- With 33 locations in India and 72 across the world, this Saravana Bhawan has set the benchmark for India’s culinary offerings. But hidden inside Saravana Bhawan’s dosa isn’t just a delicious potato mix, but a mysterious ingredient that took years to unfurl. An ingredient that had captured the state of Tamil Nadu, jolting its capital city of Chennai to a halt. That secret ingredient was murder. This is the story of the man who built a dosa empire that feeds millions across the world, and his ultimate downfall. This is the story of the Deadly Dosa King, P. Rajagopal.

I am a retired radio broadcaster, documentary writer and professional voice. I am a tough judge. Aryaan! You are totally brilliant. Presentation, diction, commentary, script. Excellent!! Keep up the great work.
Hey, thank you for the sweet feedback!
Well, the narrative was
Excellent and astonishing flawless English.
I have an unbelievable
Story for you.
Rajagopal was known to me very well. I was an airline Captain, living in kknagar. He comes to my house to deliver the grocery and in 1988,once he came to collect his money. I came out from bathroom offered a seat in my new Sofa. He said that his doti is dirty and doesn't want to dirty the sofa...!!
I paid him. With a smile.
Suddenly he vanished after 6 months. Sold his shop. Years rolled by.
I was a very senior
Boeing captain earning 3 lacs a month as an Indian Airlines captain, who was comming comming down, the staircase of kk nagar saravanabhavan, when Rajagopal' S salary in business was 3000 crores an year. Rajagopal was climbing up with his managers. He never recognised me, and I don't want to embarrass him with my conversation, reminding his very humble past.
I was full of hatred for this animal , and years ago he was given double life sentences, in high court. One totally wrong information in your narration was, he never spent a single day in jail.
He spent few days in police custody, and the police loved him, for they had a full lottery ticket.... That is Rajagopal....!!.
Even the constables were presented with 2n hand ambassador cars.....!!!
To them he was the most lucky charm....
It is unfortunate that the day he got double life imprisonment, he got bail with the same lady judge.......and 14 years after that ,came Supreme
Court hearing, and in no part of the world justice
Delayed this extent...
Capt. Bharathi.
6380865208.
If I tell to my friends , they don't even believe my story......!!!!
Contd....
His salary when I met him
Was 10,000 times more than me after 22 years....
I second that. Excellent narration. Flawless, actually.
Misprounciation of dosa and sambar
My husband doesn’t really listen to true crime but I didn’t put on my headphones for this one and he truly enjoyed this. Amazing narration! Loved this one
Hey, thanks a ton for the sweet feedback!
"The next time you sit at a Saravana Bhavan restaurant to eat a Dosai, don't forget the blood, sweat and tears that went into making it"- that was a profound ending.
Yup, I don't think I can relish a meal at a Saravan Bhavan Restaurant after hearing that story.
Same Anita Same!
Working in west,USA Australia and Arab nation also has blood of natives..How about feeling smell of blood while eating in these nations.
so true
@@Ramarao-dq8mfwell said. Because one person or founder had weakness we cant stop eating there. That person is no more know and he paid for his deeds
Are you sure it was "teas" or "tears", that went into making....😂
Hey guys, the commercial isn't from the 80s, it aired at around 2005 - 2008. The channel logo you see in the bottom left, that channel also didn't exist until 2005 lol. Love from Chennai ❤
Yeah that inaccuracy irked me a bit
Watching this while sitting at Saravanaa Bhavan waiting for my order 🙂
Badass
Yuck 😝
I would have just left.
Legend 🗿
😅
mondays are for bailey sarian and saturdays are for desi crime studios
So truee
Yesssss
Bailey Sarian is the one who dragged me into this rabbit hole😂
@@soumyayadav1725so glad to find my homiessss❤
Yyyaaassss
Why didn’t Santa Kumar go to Mumbai and figure out a way for his wife to join him ..??? So heart breaking that such a love had to go through hell in this world
I can relate to this. One of my then colleagues, a doctor from Malar hospital in Chennai, who was staying with uncle during weekend was attacked by a group of men in the middle of a night in his sleep. He was alone in the house. During the process they were calling him by a wrong name. He screamed and said I am not “….”, I am “so and so”. They said “ sorry, mistaken identity”. I remember he had told the police the name Daniel, and that they were sent by Saravana owner, looking for his uncle who was working for Saravana Bhawan. This would have been between 1998- 2000.
