      As for me, I grow 6 or 7 kinds of mint - the regular one, chocolate mint, orange, apple, lemon, Melissa, - and I harvest and dry their leaves at the end of May. I usually grow them in large plastic pots from flowers I bought in nurseries. The reason: keeping the plants from uncontrollable spreading + for a better water retention, 'cause I live on a hill. Currently I have about 35 such plants. And I definitely will add catnip to my garden, since my son adopted two wonderful kittens. I started looking for it.
      Mixing dry leaves from different mint plants gives a unique type of tea mixture that combine calming and anesthetic properties, so it is a perfect thing to use in tisanes.
      And now, I'm going to experiment with catnip...

      @@soupricemf1260 - the best way to dry harvested leaves and stems is in shade, avoiding the direct sun to avoid losing precious oils... I usually cut them early in the morning on hot summer days and put them on clean towels in my garden shed, going there 2 - 3 times during the day to turn them. - When dried, leaves go into big glass jars that I keep closed. The mixture, if stored and kept in dark kitchen cabinets, keeps its properties for years... Suffice to say that my friends around who are into natural healing and herbs ask me all the time to give them some for the their excellent properties... And I do it with pleasure

      -
      Jesus the Christ loves you, praise YHWH our Elohim
      -
      Evidence for Jesus Christ’s existence, crucifixion, and disappearance from the tomb (He rose from it):
      The Lord Jesus Christ did exist, gathered disciples, and was crucified and went missing from the tomb. To argue about wether He was taken from the grave or rose from it, is an argument a skeptic can make. Because well if you disregard the eye witness testimony of the disciples and there willingness to die for Christ, and humans won’t die for something they know is a lie, when Peter is pinned upside down to that cross, he could have said that it was a fake, but He didn’t because it wasn’t, what care would he have about death in this world if he knew for a fact he had assurance of a life in another, Jesus Christ did rise from the tomb and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Now the evidence for the Lord Jesus Christ’s existence really isn’t hard to find a multitude of non-Christian scholars and historians mention Him within 150 years after the time of His life. One such is Tacitus a Roman historian who reported on emperor nero’s decision to blame the Christians for the fire that had destroyed rome in 64 AD. Tacitus wrote:
      “Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome…”
      In this Tacitus makes reference to not only Christians, but Christ calling Him Christus and confirming the Gospels going on to say that He suffered the extreme penalty (crucifixion) under the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilate, which like I said confirms the Gospels narrative.
      Another important source of evidence about Jesus and early Christianity can be found in the letters of Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan. Pliny was the Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In one of his letters, dated around A.D. 112, he asks Trajan's advice about the appropriate way to conduct legal proceedings against those accused of being Christians. Pliny says that he needed to consult the emperor about this issue because a great multitude of every age, class, and sex stood accused of Christianity. At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians:
      “They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food - but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.”
      This passage provides a number of interesting insights into the beliefs and practices of early Christians. First, we see that Christians regularly met on a certain fixed day for worship. Second, their worship was directed to Christ, demonstrating that they firmly believed in His divinity. Furthermore, one scholar interprets Pliny's statement that hymns were sung to Christ, "as to a god", as a reference to the rather distinctive fact that, "unlike other gods who were worshipped, Christ was a person who had lived on earth." If this interpretation is correct, Pliny understood that Christians were worshipping an actual historical person as God! Of course, this agrees perfectly with the New Testament doctrine that Jesus was both God and man.
      You may have heard of the scholar Flavius Josephus who mentioned James as being the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, which matches what Paul said calling James “The Lord’s brother” and there is another document that Josephus may have written which goes:
      “About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.”
      Now it’s up to debate wether this is the entirely original document of what Josephus wrote, or if a Christian had edited it. But regardless he wrote about the Lord Jesus Christ. Wether it was negative or positive like the possible document is. Anyways there are many other statements, documents, letters, and writings of all sorts from the ancient world talking about the Lord Jesus Christ and there is not one question if He was a real person or if He was crucified and went missing from the grave. That is clear as day, He is a real person, was crucified, and went missing from the grave. And He did rise from the grave. And for more evidence of the Lord Jesus Christ, there’s the Bible and you see there is no evidence the Bible is corrupted, a lie, created by the Roman government, folktale. It is the recount of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, now wether you want to believe it is up to you. And what profit was there in spreading Christianity, All the early Christian suffered persecution, beatings, and were killed. Another Scholar reported that James the Lord’s Brother was thrown off a building and then stoned to death for spreading the Gospel in Jerusalem. These people went to great lengths even giving their own lives for the Adon Jesus the Christ.

