I must say, that I have scrolled through various videos searching for (someone) who could explain what they are talking about, without boring me to tears, and I happened upon you. I appreciate your presentation and explanation about this plant, but I too was wondering about the use of the stem and flowers, for medicinal purposes, because I don’t have any means to compost.

You can use the flowers, but it's best to use plant before it flowers for the best potency. The chemical coumpounds are contained in the leaves.
The stems are really thick and woody and aren't good for medicinal uses. Unfortunately they are only good for garbage.

@@GardenJensJourney How do I use the flowers? Unfortunately, I didn’t know about harvesting them before they bloomed, but I really appreciated your stating that the leaves could be brewed fresh , because my dehydrator has a high heat, and would destroy any attempt at preserving them. No other sites, stressed this important fact. You have a new subscriber, and I look forward to viewing your canning videos as well. Thank you for responding so quickly, because this too is lacking in other sites.

@davidadausuel4537 using them in a tea, just like the leaves. I would recommend that you get a dehydrator with an adjustable thermostat.
You can also make a tincture with the leaves and flowers. You fill a jar 1/2 ful of plant material, then fill it the rest of the way with 80 proof Vodka. Let it steep for 4-6 weeks, shaking it once a day for the first two weeks. Then strain, and store the liquid in a jar with a tight fitting lid, in a cool, dark place. It will keep for yeard.

How do you keep your mints from cross-pollinating? Loving all you share from North Idaho zone 6a 💚🌻🌿

I'm not too worried about my mints cross pollinating, as they are perennials, that grow more from the root base already established, rather than new plants. I also pull out the new shoots in the spring.
But for seed saving, I make sure the ones I'm saving seed from, aren't flowering at the same time as another. When one is done flowering, I will let the other flower. Very easy to do. 😊

What did you do with the stems you separated, did you find a use for them or did you just compost?

Came back to ask ❓ please don't lol but is this the same cat nip that you buy in the pets department just wondering if I could grow it instead of buying

      LOL!!!
Just kidding. That's actually a very good question. Not many people know. The answer is: yes.
In fact there have been years I had to put a cage around it to keep my own cats from accidentally killing it by eating it so much.