What a narration!! Hands on u guys!! It really does takes alot to narrate real lyf incidents to the people on this platform. U nailed it bruh!!
Please cover a child murder case who was just 5 years old " Yug kidnapping and murder case from Shimla Himachal Pradesh" he was murdered and his body was dumped in a water tank and that water tank supplied water to many localities for almost 2 years
thats sick
Humans are tough, they drank poisonous water for two years and yet survived? 😂
So they do not clean the water tank for 2 yrs. Can't believe this 😱
This is so interesting... someone must make a movie or a Netflix series on this story ...so many twists n turns
this episode was CRAZY. yes that's the word. OMG. so messed up and crazy. Loved it so much ✨✨
There is crowd outside sarvana bhawan every evening in Delhi that speaks volumes about the quality
Quality and blood mingled
Favourite joint of kejri and atishi 😅
Oohlala i just couldn't stop to listen to the report, wow great narrative, attitude, language and vocabu, hmm hmm dramatic, best co- partner at the desk. Best wishes... .
Beautiful narration. Keep it up 👏. I wanted to know the Sarvana Bhavan story for a long time . Thought it’s slightly long it really glued me to your beautiful narration.
This was one of the BEST BEST NARRATION OF A CRIME STORY! Netflix USA. Hire these 2!
So glad to have found another true crime channel! Great work! You’ve gained a new sub from Toronto 😇
I knew this case, but not in so detail. Thank you guys, for releasing this podcast. Even though I am not a member idk how but I was able to watch/listen it before premiere.
Honourable Sir/ Madam!
You are once again impeccable with your narration!
Amazing story telling, sans crutches of plethora of visuals!
Regards with Gratitude
Choosing between Physics exam on Monday and Desi Crime, me: Ooh, new episode *Click *
The downfall of Saravana Bhavan is really heartbreaking, there was one near my home, my family would often go there. It was one of the branches that faced the axe after Rajagopalan's death. There was another Saravana Bhavan located in Usman Road (a shopping hub in Chennai; started to cater to the shoppers); there was also a party hall behind the restaurant. The front restaurant is now owned by another great chain of South Indian restaurants, Murugan Idli Shop, and the party hall has now been converted into the Saravana Bhavan branch. I also remember going to the Saravana Bhavan in Muscat when I was living there, it was a 2 floor establishment, and it gave so much joy to see a South Indian restaurant at a foreign country. The K.K. Nagar branch continues to function at the same place. To be honest, my family no longer goes to Saravana Bhavan, the quality has degraded, it no longer tastes like before. Such an heartbreaking end for such great restaurants.
Same😭
sameee oml the muscat branch is so nostalgic looking back , that’s where all our family friends would gather and have a wonderful time together
Is this podcast for destroying this business . Was the crime done for running hotel? No ..so don't mix up all. Then don't go to uK ,west, Arab nations ...all have blood in their hands.
Greed, Lust, Jealousy, Anger & Hatred NEVER pay!!!! Crime NEVER pays!!!
It was always overhyped and expensive compared to Sangeeta and Vasantha Bhavan.
You guys are really good, especially the speed with which you narrate. Keep up the great work guys! Have you done a video for Aarushi yet?
16:36 .Boy is badly craving for that dosa!!! Look at him🤣🤣
That astrologer should have been jailed!
Everyone of Indian origin knows Saravana Bhavan. I never knew this crime story. You are a good story teller young man. Keep up the good work. ❤
Southern indian origin*
Honestly, you guys are doing a wonderful job. This is the sort of content i love and thank you for having an indian version of it.
Well narrated, I have been to sarvana bhawan in new Delhi in the year 2012-13. Unaware of this mystery. Thanks for sharing
My dad worked as a manager in Saravana bhavan for the past 20 years and i know abt all these things before he got accused for murder ....
Was your dad Daniel?