    As for catnip, it was one of the main ingredients in the Ukrainian Kozaky drink called Horialka. Hemp (u-hum) was #1. Also chamomile, slippery elm, Valerian, up to I think 21 herbs. Place in vodka, let it sit a while, strain and drink. The strained herbs were dried and smoked. Yeah for being in a Living History group :)

      @tkmccoywv 8 лет назад +4

      +BaltimoresBerzerker HA! Not that I'm aware of. I'm unaware of any percentage of people hallucinating from Horialka, as they do from absinthe (I'm not one, btw. Grrrr). The herbs that were (still are) used are all chill-out herbs. The Kozaky drank this in vast quantities. Until the battle flag went up. I can give you a very lengthy explanation if you wish, but think about this: the Kozaky were the fighting warriors of this society. That was pretty much their only purpose. When not at war, they're drinking massive amounts of a highly drugged alcohol. The battle flag goes up, no more Horialka on pain of death. Yes, this was truly punishable by death. All these battle-hardened men, drunk and stoned on chill-out herb laced vodka, suddenly cut off, cold turkey, and sent into battle. (They were allowed other alcoholic beverages, but not their beloved Horialka). You wanna fight one of these guys? YIKES! It is the national drink of Ukraine, by the way. If you wish to make your own (minus one, as we always put it in camp, since the main ingredient is still, unfortunately, mostly illegal), use some Sleepy Time Extra tea and steep it in your favorite vodka for a few hours to a few days, as you wish. PRESTO! a pretty good substitute of Horialka. Cheers!

      +Teresa McCoy :) love the historical romance between warriors and the drink, that's hilarious and bad ass. unlike many viewers, I enjoy long versions too lol. if you have the time, I would love to hear your knowledge on history, ingredients, and production! I asked because I did some serious research into absinthe, and it has some of the same ingredients....lol is that banned ingredient a popular one world wide?

    My cats love fresh catnip and I have a huge plant I grew from seed on a large pot. Cats won't fudge with it but as soon as I break I leaf and they're near by the start to go crazy. So I usually just cut a few large leaves tear them up a little and throw it on the floor. They roll around for 10mins. I did not know we could eat it though... I really didn't and I never really wondered why it come in herb packs but now that I've watched this It all makes sense.
    And that my friend might be a reason I should tone down the smoking of the human version of catnip :)

Then I'd take it home and dry it. I my gosh did my cat go nuts while I had it hanging all over my apartment to dry too haha. Anyway now that I moved to far away to volunteer there I'm wanting to grow my own. It seriously does calm my cat down and I am also interested in trying some myself...if Igmu' will share hahaha

    • @Metqa
      @Metqa 6 лет назад +12

      It does spread, but not as agressively as mint, but it is in the mint family. I found my cats could actually kill a healthy foot tall bush my chewing and rolling. You could control it by not letting it go to seed and I found it's not as aggressive in it's roots as other mints. But if you let it go to seed, you'll have new ones everywhere. I made that mistake with Shiso, Now my whole backyard is Shiso. And a mint got out of a pot in the front garden and rooted across 2 feet in the winter in Georgia.

    Catnip is an interesting plant. I heard it is in the mint family. I have an interesting question and want to know if it is possible or if anyone has attempted it. Cross pollenating catnip into basil plants or vice versa basil into catnip? We all know catnip and many basil varieties are favorite plants of numerous types of bees. Just wondered if it is possible to do something like that and create a Franken Plant like the African Blue Basil. A cross between catnip and African Blue basil would be an incredible plant. Possibly.

    How has she been? I have a year old girl, she was born to ferril parents, several generations of wild cats.... The parents and grandparents, greatgrandparents... All wild, all barn cats. The owner of the farm, he has 26 wild cats, and he recently got assistance to fix the parents, after this litter, they were caught to be fixed. I'm not sure why he waited, letting this pair mate, but, I asked for a kitty and he let me take mine, she was 9 weeks, I brought her to the vet, shots... Spay etc.... But she's quite WILD!! she is not like your common regular house cat..
    She's incredibly beautiful and wild! She only loves me, she is incredibly protective... To the degree she will attack, mostly those she doesn't recognize. KY family and close friends that she's been around since I brought her home, she's not best buds with them.... But she won't steal attack, however those she doesn't know, well... Let's just say, my dog should be embarrassed 😂 I am curious if your kitty is fully domesticated or a bit wild still?
