the world are you
nice
I apologize if you already answered this question but how many hours would you say you have in this dash from start to finish?
+Justin Ford Interesting question! ...If I would have devoted 100% of my time, it would have taken a week at most, provided that, it were only the wrapping of the piece. It took me two weeks, because I had to do some repairings and adjustments, such as, peel off/sand some areas of plastic dashboard to let other pieces fit in, considering the thickness of leather material.
Thanks for watching our videos!
What kinda glue you using? I'm looking to do the same to my dash .