What? 😂😂😂@@navrangarajan8642
Wonderful way of presenting. Also the language spoken is top notch
Amazing! Really loved the way you told the story. Keep rocking 🙏
Thanks a ton
İ think when a philanthropist is treated like a God. And when he himself develops that god complex that he is a sustainer provider healer then he tries to be the real authority over life and deaths of people. U know the same arrogance that u see in the brilliant surgeons sometimes
Your narration skills are top notch and your colleague is complimenting you nicely. Good job.
Wonderfully narrated , hard to think eating now at Saravana bhavan
I don't think the last sentence was necessary. Now, I can't enjoy my dosa. 😢 Been eating at this place for the last ten years. 😭
P.S. You guys are doing a great job. The writing is a masterpiece and beautifully engaging. The narration is absolute gold. Would just love if there was more of this bidirectional interaction we see glimpses of in between. Keep up with the work!!!
The way I clicked SO FAST on this video, my day is made. Ily guys sm
You're the one Anushka!
That was a perfect narration. I liked it kid! You have it in you, what it calls for!! Great going!!!
Remember this case well but this narration is so detailed. What a sad disgrace and tragedy. Excellent narration!
Found your channel yesterday...you gained a new sub...binge watching your videos..😊 watching you guys from uk
Thanks for subbing!
Hi Aishwarya and Aaryan.. love your work... Just wanted your help in awareness of kintans death.. he deserves justice
Aaryan, I found this name on the comment thread and hope this is the name of the young narrator. You’re doing an excellent job. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from NZ 🇳🇿
I got acquainted with Saravanna Bhavan in Dubai in the early 2000s. Didn't become a fan instantly because the food that I ordered was super spicy. I left Dubai in 2022, but visited Dubai again in Feb 2024. I got invited for a buffet breakfast at Saravanna Bhavan. It was good this time.
Well done guys. Very Well written and presented. You help my attention from start to finish. Amazing narration....and I Loove Aishwarya.
Thank you for watching ❤️
Very interesting topic and loved the overall edits, just feel the videos are too long. Maybe 10-15 min would be great ✌️
I am currently in Mumbai from Spain …your channel came on my feed. New sub here your narration in English is excellent. Thank you
Thanks and welcome
You guys are good but stretch the content bit too much. Your episode can easily be cut short by 15 -20 mins if u keep the video relevant and apt. It saves others time as well
Aryan, that’s an awesome narration with a beautiful voice diction! !
Glad I found this channel of brilliant story telling ❤
It was a great narration..well done…pls keep interruptions and interrupters (those that don’t add value to the narration) away..
Cant believe this actually happened in India..
My idea of India is : a place full of gurus, worship, temples, religious people etc...but I suppose you get all types of people in every country..keep well and stay blessed.
A very well compiled narration.
I always wondered why you guys never touched this case. 😎👍
wow! What an episode! Hearing it for the first time.
Your narration skills are crazyy!!
A top notch narration... Impeccable thank you
You both did a fantastic job well done. Shared multiple times and also the podcast (which 1st caught my eye on, promoted by Spotify)
You're headed for stardom hold on tight. Here comes the quickening. (Highlander movie reference (Gen X))
Good job.. The fact is there are so many missing pages I would say.
He also expanded his business all over the world. Singapore, Malaysia, Gulf countries, USA etc.
I admire Mr Rajagopal for his business expansion from Tamil Nadu to other parts of India & to other countries( of course not to ur enemy countries pakistan & bangladesh)
I salute him for that.
I had food at this K K Nagar Saravana Bhavan, during 1992 to 1994 and I had probably seen this man Annachi at the restaurant counter then.
Gooing so good ❤❤keep it up both of you 💜💜
Great writing and story telling skills.....😊
Excellent presentation, diction , commentary……
Excellent presentation, Mr. Aryaan! Sad story but you made it an interesting narrative! I wish you the best in your venture! Godspeed! An FYI on Dosa. I tried to get a ghee dosa from NY to the West Coast, and from Detroit to Florida, and everywhere in between. No luck! Then I requested my Venkateshwara Temple priest friend (Tirupati background) in Livermore, CA, to make me one, and his answer was that he could not make them because of the lack of certain ingredients. Masala dosa does not cut it. South Indian Ghee dosa is the real McCoy. Time to give up!
Well narration young man. Excellent.
Fame lead Rajagopal to Ravan niti. History repeats.
