Their debut album "Adrenaline" takes the cake for being the most aggressive... this comes in at a close 2nd on that scale. I'd say this is their darkest sounding album sonically, very somber and straight up depressing at certain points. A lot of tensions between the band members at the time too.
Once you're done reacting to Deftones' albums, you should give Chino's side project Team Sleep a try. Their only studio album has a lo-fi, electronic, shoegaze sound I think you would find intersting. Also fun fact, Death Grips' drummer, Zach Hill, was in Team Sleep as well so it's kinda like a supergroup in a way
WGTB is my favorite is this album. It helps that I was in kind of a bad relationship at the time, so I related a lot to the lyrics "You always sharpen your teeth cause you're like that, and you're like that every time you pull heart back" That shit resonated with me on a personal level
Basically to give you a quick rundown.. 00’-06 are the dark days for Deftones it being for many factors self titled was them in the middle of it.. they were getting divorced , losing custody of their kids, and heavily addicted to drugs ( Chino, Chi and Abe to be exact) this album was all over the place as it dragged on for months and they got fined 2M$ for it, they didn’t tour it as long as they wanted to and they had realized making music wasn’t fun anymore and you can hear all those brutal emotions in the songs themselves to add on Moreno stated “I was a little out of my mind, with drugs and family or whatever, and just sort of in a dark place. That record is really heavy in that way. It’s probably one of our only records that when I listen to it, I get a weird feeling. Some of the stuff’s not comfortable for me to listen to.” Although this is all true this album still stands as a masterpiece and their best aged work along with Saturday Night Wrist
This one certainly grew on me it’s now one of my favourites after many listens and your right though around the fur is the most overrated Deftones album for me like there’s way better Deftones

you should react to gore by deftones if you wanna listen to more of their albums
I think it’ll grow for you but anniversary is probably my fav off this album
You need to listen to their Gore album
