- "Ti saluto! (Vado in Abissina!)" is one of the Italian songs of the military troops composed on the occasion of the war in Ethiopia. He was second in fame only to "Faccetta Nera", often occupying the B side of the 78s of this one.
The text was written by Pinchi, with music by Renzo Oldrati Rossi. The score was published in 1935 for the "Ritmi e Canzoni" Editions of Milan. It was immediately brought to success by Crivel, but was soon performed and recorded by various other popular light tenors of the time, such as Aldo Masseglia, Fernando Orlandis, Miscel, Renzo Mori, Guido Serpelloni for the labels of the time: Durium, Fonit, Columbia , Gramophone, Phonotechnics.
The text outlines an anonymous young soldier who happily leaves from his native country by train to Ethiopia, together with fellow soldiers, both peers and older and more decorated, all united by military songs. The old veterans, having passed the age of conscription, regret not being able to leave. In the refrain, the young recruit greets her in love Virginia, to whom she promises to write from the front and to return after having successfully raised the Tricolor "From the Alps to the sea" and "to the Equator".