Thank you for watching!
Going to savanna bhavan is difficult with this narration :(
There’s a Sarvana Bhavan in Dallas, Texas too. The guy had so much going for him and chose to be a jerk as his power grew. Kinda sad. Had everything, yet nothing at all. He grew his business but not his love for family.
it would have been a lot better if you reduced the inter active dialogue with your female counter part.
Great podcast and good narration of the incident. 🙂
We usually eat in Saravana Bhavan in London and will continue to do so.
Rajagopalan is dead, but the resturant still provides employment for others.
The breaks in narration is distracting.
Excellent presentation. Few Indian videos equal this.
Amazing work
Wow, u r a beautiful story teller lije Mr . Ballen ❤
Awesome narration dude.. Have followed this case until Annachi died.. Well summarized.
Couple of pointers for the future ones: 1) Cut that girl off from future narrations, she is messing up the flow.. Maybe she can be behind camera helping with technical stuff.. LOL.. No offense girl 2) You missed entirely to call out what happened to Jeevajyoti in the end..
Keep up great work and more crime stories coming!
agree.....
Just watch their other videos in which she narrates the story. He interrupts as shit.
I used to listen you both in audio podcast good to see you. Great work as usaul.
The intro is damn good🔥🔥
Superb presentation!!!
Nice story and Saravana Bhawan Dosas are the best and I love their chutneys.I lived in Delhi and visted the one in CP and not far from there is another outlet in Barakhamba Road.Sad to know that person being prayed the most preyed the upon the life of someone just on the pretext of the soothsayers prediction. Please host the show by yourself, it will do better.
have u 100 percent checked what this youtuber has said is right or wrong ??
I love south Indian food, I love Saravana Bhavan. Eating there won't be ever same again. Damn.
Narration and video THE BEST .
Wonder if he would torture you for posting it on RUclips 🤔 like in the movies ….
Love the format of this show
I wish there was more commentary on how easily he got away...lived a full life!
The Big Shots Dosa king on Spotify is also a good one.
Aishwarya is very distracting.
How so?
@@Koustabh7904 questions in the middle of the story breaks the intensity that's why.
Just watch what Aryaan does when she narrates the story. Lol
.....yes she is a pain at all the wrong places...
Don't be jealous that she gets to be with aryaan and u don't
Just did science boards nothing better like relaxing with desi crime video
Brilliant work….Aryaan..
Your narration is really good. Loved the way u narrate but Aishwarya breaks it and it's very annoying. U loose the grip of the story. My suggestion would be. Pls complete the narration and then keep the discussions at the end.
Absolutely and on top of that she contributes nothing just comes across as clueless and irritating
I was also thinking the same ...she was just breaking the flow.
They can have the conversation after covering the whole narration
Good one at first impression however the time can be reduced by avoiding conversations in between. The conversation felt like an advertisement between an action movie!
its dosa crime y'all
Arianaaa, what're you doing hereeee?!!
nice sambhar, will continue to support saravana
awesome episode 😍😍🤧🤧
Amazing narration and storytelling....
Thank you!
Feel sorry for Daniel. How bad Daniel felt. Seriously.
Excellent 👌
Oh!I love deshi studio and enjoy
Hearing you two. my only request is , as I am learning communication skills and spoken English please please please try to give captions if possible
Thank you
I have an important exam in English, I understand it perfectly well ....if they don't give caption and you want them ....just reply here I will write caption for you in comments
Thank you so much for sharing
Why she interrupts him
She's there for a reason na 🤣
😂😂😅
Irritating lady
You two are good. Keep going.
Hey guys! Have been a avid listener of yours for about 1.5 years.. I always look forward to your videos.. so glad you two are back strong 😃
And this case is so infamous in Chennai that, me and my family have been such regulars in Saravanan Bhavan.. and so were so many people.. they popularised South Indian food to an unimaginable extent.. this one incident just made a huge dip in their reliability and ever since that, we can never get ourselves to trust this brand.. so glad you are covering it..
Ohh my gawdd!!.. From where do you guies find such amazing story.. Damm good buddies 👏👏
Great presentation Ayaan, good narration and I am glad P. Rajagopalan gone...
Guys, try to do graphics pictured in India that suits your narratives.
